Your sound seems not just a perfect imitation but a kind of the first step Allan could make)). And could you do a lessson on all these chords? It all sounds really authentic altogether. Thanks a lot!

thank you for your comment! The chords are from Above & Below (The 16 men of tain record). You can find them here and there in youtube. you can also see a lot of live versions from Allan himself and find out the chords watching him , one by one like I did, so you will interiorise them better good luck and have fun

Allan used a combination of the guitar pickup together with the Roland VG synth. That's where that bright sound comes from.

While some folks may say "that's not Allan's tone", I am thankful for this upload. It's a difficult task to get really close to any player's signature sound/s; that said I am definitely going to use this as a template/road map/cheat sheet 😅 Cheers and more power Justin from the Philippines

I think Alan used just the bridge pickup for clean but yours seems like bridge and middle sound. And I'm pretty sure Alan wouldn't just play clean into a mixer w/o using amps on stage. Here is a vid where you can clearly see he's using one bridge pickup and TWO Carvin amps to get a stereo clean sound on stage.
@italianguitar
@italianguitar 6 ай бұрын
he was using amps live of course but he told me most pf the time he went straight into the mixer for clean for records.
@TruthSurge
@TruthSurge 5 ай бұрын
@@italianguitar Oh, well, for recording yeah, maybe he did go straight to the mixer but I know live he probably didn't because you don't want a mix person controlling your sound. That's why he's doing all the presets from stage between songs because he needs to hear it on stage like he wants to hear it. Nice playing, by the way!!

Actually, he uses his bridge humbucker exclusively for all clean sounds. What your hearing is the top end sound of his Carvin humbucker pick ups: it sounds single -coily on the top end. He NEVER used a single coil pick up for lead or clean.
@italianguitar
@italianguitar 4 ай бұрын
sure we all know thtis. but you may be surprised on how many things he did which are a secret during the recordings. anyway the eq surely helps the sound to be very similar to a single coil. pick up was very far from the strings, 250 k volume pot instead 500 makes the sound darker and he used it not at 10 with a .001 rs which make the sound brighter when turned down…my video are more about how to try to achieve a similar sound with what we have available and a single coil sound is going to get a very similar sound with any guitar and amp/di

I think you are right….this clip where he only has a bridge humbucker yet the tone sounds about identical to the studio version……kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHXNk6WNf95gnLMsi=PlgJMXELbRD0DE1q

It does not matter which pick up *you* use as long as its eq curve is somewhat similar, you guys spend far too long watching and not long enough listening. You can always replicate the same results with completely different gear, all you need to do is use your ears.

@@JohnDaubSuperfan369 Well, I suppose I'll waiste my time arguing with you for kicks while I have coffee.. I simply stated the facts of what Mr. Holdsworth used. And the video I listened to above sounds very little like his actual sound attempting to be reproduced-- matter in fact: the sounds in the video posted are fairly lame attempts.. As far as my ears are concerned, I make my living as a F.OH. engineer. Do you??? 30 years now. As well as being a staple NYC session guitarist with a graduate degree in composition from New York University. I'll never be an original genius such as Mr. Holdsworth, but I can put my skills up as proof of my listening abilities.. If you're going to reproduce a modern staple sound, at least provide accurate information regarding the originators tools..
