A very good tutorial just a couple of points to mention. I wasn't quite sure why you tightened the exhaust cam sprocket with the belt off. There is also free movement on the key way on the exhaust cam and would have thought TDC on no 1 piston cams in position and locked, belt fitted and tensioned and then tighten both cam sprockets. Important that the exhaust sprocket is tightened with full tension on the drive side of the belt at perfect TDC No 1 cyl. A minor but important to know Fiat use their own multi spline tools and not Torx. You're ok with using torx bits most of the time but on occasion they can slip and damage the socket .
@ItaliaAutos9 ай бұрын
Hi thanks for the comment, 99% of the time you can get away without undoing the exhaust pulley but sometimes like one I did today the belt was top tight to get on. Reason I don't like undoing it is because the bolt holes love to strip their threads on the camlock if the cam bolt is to tight.

It is the correct way to work. Unique notes: 1) Immediately remove the bulkhead of the wheel mudguard (it works better). 2) In old cars it is advisable to replace the phase sensor ... if it works badly you should redo all the work to replace it. Good job.

Hey. We canged the timing belt on my alfa romeo 155 supersprint and if you could answer some questions i have i would be more than thankful. First: So we got the timing marks to line up with the new belt, but after we rotated the engine a few times we couldnt get them to line up anymore, is this going to be a problem? Second: As we tightened the valve cover back up it cracked from the backside of the engine. We bought a more modern, plastic valvecover to replace it, and some of the piping that were a direct fit on the old one needs to be modified. How should we do that and what pipes go to which ports?

The Twin Spark 2 Liter was the most reliable Alfa 2 liter ever, on the 164 and 75 it made both cars very attractive, not only by the price. BUT THE GERMAN CAR LOBBY PROPAGANDA AGAINST ITALIAN MANUFACTURERS GOES ON. IF YOU CHECK THE BODIES OF THE MERCEDES E-CLASS OF THE MID 90'S, I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY MERCEDES WITH SO MANY RUST PROBLEMS, EVEN THE 190 WAS NOT AS WORSE. OH OF COURSE NO HOLES, BUT FOR A CAR THAT COSTED 30-50% MORE AS COMPARABLE CARS LIKE LUXUS ETC THIS CAN NOT HAPPEN, BUT IF DEUTSCHE BANK OR DEUTSCHE AUTOS, THEY DON'T DESERVE NO MORE THE BLIND TRUST THEY HAD ONCE, THOSE TIMES ARE LONG GONE. COMPARED THE ITALIANS LOST ENTIRELY THEY RUST PROBLEMS SINCE 2 DECADES AND IF MAKING A CAR COMING JUST CLOSER TO THE SALES PRICE OF A BMW OR MERCEDES, THEY LOOK NOT BAD, BUT IF EVERYBODY WOULD BUY A CAR JUST FOR RELIABILITY, everybody must buy a Lexus in this class, the Japanese long ago reached an higher standard than any European manufacturer. When you put the new timing belt on, what position should the intake cam gear be at, as it can rotate (advance/retard) several teeth worth of rotation (even with the camshaft itself locked) due to the slotted holes where it attaches to the variator. E.g. Do you slide it all the way forward, or all the way back, or keep it in the middle of its range of motion (before you tighten the 4x bolts)?

Many TS/JTS 2.0 cambelt change guides I´ve seen tell to loosen the exhaust cam pulley too before pre-tensioning the new belt. So that´s not necessary?
@ItaliaAutos5 жыл бұрын
Seppo Eerola sometimes you get a very tight belt and loosening the pulley will help you get the belt on. 99%of the time you don’t need to do it.
@PeDe-uj9er9 ай бұрын
You are right and there is a good reason for this important step. The exhaust cam pulley is manufactured with enough play to equalise and spread belt tension between the cam sprockets before the sprockets are tightened. Unless it is loosened when tensioning there may be a false timing situation present due to belt over-tension existing on one side of the exhaust pulley which will right itself and change the timing profile slightly once the cam locks are out. What's happened here is the previous belt change cam sprocket positions are being used and they seem correct when checked

@@johanneswarn5488 why would you cut it, doesn't that remove the AC?
@johanneswarn54883 жыл бұрын
@@Meox_YT no the AC is driven by the serpentine belt. The balance belt only handles the balance shafts.

@@johanneswarn5488 Sorry if I'm asking to many questions, what is a balance shaft? I am currently doing the head gasket on an 2.0TS 16v and I'm wondering if the balance belt needs to be in a certain timing like the timing belt or does it not matter.

Hey Neil, does this look normal to you? kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3_HnnuugJV4h5Y Anyone else familiar with cambelts can also chime in. It's a new Dayco belt from a kit and now I'm wondering if I should get another belt just in case.

I think I found the cause. The inlet pulley is not snug to the variator. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnS5h59rbdCErc0

I need your help about my Alfa Romeo 166. My - spectacular - 2.5 Busso keep idle to about 650rpm (steady, but too low). Accordingly, entire car tremble during engine idle. Throttle body seems ok (I tried to replace it), plenum and air pipe doesn't get external air, flow meter sensor is ok. In general the engine is great, except for idle too low during engine idle. About you, could be due to one (or some) camshafts pulley with a tooth not in correct position?
