Probably not economically viable with all the welding and paintwork (plus the likely other yet to be discovered issues), but always happy to see these saved rather than dismantled.

Mine's the same age (but not a spider) and i had over £700 worth of welding done to it earlier this year. My head said no, but my heart said yes. The 2.0 TS are great to drive and i love mine...sometimes i love it more than my GT Busso which is why i saved it. Glad the owner of this one gave the thumbs up to save it. Keep them going and keep these videos coming

I recently purchased a gtv ,it was only when I got it home and stripped the cill covers off and arch liners I saw the corrosion, I have since repaired the corrosion, changed the cam belt along with other parts replaced I am on my way to a working car , it’s not a cheap project but eventually I will see the benefits, and the same will apply here for this spyder .

Save. Engine sounds sweet and not rust certainly isn’t that bad and the rest of the shell looks sound/solid enough to be worth saving. Hopefully the owner has the budget.

It never ceases to amaze me, how the offside is almost always worse than the near side, despite the amount of puddles kerbside, in the UK. For someone with your skills it’s a few days work I can’t wait to see in follow up videos!

Save the rusty Alfas! Im in the States and in the 'rust belt' but i never realized how UK cars have rust issues. I just thought cars from the north in the US were prone to rust. Anyways enjoying your videos on the Alfa Romeo's!

By the time you welded it up. Added new paint. Replaced the roof it will be worth half the repair costs and still be rotting all the time. U can cut visible tin worm out but it will be ingrained underneath the whole car now like a ticking time bomb

Stylish Italian convertible. Convertibles age well in terms of looks. When I've spent money renovating older sports cars in the past (to keep), one has to take into account the cost of a newer replacement. I appreciate that dealers are capped by the 2nd hand market price and so have to take into account whether the repairs are viable.

With stuff like this it seems the difficulty is deciding just how far to go. If it were a car made in the 60s or 70s at 30 years old you'd probably be looking at chopping out the whole outer sill, inner sill and welding in complete new panels. More modern cars seem to have enough corrosion protection that such drastic surgery isn't needed quite as often. Would be interested to see how far you and the owner have decided to go and how it progresses.

Hello, greetings, nice unit, I wanted to ask if it could be... I have a spider 916 1.8ts from 1998, I have a question, every time I go to refuel, when I open the lid a lot of pressure comes out, I don't know if it is normal, but it's too much. I already bought the car like this. In other cars the pressure is little, but in this one it is too much. It is normal? I have been researching and it seems that there is a vapor separator above the tank, which has a diaphragm that is damaged. Thank you.

Those cars, if maintained well, will only increase in value. Now it's high time to do the welding, the expensive paintwork can then be done later if the money is an issue at the moment.
@liveroom4235
@liveroom4235 7 ай бұрын
That's fairly decent for a car of that age but it depends on whether you could buy a better one for similar money (or something equivalent but newer) to the repair cost and how much the owner wants to keep it on the road.

Neil, howmuch would it cost to change the timingbelt and waterpump and steeringrack for a 156 1.8 from 2004 aprox? I can deliver the parts and drive it from the Netherlands to your shop so you have a left hand drive car once 😅
@artsmithdrums
@artsmithdrums 7 ай бұрын
A cold hearted, even rational, view is that it would be uneconomic to repair relative to the likely value of the car. Really depends on how much the owner loves it and wants it fixed up.

paintwork: No need for a respray there at all. Just proper, high quality buffing and polish. Undertray left hand side is not bad at all but holy mother on the right hand side. What have they done with it, left it in a puddle with salt water? Jesh. If you can find a better right hand side floorpan and side sill then sure, but no repair job and amount of welding can save that.
