Hey NL, if you're curious about how any specific move would play out, the little Computer icon next to the share-left-bracket in the bottom right of the analysis will let you replay the game from any point against a computer. You can see what would have happened if you did something slightly different, or what the computer is trying to get at with best/worst move notes.

The blunder in the last game was that he could have threatened your rook (/mate) and your knight with the same move (queen d5), which would have meant giving up one of them. Also, if you want to look at the analysis of why the move was bad (even if they didn't play the best follow up) you can look at the line that the site puts in the "blunder" red banner.

also that blunder was bigger than yoy thought, NL. if you look at the bar to the left of the board your advantage went from "ahead by an equivalent of 4 pawns" to "just barely behind", according to the computer. sure it's still an even game but going from "basically winning" to "even" is a painful transition if they'd seen the opportunity.

34:46 This is a blunder because Queen can go d5 and "fork" (don't know if that's the correct term, can a Queen fork? lol) Knight and Rook, right? Losing a knight doesn't seem that bad, allthough it's unnecessary of course.
@QWERTY-kg5ho3 жыл бұрын
I mean technically it's also threatening checkmate and losing the knight is bad because that's the only advantage for black. After loosing it the position is equal. Wich is what the computer indicated.

35:02 Qf6 is a blunder because of the opponent's best move after that, Qd5, which puts presure on d8 and attacks the knight. Sometimes it's better to see what opponent's best move after your blunder is rather than your best move instead of your blunder.

Alright so here my write up on the opening of the second game of the video after doing some research. The second opening was The Kings Pawn opening Kings Knight variation, Elephant gambit but for the sake of brevity lets just call it the elephant gambit. You can see the opening by going to 12:32 on the vid. The elephant gambit is an aggressive response by black to white opening pawn e4 then for whites second move Knight f3. The goal of the Elephant gambit is to prod White into making a mistake and punishing it in order to take control of the center. Because it assumes white has to play sub-optimally the elephant gambit is rarely used at higher levels. This is what happened to NL what he should have done is take the d5 pawn with his e4 pawn or take blacks e5 pawn with the knight (although this is less favored). If NL had taken the d5 pawn the only 2 viable responses Black would have are bishop to d6 supporting the e5 pawn or pawn to e4 attacking the knight. Other moves like queen takes d5 just leave black in untenable situations that white can use to make threats while developing pieces and slowly take control of the center. Even when black plays the 2 viable responses its easy for white to punish if Black moves the dark square bishop to d6 White can just move pawn d4 threatening blacks remaining central pawn heavily while also opening up more room to develope its own peices. The only way for balck to sae its last cetral pawn is to move it forward but all that does is make white move knight e5 and now white has a protected knight firmly in blacks territory. Allowing for some decent attacks and pretty much guaranteeing white great value. Lets go back to say black moves pawn e4 as its 4th move of the game. Whites best response is queen e2 pinning the black pawn so it can't take the knight with the benefit of developing the queen. After that white can basically respond to any move by black to protect the pawn by either developing the the queen side knight further solidifying center control or by moving the kingside knight to d4 once again projecting force into the center and preparing for an attack on Blacks queen side. In short Black basically used a semi-common trick opening often used in faster chess formats to bait NL into a bad move which black then used as an opening to get ahead on development. For NL to have countered Blacks opening he would have needed to more aggressively contest the center by taking blacks pawns.

@Waghabond3 жыл бұрын
@@gerardgag its just such a tedious gambit though, there are faster and arguably stronger options for white that achieve similar gameplay, eg. Some variations of the king's gambit.
@gerardgag3 жыл бұрын
@@Waghabond not really though The king's gambit has been proven to give a considerable advantage to black with correct play or to even be downright losing, so much so that the Vienna gambit Is considered an improved version of the normal king's gambit, the Evans is genuinely a sound opening (even used by chess neural networks like leela chess) that with perfect play from black leads to an equal game with a slightly more comfortable position for black but it also becomes extremely hard to defend for black because of the central control white gets after getting d4 in and it's a nightmare to defend against if white gets to play Ba3 before black castles

if anyone is wondering why that last move was a blunder, it's because it allows white to play Qd5, which forks the knight and the rook in the corner (which would also be checkmate due to NL's king being trapped on the back rank by the wall of pawns in front of it). At that point he'd have to move the rook and give up the knight, putting the game back to an equal position.
