There’s actually some researchers that studied the longevity in some populations in Sardinia, and they found out that life expectancy in these communities had a correlation with social bonding and close knit relationships. I find this awesome

The people of Sardinia live longer because the DNA is very isolated from the rest of Europe, in fact the Sardinians are the oldest people in Europe. As also is in Japan. They have preserved the DNA of the Neolithic peoples more than the rest of Europe.

I used to watch Easy French a lot for the past two years and Ive recently started Easy Italian. At least for me, I've noticed a vast difference between the interviewees of the two channels. Italians seem to be a lot more expressive and most of them even enjoy being interviewed.

We enjoy engaging with others. I'd say most of us tend to be extroverts. I went to Mass this afternoon and we were in a historic church. I actually live in Israel. A group of Italians came by to see the church and I got talking to them. One was so engaging, we talked for a while and then he brought me outside to where his wife and kids were sitting to meet them. It was lovely! I don't get to speak much because I'm usually thinking in Hebrew or English and switching to a third language is a challenge. But I was so relaxed and happy, the Italian just flowed. Our priests all speak it and our deacon is Italian so I really need to make more of an effort with them.

My grandma was 100% Sicilian and she died at 101 years old! I miss her like crazy

So did my grandmother. She lived both world wars and through a tough life where everything was done by hand and no education as they worked when they were young and raised a family of 4 kids who inherited her way of life as my mother did everything for us and lived her life for her kids and family. I didnt even know what fast food was growing up. I miss both yet I never knew my grandmother and only met her once when I went to Italy.

@@creeproot school in Italy is 100% better than in the US with regards to what you learn on a theoretical level. On a social level school in the US is better for all the sports you can play and for the many other activities or projects you can get involved in.

@@mm-es6yq in many regards it's extremely archaic and obsolete. the best thing it taught me is worth ethic, all the actual education was put to no use from the employment's perspective

@@creeproot It depends on what perspective you see things. Having attended the liceo, I have to say it helped me a lot on learning how to study in an academic environment. Philosophy and Latin language and literature helped me discuss on things on a logic level. Maths and physics are also teached ok, and they are absolutely necessary for passing an engineering course entry test. I really think there were no superfluous subjects in school, just a more practical approach would have been better.

Possibile che non un solo intervistato (quanto meno tra quelli pubblicati) abbia colto l'occasione per menzionare il tanto bistrattato (ma a ben guardare invidiabile) Sistema Sanitario Nazionale? Sconosciuto ai più nelle sue origini difficili e quasi miracolose, è ancora oggi - tra i tanti problemi e difficoltà che lo affliggono - una conquista di grande civiltà ed efficacia che garantisce a una delle popolazioni più anziane del mondo una qualità di cure e di vita per molti versi invidiabile. Credo che a volte gli italiani dimentichino con troppa facilità che, tra le tante lamentele che possono legittimamente rivolgere al mastodontico apparato della pubblica amministrazione, avrebbero anche delle ragioni per andarne orgogliosi.

La percezione dell'efficacia del nostro SSN nell'italiano medio è sottostimata. In realtà il nostro sistema sanitario è secondo - terzo al mondo in diverse classifiche. Ciò è dovuto al fatto che è molto efficace, riusciamo ad avere risultati che altri Paesi hanno con il triplo della spesa (vedi Svizzera, Svezia, Germania, Francia).

@@alemassa6632 Non posso che condividere il tuo discorso e rammaricarmi a mia volta per la percezione comune di un'eccellenza nazionale da parte dei molti interessati che avrebbero buona ragione di andarne orgogliosi. Purtroppo, se c'è un difetto massimamente diffuso in tutte le parti del Paese, è proprio quello di lagnarsi di se stessi anche laddove non ce ne sarebbe bisogno (tendenza troppo spesso associata a quella speculare di considerare insolubili problemi che volendo potrebbero essere affrontati).

il nostro sistema sanitario fa spesso acqua da tutte le parti, l'unica cosa buona è che è "gratuito". Se hai bisogno di certe visite in tempi brevi fai prima a scavarti la fossa, per non parlare di tutti quei medici che per scrivertele aspettano, chessò, che cag@i direttamente barre di plutonio radioattivo, o che per scrivere certi farmaci si fanno mille problemi perchè temono controlli fiscali e relative multe se scrivi farmaci mutuabili ma costosi. Per non parlare delle vergognose strutture, specie al sud. Se gli altri fan peggio allora non siamo migliori noi, ma semplicemente meno peggio...

Io sapevo che eravamo al secondo posto dietro al Giappone ma la ricerca che ho appena fatto ci colloca al terzo, dietro a Giappone e Hong Kong. C'è da dire che tra il primo posto e il 7°-8° ballano pochi mesi, per cui siamo sicuramente 'in cima'. Una volta ho sentito al telegiornale il 'decalogo dei centenari', 10 cose che fanno tutti quelli che arrivano a 100 anni. Le riassumo brevemente (per quello che ricordo): 1) pensiero positivo, affrontare i problemi della vita senza stressarsi. 2) camminare e fare movimento. 3) dieta mediterranea: mangiare cibi ricchi di omega 3, come olio e pesce, e soprattutto privi di conservanti e inquinanti. 4) evitare i cibi elaborati, quelli lavorati dalle industrie. 5) bere vino ed evitare i superalcolici: è fondamentale per gli antiossidanti e per la bassa gradazione alcolica. 6) andare a dormire presto e dormire almeno 8 ore: un buon riposo notturno ti permette di evitare l'instaurarsi e il peggioramento di malattie. Questi sono i principali fattori, gli altri non me li ricordo. Per rispondere alla vostra domanda: non so se mi piacerebbe vivere fino a 100 anni, alle condizioni attuali... mi piacerebbe vivere 150-200 anni se ci fosse la possibilità di invecchiare più lentamente.

a study of global "blue" zones, one of which is in a part of Sardinia, reveals that generally these zones have more relaxed or rustic lifestyle, that the elderly have activities, close family and/or close community, diets are mostly plant based with a base carb (like pasta, yam, rice, grain, etc), and moderate animal protein. These blue zones are usually in locals where the people have exercise in their daily routine like walking, staying busy in gardens and kitchens cooking for family and friends, and relaxed lifestyles. This is a generalization.

Likeliest reason for all the longevity is genetics which of course may be modified some by food, lifestyle, activity level etc. It will be interesting to see statistics among "immigrant" Italians.

It's worth looking at obesity rates, homicide rates, drug overdose rates, child mortality rates. They have, essentially, nothing to do with obesity and collectively explain a big part of the difference between Italians' life expectancy and that of Americans. Of course genetics play a part, but even without making excessive adjustments, their role seems relatively slim to me

@@salvolondon grazie mille! E grazie per le correzioni. Ma ho una domanda. Pensavo che quando un aggettivo si trova prima del sostantivo allora significherà qualcosa diversa. Cioè una volta ho sentito la frase "dopo la colazione bevo un bel bicchiere d'acqua." In questo caso "bel" non significa "beautiful" ma qualcosa come grande oppure rinfrescante. Abito in America del Nord e confermo è molto freddo hahaha

Don't wish that on her. My marriage wasn't the greatest, and I accept my role in that but to become a widow in my 70's was awful! The worst loss I ever experienced, including both parents. If I get another chance, I hope neither of us lives much longer than the other. BTW, I'm Italian.

It's likely anyway.. my job is very physical and I don't let her do a man's role like lifting and fixing. As a man I can't expect any lady to carry a baby 9m and lift or fix.

Condivido con alcuni intervistati che "dipende dalla qualità della vita ad un'età avanzata" (dignitosa o no? Quanto autonoma? Si riesce ancora a godere la vita? ecc), da quanto bene si sia fatto, quanto piena sia stata la vita, dal lascito che rimane della propria esistenza. Più positivo o negativo? L'alimentazione sana credo riguardi più i nostri nonni che noi. Con i cibi industriali, processati mi sa che anche la longevità si riduce (basta il contenuto di zucchero processato!) + Soprattutto, sapersi godere la vita appena ne abbiamo l'opportunità (carpe diem), essere positivi, emotivamente più aperti dei popoli nordici. Se riesco a mantenere questo approccio alla vita benvengano i cent'anni. Rimanendo attivo, non solo nella mia vita personale, ma nella comunità.

A good indicator of the length of winter is given by the period in which the radiators are turned on: here in Lombardy they are turned on from 15 October to 15 April - six months - and sometimes even beyond this date and arriving in May. So here the winter is not that short and not even mild. And there are areas in upper Lombardy where domestic heating extends beyond those periods.

Ahaha, Matteo, forse la lingua c'entra qualcosa. Soprattutto se non è la prima lingua. Ho studiato fino al terzo livello in Uni ma non ho avuto nessuno con cui parlare per molti anni. Ora ho fatto 3 viaggi dalla fine del 2020, appena tornato da un mese a Salerno la scorsa settimana. Verso Natale, ho iniziato a pregare in italiano, un rosario completo ogni sera e alcune altre preghiere. Lo faccio ad alta voce. Sono vecchia ma trovo che la recitazione mi aiuti non solo con la mia pronuncia che devo dire è eccellente (sono presa per un madrelingua) ma stimola la mia mente e mi aiuta a ricordare e conservare la grammatica a un livello ragionevolmente alto . Espanderò la mia recitazione a cose non spirituali e ho un corso di conversazione avanzato disponibile dove mi trovo, quindi lo farò.

Quella della pizza è uno stereotipo... In realtà gli italiani mangiano molta meno pizza degli americani... E poi la pizza non è un cibo "italiano" ma fa parte della tradizione alimentare napoletana. In molte zone d'Italia, ad esempio dove vivo io, la mia è la prima generazione di italiani che mangiano la pizza, o miei genitori o i miei nonni non l'hanno mai mangiata abitualmente. Eppure anche da me (sulle Alpi italiane) si vive molto a lungo! That of pizza is a stereotype ... In reality, Italians eat much less pizza than Americans ... And then pizza is not an "Italian" food but is part of the Neapolitan food tradition. In many areas of Italy, for example where I live, mine is the first generation of Italians who eat pizza, my parents or grandparents have never eaten it regularly. Yet even here (in the Italian Alps) you live a very long time!
