Keeping this car on the road for another 10 years is almost certainly more environmentally friendly than scrapping it and buying a new car. Nice job!

@@theheathster2 Absolutely! My own GT is over sixteen years old now and apart from a few bodywork issues is still going strong at 125 k.
@jncg2311Ай бұрын
Not just almost certainly but definitely certainly. While I was doing a load of CO2 equivalent calculations a while back I did the analysis comparing keeping my 147 on the road vs buying a new electric car. Even allowing for the fact that in Scotland my typical grid supplied electricity has a much lower carbon intensity than the average UK resident it didn't look to good for the new car option. What transpired was that the 147 burning diesel would produce less CO2 than the equivalent made by the purchase and operation of a new electric car right up the point the electric car was reaching the average age of vehicles in the UK. In other words, probability was it would be scrapped before it offered any CO2 emissions advantage. Different story if I drove 20k miles per year or compared it to a second hand electric and discounted the manufacturing emissions.

My uncle taught me how to spray using devilbis sprayers. Every time we finished we run some thinners through. When we started a new job, we did a little test spray to see the pattern and density of paint. If one of the fan jets we'd do a quick change, then stick the dirty nozzle into an ultrasound bath with some thinners and carry on. You done a brilliant job. It's probably better than the original paint and thicker, too 😊

Nice job - great to see cars like this being kept on the road. My dad bought one of these brand new in 2000 and it was a fantastic car. I got to drive it a couple times and I always thought it handled very well. Couple tips - when doing small paint jobs like this, use a smaller spray gun. Also, before you polish the car, clay bar it or at the very least wipe it down with panel wipe.

We had a "Y" plate 156 2 litre a few years ago which I really enjoyed. It got us through flash floods while on holiday in Northumberland, took three adults and a dog for a week's holiday in the Scottish Isles and took four adults for a holiday in Nice, covering almost 2,000 miles in the process. Unfortunately, corrosion got into the floor pans so she was replaced with a Giulietta Multiair. I still miss the 156 especially as it had the Momo interior.
