Just to let yall know a lot of mixed people passed as white back then so they wouldnt be mistreated like black people. I have people in my own blood line who chose to live as white people back in the 1920's 30's. You would be surprised how common this was. My grandparents never would talk about it. Lot of older black folks in our families didnt tell us the horror stories they went through. I dont think they wanted to re-live those nightmares. Racism ruined a lot of lives a lot of families. 4:17 I notice that his younger face more clearly shows the thicker lips because apparently all the intimations from people that he was part black literally made him roll his lips under as you can clearly see in pretty much every older shot. He is literally holding his lips together. In the 4:17 footage, he is too young to start doing that and as such, you can clearly see the TRUE shape of both of his lips which are quite thick and thicker than any full blooded German guy I've seen pictures of. Now, maybe there were anomalies... Arnold Schwarzenegger had full lips but his face was long and his profile pretty flat and white. He's from Austria, just above Germany. So... given all this evidence, I'm not leaning toward George having like 10% African in him. His iris color even seems to be dark. I wonder if he had brown eyes. Prob so. 12:03 wow. There you go. That hair and skin tone and huge frame..... I'm going with some black in there.

I've heard that there was a lot of people that thought this back in the day and i tried explaining to my friends about it but they didn't believe me. I could see how one could make that conclusion with his features but it's not uncommon for regular white folk to have those features either. There might be some African or Latin American blood somewhere in him. That's not impossible but he's definitely, overwhelmingly white and his mother didn't have an illegitimate child. He's copy and pasted from his father. You can't argue that at all. Anyways, European facial features vary greatly depending on region and some features can be considered more African. He probably has ancestry closer to the Mediterranean. Maybe more Eastern European genes, idk. Features aren't always a good way to judge race. I have an aunt that looks South East Asian. We're all white in my family. She just has narrow eyes and bigger lips. Our brains are just really good at pattern recognition. It doesn't mean that the pattern is indicative of race.

I think it was much less sinister if you read about it--and it is one of the reasons why Jackie Robinson wasn't really "a hero", more just a figurehead. For starters, World War II was the catalyst for the color line being broken, and it is neved talked about. Pretty much every abled body American had fought either the Germans or the Japanese, and they had seen the ugliest sides of racism, or lost someone to those ideology. This caused everyone to reevaluate their old ideals of race. It wasn't that Branch Rickey was some quaker looking to make a point for the good of society. He was just a Moneyball practitioner for his time who wanted to win, and he was like that even into the 1950s. He saw a talent pool that wasn't being used or was undervalued, and he wanted to improve his team. Having Jackie Robinson, or nine Jackie Robinsons would help any team. Second, Jackie Robinson was hardly the only athlete to experience bad words being hurled at him. If you could see baseball in the 1900s, you would be shocked. It was largely a game for poor Irish and immigrant ruffians who often brawled in the middle of games. They said horrible things to each other, and that was just par for the course. Ethnic slurs were always fair game, for EVERYONE, because, you know, up until about five minutes ago, that was the way males bonded with each other. It certainly wasn't something that kept a man like Jackie Robinson up at night. Ironically, everything you've read about Ty Cobb is probably untrue. He was the son of a lawyer who defended blacks in Georgia, and being well-educated, was probably less racist than most of his counterparts. He certainly wasn't the avowed racist Al Stump--a pure charlatan--portrayed him to be later in life. Ruth simply had the features that people associated with blacks of that time. The big lips, the large ears, the rounded face. It became an easy way to make fun of him for a competetive edge. Hell, that's why they called him Babe, he had the rounded face one associated with the name "Babe". It was actually a pretty common nickname for anyone that didn't have WASP-y, defined features. If you look at Ruth, he looks exactly like his father, who was white. As for the thumbnail picture you reference at the beginning of the show, I think it is much more likely that the people are backed away from him because photo ops of the day were much harder to come by, and also, the journalists wouldn't want the aperture crowded with other people in the photographs. It's not because he was "black".

Look at his nose and lips. He definitely has some African ancestry. No doubt about it.

I've spent my entire life treating everyone with respect, including black people, but that doesn't make me black. I'm a Baltimore German American like Ruth.

The reason he was taunted with slurs/nicknames/put downs etc. was because when you "push someone's buttons", "get their goat" etc. you can emotionally manipulate that person. Think of how muhammad ali used to verbally taunt his opponents. When was Ruth was taunted he became incensed, furious, upset etc... which would effect his performance negatively..!

Both his parents were German. Maybe they left Germany because one was Jewish or had other features in their ancestry. He wasn’t hiding anything or being allowed to play in white leagues and was not. He was considered white. He seemed like a cool dude.

There's more chance of Aaron having white in his ancestry, than the Babe having black .

Who cares if he was black or not. What matters is: he was a great baseball player that helped make it more popular, because of his ability to hit a lot of home-runs

Hank Aaron was the greatest baseball player ever. Period.
@somebodyandthem6 ай бұрын
Depends how you define best player. Babe was the best in terms of being so much better than everyone in their time. Barry bonds was definitely better than Hank Aaron. Bonds stats are insane but he was steroids hanging over him. If Aaron played in today’s time he maybe hits 400 home runs

In the photo on Wikipedia his father looks way more Black. It’s horrible how he was treated, whatever his ethnicity was.
@ornamentalyouth21 күн бұрын
honestly, one look at any photo of babe ruth's father such as the one in this short piece really should put an end to this conversation as far as i'm concerned. if you google 'Babe Ruth and his Father in Their Baltimore Tavern. (1915)' you get a photo of them side by side working together in his father's tavern. that should really put an end to the conversation.
