*FOR FURTHER EXPLANATIONS AND FUN FACTS WITHOUT SPOILERS, PLEASE READ HERE!* So yeah. *THE PICNIC WAS A LIE! THE PICNIC WAS A LIE! I REPEAT, THE PICNIC WAS A LIE!* As a manga reader, the first time I saw Kaikai Kitan, I thought to myself, "Man, they are really trying to trick all of us to thinking that Junpei will join us huh? Just showing the 'what ifs' every single time even though he hasn't even been introduced yet?" From Junpei's death and the subsequent "I will kill you!" scene (which was beautifully done), Itadori + Nanamin vs Mahito Part 1 and of course, Sukuna showing who is the real villain out of the two. So yeah, without further ado, let's get into the notes! *1. What if?* Chapter 27 contained the moment when Mahito appeared on the staircase to the 'I will kill you!" scene, and was titled "What If?", alongside the shot of Junpei alongside Fushiguro, Itadori and Nobara wearing the Jujutsu Tech uniform. I was really glad that they showed that scene in the anime. Makes the emotional impact of Junpei's death all the greater. May he rest in peace. The way they animated it was great as well, his head ballooning up before attacking Itadori and soon dying. It also starts in his left eye, similar to how he killed his first victim in the theatre, creating a ironic comparison between his first kill in front of Junpei with how he ultimately killed him. The translations didn't really explain it well, but Junpei died due to the shock of the violent transformation. I really empathise with Junpei, both how he sees this world and how he dealt with it was not the best, but reasonable because of what the world has done to him. Yet, he was a victim to the manipulation of Mahito the whole time and his death signifies the start of the Mahito vs Itadori conflict as well as Mahito's role as a villain. From an indifference to those he doesn't know, to not wanting to taint his soul, to anger at the world for having people that are able to curse his mother with such emotions, to regrets in his final moments. Yes, he was basically used as a plot device to create character development for Itadori, but the impact of his death as a turning point in Itadori's life, the very first time where he wished to kill someone, is still felt even in the recent arcs of the manga. I will say this again, but may he rest in peace. *2. Junpei's shikigami* Speaking of Junpei, his jellyfish Shikigami, though brief, was quite symbolic. The fact that it is an aquatic animal is a link to the line from his mom that "There are other aquariums out there." and lo and behold, his shikigami is an aquatic animal. It is more than likely that Junpei is represented by the angelfish from the train at the very start of the opening. You can even see the jellyfish behind Junpei in the opening. Second his poison not affecting Itadori. Why? Because Sukuna as well as being the king of curses, is also a king of poison. So yeah, poison won't work on Itadori, the vessel of Sukuna. *3. I will kill you! + Mahito vs Itadori* This scene was animated SO WELL, intensifying the manga panel to a dramatic and breathtaking shot. This whole arc was built up for this significant turning point within Itadori, the first time where he wished to kill someone, the thing that cemented Mahito's role as the villain against Itadori's hero, and this turning point signifies a chain event that happens that leads up to what happens in later arcs, most prominently in the current Shibuya arc. I have shown why Nanamin is a bad match up to Mahito, but Itadori really is a perfect match up. Able to damage his soul directly, can't die from Idle Transfigeration thanks to Sukuna and he can do some pretty significant damage. An improvement that could be made is definitely him learning Reversed Techniques in order to heal himself, but that in of itself is something pretty rare with only a select few being able to do so. *4. Teaching capabilities* This is not just Nanamin, but also Gojo just from the small line that he delivered this week. It really is a pity that Nanamin isn't a teacher, because alongside how he represents 'a normal person', he also represents qualities like identifying potential (used on Itadori and Mahito) as well as teaching, intentionally in Itadori about pacts, and not intentionally for Mahito in teaching him that as long as his soul is OK, he can do anything. He was able to correctly identify that Mahito is a child based on his actions and possible goals, he was able to figure out that Itadori was a good match up to Mahito from a bit of blood and he is able to construct attack plans on the spot and even assess abilities to the point that he can practically guess that Itadori can't be killed by Idle Transfiguration even if he didn't know that the reason behind it was Sukuna. Gojo also demonstrates that he is a good teacher as well, though for now, it's more in combat techniques. The titbit of fighting the users and not the shikigami themselves is more likely something he accumulated through battle and can be seen if you look back at the Sukuna vs Megumi fight. Sukuna was suprised that even though he is a shikigami user, he can still do hand to hand combat. It is more than likely that Gojo wanted to target this weakness amongst shikigami users and was the reason why Megumi knows hand to hand combat. After all, Gojo and Megumi have known each other before the story started with him being the one on the phone telling Megumi to collect the finger in the first place in episode 1. (although how long I will not say) *5. INOOOOOO* I normally put this section as no.1, but since it is just a brief show and the craziness of this episode, he is pushed down to no. 5. I'm sorry, Ino. Takuma Ino makes his appearance! His abilities are very very interesting and he is a Grade 2 sorcerer from Jujutsu Tech. He actually shows up in the prequel and is trying to become a Grade 1 sorcerer, something that can only be done if a grade 1 or above sorcerer recommends you, hence his wish for Nanamin to recommend him. Note that the people who teach you cannot recommend you, so Gojo can't recommend Itadori, Megumi or Nobara to become a Grade 1 sorcerer. As to his voice actor, sources say that he is voiced by Yu Hayashi, known for Kuroko no Basuke's Ogiwara and most recently, The Ultimate Senpai Tanaka Ryunosuke from Haikyuu. You can kind of hear Tanaka when Ino yells in the end. -- Next episode will be a big one. Part 2 of Mahito vs Nanamin + Itadori, the end of this arc and going to the next arc and a personal note, my favourite line from Jujutsu Kaisen will be uttered next episode. (Manga readers will know which line it is) But until next week, as Steady will say it, keep up the positive Juju!
