Mi piace celebrare il Natale con la mia famiglia mentre prepariamo (come tutti!) un cenone. È un tempo per essere graditi e apprezzare tutto che abbiamo nelle nostre vite. Nella mia famiglia, diamoci regali è pregiamo per un nuovo anno di felicità, salute e felicità. Una cosa che mi piace sulle celebrazione di Natale in Italia o anche in Hispania è la abbondanza è la visibilità delle feste. È troppo bello fare una passeggiata in ciascuna città e ammirare le luce, la musica, le decorazione.... Qui negli Stati Uniti penso che siamo un po più nervosi. Per esempio, mi sembra meno accettabile dire "Buon Natale" a qualcuno che non conosciamo è inoltre è più tabù/strano (ovviamente posso essere sbagliato) riconoscere la natura religiosa della festa. Abbiamo un immaginario più laico di Natale. Grazie mille per il video. Mi aiuta tanto a imparare e mi da ispirazione per scrivere/riflettere in italiano. Buon anno!

Napoli: alla vigilia Tutti i pesci del mare, capitone fritto e crostacei, insalata di rinforzo, ciociole varie, struffoli, rococò, raffiuoli, paste reali.... Minestra maritata a Natale. ( Verdure bollite con carni di maiale, tracchie, muscolo etc ), capretto con patate al forno, panettone, e il resto dei dolci. Limoncello a gogò. 😇 S. Stefano replica generale!❤❤ AUGURI A TUTTI!

Molto interessante, sentire della differenze tra nord e sud. La peara con il lesso sembra quasi inglese (brittanico), non credo che mi piacerebbe - se mai dovessi essere in Italia per Natale, andrò a Napoli o in Sicilia! Ma, qui, negli Stati Uniti, andrò a trovare la mia famiglia a poche ore da qui.

So very sad . . . Not one person mentioned Jesus, or his birth, and nobody mentioned going to church either?? I'm embarrassed to be Italian, if this is a true answer from most or all Italians this day. For me, we start at the beginning of the month. We may go to see The Nutcracker Ballet, a live nativity scene with live people & animals, and/or a trip to a local candy store, where they make candy canes for us. Warm freshly made candy canes are the best! On December 6th, we celebrate the feast of Saint Nicholas (for the little children) by putting our shoes out, so Saint Nicholas can bring little goodies, leaving them in the shoes- a new brown scapular for the new year, holy cards, stickers, and candy. This is the day we also set up our lighted nativity on the balcony (without baby Jesus). A couple of times, we celebrated a Las Posadas with our homeschool group. I spoke to a few of my neighbors in advance, and we went caroling to their houses, and also read about Joseph & Mary looking for a place to stay to have the baby. Then we came back to my home, and had hot Chocolate, food & a pinata. *See further description of Las Posadas at bottom of post. On Christmas eve, we usially go to Holy Mass at midnight which is a candlelight mass. Then in the morning the kids come wake us up (now the grandkids). We come down in our pj's, have a simple breakfast - usually bacon (made the day before) & cinnamon rolls with coffee, & open presents. Then we get ready for family to come over, or go to a relatives. When I host, I make lasagna, with homemade pasta (made a couple days in advance), and fresh mozzarella & ricotta, from a family owned cheese factory (I drive to a couple days before Christmas). My grandmama used to make leek soup for the first course, & I do occasionally. We also make a veal or beef dish like prime rib. And of course homemade cannolis! Then on Jan. 6th, we celebrate the Epiphany, the day the 3 kings bring gifts to Jesus. We have frankincense & myrrh, and gold chocolate coins & read a bible verse about the event. *Las Posadas: A procession of carolers lead by a small children dressed as an angel, Joseph & Mary, as well as food, warm drinks and piñatas.

I feel quite puzzled by the fact that somebody should feel "embarrassed" to be Italian when they see people like me, Italians born and bred in Italy, who do not speak about religion, mainly because they are not very religious anymore. I am sorry, but Italy has changed a lot and the idea that most Italians are devout Catholics is simply not true anymore. But, is there a need to be judgemental and state that you're "embarrassed" by us simply because we do not represent the kind of religious Italians you think we should be? Why should we "embarass" you? Aren't we allowed to express our views on Christmas witthout being judged?

Jesus wasn't born on December 25th. Christmas is a pagan holiday. Christ was born in spring or fall.

Also, when something is thick in your soul, there's no need to preach it. You LIVE it. That's the mistake a lot of U.S. Americans make... they speak too much when their actions do not match. Leading by example is always the best way. Exude happiness, family, giving... and you are speaking of Christ.

​​@@thepatriarchy819Yes, but since the certain date of his birth is unknown, Christians conventionally consider it the 25th of December. It's true that, originally, the 25th of December was a day dedicated to a pagan celebration regarding Sol invictus, but since it was christianized back in 366 A.D. everybody has always been celebrating it as the conventional birthday of Jesus Christ. Thus, despite its pagan origins, for Christians Christmas is a Christian celebration to remember the birth of Jesus. If anyone still wants to worship the god of Sol Invictus, he/she is free to do it and can continue seeing the 25th of December as the day dedicated to a pagan festivity. Otherwise it's a Christian celebration.
