It looks stupid to us but within the story it at least makes sense. She is supposed to be one of the strongest gen jutsu users in Konoha. On the other hand Itachi is a gen jutsu god whose powers were mostly kept secret. In a way it's like Mike Tyson in his prime trying to fight a 50m mech.
