I recently returned home from an early morning "shoot", one of many. My wife made the comment that I must really love photography to get out of bed at such insane hours "Just to take photos". After a little contemplation, I realized that love had nothing to do with it (anymore at least). I honestly believe that photography is my drug of choice. I am truly addicted to it !!! BTW, nice photos Gavin.

I know exactly what you mean. You camp out on a composition too long and don't realize that the scene behind you is much better and then you chase that light. Great video, Gavin. Gotta get out there before that blue hour burn. Recently was out in Death Valley, and had woke at 2am to hope for some milky way rising time-lapse into sunrise. With two cameras doing time-lapse sequences over the mud cracks, around 5am or so a couple groups and their instructors parked and made their way out to the cracks, but they had missed the early burn. By the time they made it out to the cracks the clouds had shifted and ruined sunrise. Am sure they got some decent long exposures or black and whites. Maybe even some intimate shots. Spoke with some of the people and they were just happy to have finally seen the cracks. Was happy for them, an didn't bother telling them they had missed some yummy color. But I did feel bad they had missed it. Wanted to tell them, wake a bit earlier, and get there! The moral of the story, had they got out earlier at twilight, they would have been there from blue hour to golden hour, and increased the chance to get the shot. Good video man. :D And love that final image.

I used to love the silence but tinnitus rears it’s ugly head when I’m in the wilderness. Too much clubbing in my younger years so the ENT specialist said, but it doesn’t stop me getting out there as it feeds the soul. Let’s hope I can still get to Vancouver Island this summer. My daughter’s University trip to the Canadian Rockies and Vancouver looks like it’s about to be cancelled as she’s going in 2 weeks. 2 weeks is a long time with all that’s going on in the world right now.

Nice one Gavin. So, if you like red and green landscapes, spectacular light and no con-trails, you should consider northern Western Australia. The Kimberley is absolutely beautiful and the Bungle Bungles are unique. You need to come at the right time of year though because of the weather and in summer it’s 40 deg + and clear blue skies, which can provide a good contrast sometimes with the red and green. Just a thought if you’re at a loose end.

fototripper - The South is very different, much greener and more rural, farm landscapes, etc. From the mid-west to the top-end is much more bush, desert, rocks, etc. The light is wicked as well. Let me know if you ever plan getting over here again & we’ll see what we can do to help out 👍
