The Italian game nowadays is one of the absolute most popular opening choices played from beginner level right up to the best players in the world. Therefore, it is a very good opening to familiarize yourself with.
In this video, IM Alex Astaneh is covering the main variations, in particular the Greco Gambit - Modern Line in the Giuoco Piano of the Italian game. The main focus of this video is to show you the main strategies and plans for both sides in the different variations.
The Giuoco Piano in the Italian game is characterized by the following moves:
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.c3 Nf6
White has several major options here, but the variation covered in this video is the so-called Greco Gambit - Modern Line which arises after 5.d4 exd4 and white’s in-between move 6.e5.
Black has several options here:
1:10 6…Ng4
1:55 6…Ne4
3:02 6…d5
White has several options here:
3:17 7.exf6
4:10 7.Be2
5:42 7.Bb5
After 7…Ne4 8.cxd4 Bb6 9.Nc3 0-0
White has several options here:
8:32 10.0-0
10:12 10.Be3
Black has two main options:
11:40 10…f5
13:30 10…Bg4

. I had a look at the website and I’m quite impressed by the amount of content there. I was wondering if there are already any game analysis and commentaries on the website? And will there be more added videos and courses added to the website and how regularly? Also, will the videos at some point be all added to the KZbin channel? Sorry for all the questions I just want to know that this is definitely something that would benefit me. Thanks (:

Thanks for reaching out to us. Yes, we have some game analysis videos, but these are not the typical commentary videos, you know from KZbin. The commentary of rapid and blitz games will soon be on our KZbin channel. On our website the focus was more on the educational side in order to help you to develop a better chess understanding in general. We will upload regularly new courses to different topics and in particular with 3D board (the 2D board view will be added additionally, so that the user can choose). We are planning to upload monthly new content to different topics. A couple of videos will be published on our KZbin channel but the majority is only available on our website.

Great video, thanks a lot! It is very in depth and there are great, thorough explanations. I would like to point out an error, though. At 1:20, 7. Bf4 is a blunder after Nxf2, white is losing a rook, or if Kxf2, black has dxc3+ and white cannot stop cxb2 and then bxa1=Q (and white is losing their rook anyway).
@kurozawa6

Exactly. I've been fascinated with this opening and used to analyze it with engines. The proper response to 6. ...Ng4 is simply 7. cxd4.
@kurozawa6
@kurozawa6 Жыл бұрын
The line at 2:17 is incorrect as well... I was excited to watch this video as it's the only one I found that covered this opening. Unfortunately, the analysis wasn't double-checked thoroughly.
@sourandbitter3062

1:20 Watch out, 7. Bf4 cannot be the refutation to 6... Ng4 as 7... Nxf2 8. Kxf2 followed by dxc3+, cxb2 wins for black. Correct is 7.cxd4.
@Chessfactor
@Chessfactor 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for bringing this line to our attention. I checked it and you are indeed correct, the line would be crushing for Black so White should avoid this with 7.cxd4 like you suggest.

Those videos truely improve my chess understanding, Thank you!!!. Can you please try to explain why at 10:21 the be3 move is more flexible than castling? How does that help me respond differently to bg4 by black? If I castle first and then play be3 after bg4 I can't see the difference.

At 2:08 After 6. e5 Ne4 7. Bd5 f5 8. exf6 is a blunder as Nxf6 comes with tempo on the d5 bishop and the threat of Qe7. -1.7 with stockfish. Instead 8. cxd4 or 8. O-O evaluate at about +1.8

1:34 im really confused here, i put the exact same position into analysis and it says -2 for back after ng4? because if you defend the pawn with the bishop as alex shows, they can take the f2 pawn and continue to take the rook for example.... am i being dumb or is he showing us losing moves and saying they are good?

lichess.org/1XxfbRpu#88 This is Alex's game he mentioned in the video (where, in the main line, his opponent didn't pressure the central light squares with Nc3, allowing Alex to play f5 and, after exf6, Qxf6).

Glad you ask. Additional model games as well as other videos on the Italian Game are only available on our website.

2:13, after 6. ... Ne4 7. Bd5 f5 the continuation can't be 8. exf6 due to 8. ... Nxf6 and the engine likes black (Qe7+ is coming). Instead 8. cxd4 and engine says white is much better.

at 1:16 can't black take on f2 if white plays Bf4, arguing that if Kxf2 then, dxc3 is a discovered check and after the king moves he has cxb2 trapping the rook on a1.
@SanketPatole
@SanketPatole 2 жыл бұрын
@Chessfactor Chesscom's engine prefers cxd4 over e5 pawn push It also prefers Ng4 over d5 pawn push. Also, it says that Bf4 after Ng4 is a massive blunder. It's all confusing. 😭

@1:20 The computer really hates Bf4, because black has some Nxf2 ideas and if Kxf2 black will play ... dxc3+ ultimately winning the rook.

It is different from the Knight sacrifice when it goes to e4 because the white's dark bishop is still at his home square and will capture the pawn after cxb2.

What about 6...Ng4 7. Bf4 (recommended on video) ...Nxf2 instead of ...0-0. Surely White is lost after this?
@sronen71
@sronen71 3 жыл бұрын
Right, the engine (stockfish 12+ WASMX) says 6. e5 Ng4 7. Bf4 is losing to Nxf2. Instead it suggest 7. cxd4 and white is better +1.3 but there is still some complicated continuation.
