it took me longer to jack up the car than you took to do the entire job :) When I did the n/s. one of the tripod bearings was knackered, broken apart and cup damaged. The boot was fine! Didn't growl but rattled over bumps. A complete new shaft was cheaper than cup + tripod + boot. Plus upper and lower wishbones needed doing as well. About 7hrs... That was much easier than the driver's side I've just done 2 years later. I spent that long trying to separate the top wishbone balljoint from the upright. Separators, hammers, heat, nothing worked. In the end I cut through the wishbone with an angle grinder so I could use extreme heat and violence in the shed which worked. Again both wishbones needed doing (bushes knackered), and the shaft had accumulated slop in both cv's and the intermediate bearing. so replaced. I also discovered the outer boot was split and spattering grease all over the inside of the wheel. Made even worse by foolishly trying to remove the ABS sensor, which of course snapped (as did its the mounting bolt). All fixed now but about 20hrs, much in the gutter :) and a perfect example of why some things are best left to experts.

Looks so easy when you do it, it took me half of a day :) Perhaps it's better to take the old grease out from the cup as there might be grime and dust inside before putting the new one? Nice video, will be useful for sure for many people!

The last three videos that I've clicked the thumbs up icon took their like totals to 458, 456 and 612. On a dedicated Italian car channel, this is very freaky..... 😮

Did this job on my 147 GTA and it wasn't actually too hard at all, just incredibly messy. Didn't film any of it though as we were too busy trying to work out what to do haha

Gaiter fella ! A gator is a snappy thing with big teeth. Last time a former one needed replacement on my jalopy, a two piece item was used, fused together with some kind of lethal chemical bonding stuff that you don't want to get on your hands. It's still fine, after donkeys years.

@@ItaliaAutos I apologise. The relative lack of a life has turned me into something of a pedantic git. Re gaiters in general though, I do miss the absence of them in many cases today. My car's coilovers have them but cheaper ones are often as bare and exposed as my motorbike stanchions. Enjoying your excellent videos, as usual.

My driveshaft bearings (those three) went kaput couple of months ago, but I decided to change complete driveshaft, price for new bearings was 70 euros and brand new driveshaft with boot's was about 95-100 euros

I've got a gt I'm trying to replace the drive shaft on the near side! How do I remove the inner joint from the box ? Thanks

Hi Neil, I bought a complete drive shaft from SKF, is it possible to install it like this or does it not fit through the shock absorber fork joint? I didn't want to dismantle the new entire drive shaft. Do I have to pay attention to anything else when I remove the cup from the gearbox? Or just pull it tight?

Had this done 3 times in the last month on our 147. First time frustrating but when a CV spider's time is up it's up. Second time a split in the replacement boot after only a few weeks. Very annoying. 3rd time the replacement spider has grenade'd itself. Not a happy Hector. It's super random for this video to come up only days after.

A worn or damaged cup will trash a new spider fast.

Are there any major differences when doing this on a petrol version? This video is right on time as I need to replace both my inner boots!
@ilhuikar3 жыл бұрын
I did this on my 147 2.0 a few years ago. I remember the inner joint was bolted on, so the whole shaft came out as a unit. Then it was an easy job doing the boots on the workbench.
@ItaliaAutos3 жыл бұрын
Different types of driveshaft sorry.
@Strike863 жыл бұрын
Yeah the inner joint isn't just held into a cup, it has some hex bolts going through the gearbox with nuts on the back which are a royal pain in the bollocks to get a spanner on. Also the inner joint is a very different design (more complex) but the process is pretty much the same.

Hi Neil, I think my driveshaft has some play. I notice when changing loads that it jerks a bit, but not uphill. Do you think the tripod joints are worn out? Or is there another known issue with this on the 147 JTD Q2?

@@ItaliaAutos it’s been suggested that the cups need greasing, which might help for a while . Would i5 be better to replace them altogether then?

One question please: it’s similar to alfa romeo cars. Do grande punto have reliable automatic transmission? Cuz I’m disable on one leg, and I can’t drive manual transmission car. PLEASE if you have time, write me a answer. Greetings from Macedonia 🇲🇰

I think you should treat yourself to some nice gloves. Those ones last about 2 seconds don't they. Was that kit a Alfa Romeo OEM one? The bag looked like it was.
