I'm glad to see you braved through that nightmare kit ! It's a shame someone else has not put one out to replace it in 1/32 scale. I hope your next build is easier on your nerves !

The decals certainly bring he model to life and I agree about not using a panel line wash as those panel lines do look a tad "agricultural" When I spray the Xtreme metal I try and use the black base coat as a sort of pre-shading to get a depth to the metal finish. I have not tried using the dark aluminium but I will next time as it looks really good. I have found the metal finish to be quite fragile and it wears off in time with handling the model so a clear coat is a must.

Beautiful NMF, Sean! So suble and tasteful. variations. When you applied the dark aluminium i could hardly see that. but from the distance it gives the right amount of reality to it. I was kind of shocked to see you spaying the NMF with a clear coat. Most modellers dont do that „it ruins the finish“. For you it works miraculously. Looks really good! And explains why you dared ro grab the model in the begining with bare hands. Turns out all the work you have put if does count and shine (pun intended) at the end.

Depends on the clear coat. If you use an acrylic based clear it doesn't affect the lacquer paint

Always a great piece sir. I once used AK polishing aluminum on a P51. After several “re-dues” I finally got it right. However I like to watch other people do the bare metal finish as it was a real pain for me.

@@thoward816 polished aluminum or the wax based stuff? I wouldn’t recommend using the waxed based stuff on an entire plane. I find The spray on polished aluminum is hard to work with as its not very opaque and it’s more fragile than regular aluminum
@thoward81614 күн бұрын
@ it was the polished aluminum type. My base gloss black coat sprayed and dried really well, I mean like 24 hours. I polished the black gloss until with a dry cotton ball until I got a almost glass like finish. Then lightly sprayed the AK Polishing Aluminum. Let that dry really well too. Then I polished again with cotton ball.

Outstanding, Sean. Cartograf and Microscale decals for my five current,1/32 Tamiya F-4 builds. Three will have the full markings and stencil data for a F-4J and two F-4EJs. One built to represent EJ 37-8312 in the 50th paint livery using the DXM decal set made by Cartograf. Silicone brushes can work well for decal placement.

Why different metals around the rear section? That's 'cause it gets damn HOT! I think it was the J79 fitted to this jet, the Phantom had two of them. They generate a LOT of heat which aluminium (yes, that's how you spell it my American friends!) can't take, starts to lose it's integrity somewhere above 450˚Celsius (the proper measure of temperature!!). You don't want your rear-end deforming due to excessive heat. I believe steel would have been used in this area, Spacex also use it as the heating process anneals the metal actually making the steel stronger over time and it's fairly cheap, unlike titanium, lighter but harder to work. Nice paint job by the way, I will be doing something similar on my kit.

Does the clear coat not affect the chrome in a negative way ? I love AK Metal.
@seanerk5kt914 күн бұрын
@@Francois997.2 yes it dulls it a little but I find the trade off of having a durable finish worth it
