As Italian myself as well I realize that not everything HAS to be 100% accurate especially when talking about names (It is VERY funny to hear F1 commentators talking about Daniel Ricciardo) or surnames (My surname is Cristofaro and they pronounced it in the same way they do in Northern Italy, especially in Milan and Venice which I find very funny) What I cared about was if the culture of Rinascita was faithful to the inspiration unlike what another company did with their representation of Germany, Japan, ME and the SEA/LA/CA and Kuro Games has heavily used Italian, alongside German, culture in PGR and they were in the expectations, even the usage of the "Mafia" is just a coat of paint, the struggle is political and very reminiscent of the background between the Montecchi e Capuleti That the case of Roccia's voice lines, while badly pronounced, get a pass from me because they fit her role as an improv artists it helps the actor to take a breather between prompts being words that are of common usage especially in Improv where more often than not the sketches involve sudden twits or random characters approaching so those lines are used very often The F in Fenrico is there is basically a hint of the true nature of the situation in Ragunna since he is the Resonator of the being that we can see from the Bank, IYKYK But the real fun are the three Fratelli Brothers (Fratellino, Fratello and Fratellone) I had a real laughing attack when I read that Small nitpick: localization teams are not the ones telling the voice actors how to pronounce things but Voice Actor Director, and more often than not is because they are all the time on a crunch so they do a couple of takes and move on But I am glad that I was not the only one of thinking about a nice slice of Provola during the bossfghit

It's confirmed that the Wuwa 2.0 is flopping then, they can't even do the whole region right. The incompetence aside, don't blame Kuro, blame the VA studio. This game is a live service game that have synchronized update in four different language voice, and there is no absolute background of culture in any of them. If you notice it, it's almost as if the mispronunciation is by design, because it is. The same with anything related to Jinzhou, and the pronunciation of Huang Long. This is not done because of laziness, but for consistency amongst many VAs and the continuity of voice direction even until the future region and culture. Imagine you go to Russia-themed culture region and when an NPC callsback the region of Rinascita, they performed a perfect pronunciation. The monotonous constant of all accent-filled words are intended to ease all sort of VAs because words like Rinascita or character name like Roccia will need a lot of takes and practiced attempts, and now imagine maintaining the consistency of the pronunciation of other 30 different VAs from different background and their supposed Accents. Time will be consumed, and it can be fatal in term of management, especially since a VA studio doesn't only work for a single company or game. The studio that Wuwa used for example, have contract with Reverse 1999, and now the newly signed contract of Genshin Impact. In gacha game where they need a stream of update every 6 weeks, maintaining accented pronunciation for a commonly used and important words is not worth it.

Saying that they got the pronunciations wrong is only natural. I clearly stated in the disclaimer that I wasn't expecting the voice actors to give up on their own language to pronounce the words with the right accent, but saying Divìno instead of Dìvino is a completely different thing (especially since in English the word sounds just the same, so it makes no sense to change the stress). Great vid! Was nice to see an actual Italian talk about the different Italian words with proper pronunciation and give some context around these words. Pepe one made be laugh. XD Hope them butchering your language wont distract too badly from enjoying the game as I found 2.0 absolutely phenomenal. As to why they potentially intentionally mispronounced some words my guess would be cuz they went for more of a stereotypical Englishified Italian accent as it sounds better in middle of an English sentence. Like for example all their pronunciations sound like they fit in an English sentence while majority of your correct pronunciations sound wrong as if they were mispronounced cuz of the huge pronunciation differences in these 2 languages, so hearing an English accent and then all of a sudden properly pronounced Italian word and then English again would sound super out of place. But if all characters talked the English parts with an Italian accent like Zani then those properly pronounced words would fit right into the sentence, that's also why they felt natural coming from Zani. Not saying that's good or excuses it tho, as we would probably get used to it fairly quickly, while giving proper representation. I suggest writing this in their surveys as kuro is very responsive to feedback and improved voce over dramatically already since release with player feedback. I will mention it for sure. As someone that loves both genshin and wuwa and has been enjoying your genshin content for a while, I would love to see some occasional wuwa content on the channel too =D

Yes, it sounds like they made words fit with English pronunciation, which probably for an English speaker would make complete sense, but then again why use Italian if you're not going to really use Italian? By the way, Zani is Greek, Andreas is the Italian one. But I have to say, "divino" for example, makes more sense as we say it in Italian, because the way they said it, makes it so hard to pronounce both in Italian and in English.... I can try sending them a feedback, but I don't think they would call the voice actors back to record those lines all over again to fix the pronunciation. If they cared about it, they wouldn't have made those mistakes in the first place... When 2.1 comes out, I'll probably make another video, even though this one isn't going to perform at all, as you can see from the views. @@ShadowXImpact /ˈpæstə/ is how I usually hear them say it. It just sounds so wrong. That /æ/ sound is really distinct to Americans and using it in the wrong place (especially approximating words from other languages that don’t have that sound) is pretty painful to hear. We make fun of British people for pronouncing “taco” with that sound, too. Not that we get it 100% correct either, it just sounds less… jarring. I might have to rewatch the video to confirm this, but I think part of what’s going on with WuWa is mixture of native English speakers’ usual difficulty with other languages, partially because of our broken spelling system, and the American tendency to treat foreign languages as if they are Spanish. Putting the stress on the penultimate syllable and really emphasizing the ‘i’ sound are what give me that impression. Even though most Americans don’t speak another language, because of a large Hispanic population and proximity with Mexico we do hear and see it a lot. Incorporating seemingly random Americanized Spanish into the middle of sentences is common, too. In Genshin Itto does it in the English dub a lot. Americans tend to approach other languages as if they are Spanish partially because of familiarity, but also because the sounds of Spanish SEEM more universal, especially things like the rolled R, the 5 vowels, more consistent spelling, and the stress pattern.

And maybe they inteltionally made those pronunciations like that to indicate that there's still a fine line between real life and fantasy since if they really made it 100% based in real life, if they butchered some of the words, it might cause some issues with other people (just like what happened to Natlan characters of Genshin).
@ShadowXImpact10 сағат бұрын
@@equinox2909 if that were the case, I would have expected English words to be butchered as well... I'm of the idea that, if you're going to use foreign words, it's completely fine not to switch accent, but the right pronunciation should be a must, or it will sound like they're mocking the people who speak that language. Even in my genshin videos, I always research the right pronunciation of words whenever I had to say something that's not English or any other language I know, it's the bare minimum of respect we should all have toward other cultures

Zani proposed us Pizza Tropicale, so definitely she's not Italian :D But with all seriousness, this isn't Italy. Buildings like the ones from Rinascita can be seen all over Europe, from Poland to Spain. Also, remember the very beginning - Strangers from different places founded Rinascita, that's why you have Italian/Greek accent's, Scottish/Ireland, GB, etc. And since they all live together for who know how long exactly, languages mixed a little so it's not perfect Italian, perfect Scottish, but something in between. Kuro is cooking with the lore pretty hard but you don't need to go deep to understand basics. If you want to, you can go to Gallery > Archives > Rinascita for some more information, or just speak with people around the map.
@ShadowXImpact20 сағат бұрын
@@Drejkol yes, we could come up with an explanation through the lore, but this is still a game and the localization team decided how the actors has to pronounce those words, and they got 90% of them wrong. If you want to use other people's cultures and languages, you should also put in the effort not to misuse them, at least that's what I think. For an English speaker, it would be completely fine, because they're foreign words and they wouldn't even notice the mistakes, but for a mother tongue, it's pretty annoying to know that, whenever a word is coming up, there's only a slight chance it will be correctly pronounced. I mean, would it be okay for you if they pronounces "frequèncy" or "càthedral"? Would you be able to justify it with the lore, when everything else in other languages is correctly pronounced but the words in your own one?

They say "ìnclusive" or "pèrformance", and it just makes my blood boil
@lSeKToRl7 сағат бұрын
@ No need to be a language fundamentalist. Renecita doesn't exist to teach about a culture or language, it's just a new region in a theme park open world game. "just because it's inspired, it is disrespectful to the cultures they're getting inspiration from. It's like saying "I'm going to use your language because it feels cool, but it sounds bad, so I'll fix it according to my tastes." People do this all the time with, especially with English all the time. Do you pronounce English words perfectly when you are speaking with a friend/neighbor in Italian then have to interject with an English word as one does not exist in Italian? No? Then do you see the moot point you are making. Adding Italian flavor to region doesn't mean it has to be accurate. Wuwa is a work of fiction, it is a game and this is the interpretation of the art as told by their team. Don't you think you are being unreasonably critical here?
@ShadowXImpact7 сағат бұрын
@lSeKToRl no, I don't think I'm unreasonably critical. They decided to use a foreign language, it's not such an absurdly impossible request to at least put the stress where it's supposed to go. I'm sure the voice actors wouldn't have had any problem saying Divìno instead of Dìvino, or Nùvola instead of Nuvòla. I mean, the Japanese voice actors say those words correctly, I don't think they felt tortured because they had to say them correctly. On the other hand, could it be that you're just too okay with this, simply because it doesn't affect you one bit? I mean, it doesn't change a thing for you whether a stress is on the right syllable or not, it's so easy to talk when you don't feel mocked by that same exact justification you used "everybody does it all the time", so I should be okay with it because butchering a language is, apparently, the norm. Also, yes, I use my Italian accent when I'm speaking in Italian, but I pronounce English words correctly. Most Italian people do the same. Those who make mistakes, are those who probably don't even know what the words they're using even mean, and they're using them just to sound cool, which is extremely annoying. Again, no one told Kuro to use Italian words, they decided it on their own, so it would only make sense to respect the language they decided to use. They're not teaching or spreading culture or language, but pronouncing them correctly (again, I'm talking about where the stress goes, not the accent of the actors) takes literally 2 minutes.

Let's be frank: pronouncing "Carneval" instead of "Carnevale" is ok, because the first way is how venetians actually call it. Venetian dialect often just removes the final vocals. Gocce Divino is grammatically incorrect as well, to be correct it should be "gocce di vino" or "gocce divine". Capollo = capo + pollo "Chicken boss" Considered how he behaves, it kinda has sense... Anyways, underrated video. Thank you, really.
@WastedTalent8320 сағат бұрын

@@karst1559 yea, those would also be correct.
@ShadowXImpact9 сағат бұрын
@@karst1559 I think "gocce di divino" was what they actually wanted to say, like they're drops of a divinity, drops of a divine something, maybe it's meant to represent Imperator, something like that. Of course, gocce divine is easier to make sense of, but as long as it can make sense and it's not grammatically incorrect (like commedia improvviso), I wouldn't change the actual name, just the pronunciation. Capo+pollo is kinda funny. I don't think that's what they went for, who knows what they found that sounded similar... Carnevale doesn't really bother me honestly. But I'm happy you liked the video!

It's simple yet they still able to get it wrong😂 thus why we get the funny "It's not kuro if there's no typo" meme So if they can't even do English well- I doubt they can do other languages, the korean dub is horrendous too to the point that the kr fans are mad about it.
