Footage has captured the devastation after huge boulders crashed through and destroyed a barn in northern Italy. An estimated four thousand cubic meters of rock came loose from a cliff face above the site, before destroying most of the 300-year-old building. Huge scars were left in the hillside where the jagged rocks had rolled, with surrounding vineyards also left badly damaged. No one was injured in the incident. Report by Sophie Foster.

It is, but at the same time it rolled centuries ago. It's like building Japan on a vulcanic island, or Venice in a sure to be underwater region. We have part of the indian/asian coast very susceptible to tsunamis and seaquakes, aswell as a few USA states/coast regions vulnerable to hurricanes and typhons. It happened in the past and will happen again. Though, yeah, a very wise builder could have taken it into account.

I'd love to join in giving them crap, but, erm, humans have a poor history when it comes to finding safe building locations. I mean, volcanoes, you'd think that'd be a no-brainer, right? For sure, land around volcanoes is super fertile, but smart to build HOUSES around them? No. And yet, we do it. Even worse, have a look at the predictions for the future of L.A. Talk about a MAJOR fault line. Let's just be honest, for an intelligent species, we're far too shocked when this kind of thing happens... "oh no! Who could have EVER predicted that building my house in a major flood area would end up badly!?" Humans... we kinda suck :P

Wow, what a shock, that would be, to see some monster rocks go rolling your taking out your barn and destroying part of your house. It's amazing, no one, was hurt. The drone footage has captured the devastation after huge boulders crashed through and destroyed a barn in northern Italy. Thanks, ITN, for the post.

It's interesting to read all the comments saying "How could they built there" and "I would never want to live in the mountains", because I do live there, and I'm thinking the same about living near the coast or right next to a volcano. Slightest chance of a tsunami or pyroclastic flow? Nah, man, I'm out! Fear of the unknown and unfamiliar seems to be greater than fear of the dangers nearby.
