SONNET 134 My heart was the sweet home for love to dwell. You pulled it down just like a ton of bricks. In you I can rebuild no feeling well. To truth your concrete proof no longer sticks. You burst its front door open and did rave. You shattered all its windows of good chance. With me you mopped its floor and dug my grave And on its walls of silence did advance. Soon after smashing you way through my trust You shook all the foundations of my love. Our relationship crumbled into dust. Its rubble is not worth disposing of: Untouched, may it remain here as a token Of all hearts that your crushes have just broken. (Author: Eden Santos Oliveira. Written in 29/07/2008)

As regards the Italian sonnets, it is better described as 2 quatrains and 2 triplets, as it is usually explained in Italy, because this kind of division better describes the rhyme scheme: ABBA CDDC EFE GFG or ABAB ABAB CDC ECE

Wonderful! I'm about to teach a class on e. e. cummings' sonnets so this was very helpful and a great tool for students. Thank you very much.

The all-devouring fire of burning lust The joy of youth, the pain of getting old The truth that man one day must come to dust There's nothing in his sonnets left untold. I am trying to write a sonnet about William Shakespeare, and this is the first quatrain.

Thank you so much ,but can explain how I know divided the line whether it metar or panta metar??

IT's a pity she doesn't discuss the iambic rhythm of a sonnet. The gentleman who recited the sonnet didn't get the rhythm right; the stress falls on the SECOND syllable (not the first). So in the opening line, "I" is stressed, not "Shall". And in the second line, "winds" carries the stress, not "rough".

The 'concluding couplet' which you refer to as the 'rhyming couplet' is really as you say, an 'opinion' (or conclusion). Thanks for your information though, very useful.

Dude why is learning any of this necessary? I don't want to be a professional writer a day in my life, so why do I *have* to learn it?? If I want to write a letter, I'll use professional wording and make a proper letter, but I don't get why some fancy poofy-pants writer, and his wording is so necessary to learn about. Please do explain to me why I have to learn this, the education system makes no sense. I'd much rather learn computer science or ways to pay taxes... cool vid tho, very informative; if you *like* the subject.

When you are at this level of education, you are being introduced to various fields of learning and provided their fundamentals, which provides you with some basis for decisions about your future education and a basis for that education, whatever direction it goes, as well as enabling you to participate in society as roundly "educated" person, rather than as a mere cog in the money-making machine. Is the present educational model the best? Probably not - but that is some of the reasoning behind it.
