California has a huge Asian population. California also has a huge Japanese community that dates back to the late 1800's. Flying to Japan from LA is much shorter than, lets say, flying from NY or Toronto. The Dodgers have always had a big Japanese fan base in California and Japan. The Dodgers are one of the first MLB teams to have a Japanese born player, Hideo Nomo. Andrew Friedman personally went to see Sasaki in Japan several years back. The Dodgers organization has a diverse, deep and storied history. The Dodgers are coming off a World Series win with the best player in the world, Shohei. The Dodgers have been in the playoffs for 12 straight seasons. The Dodgers are known to have a reliable, smart front office and a great player development system. The Dodgers are willing to spend money to put forth a great baseball team. The Dodgers want to win. Oh and Sasaki was a WBC champion with two current Dodgers players, Shohei and Yamamoto. Well that's absurd, it's not the Dodgers fault that they are the most attractive destination for Japanese players to develop and excel. You get to live in LA with a large Japanese community, best front office in the MLB that has been doing it for over a decade, great facilities, great coaches, great farm system, great clubhouse, and most importantly you join a team that is so strong, they can afford you far more time to find your footing than other teams. Dave Roberts is well known for sticking with his guys far longer than most managers would as well. Why wouldn't you go to the Dodgers?

Yeah literally the only reason Sasaki wouldn't go to the dodgers is if he thought of himself as an anime character and wanted to face off against Ohtani. That's the ONLY reason. If the guy wants to prove himself, doesn't care about the money, just wants to be HIS literal best... why would he not go TO the best? I can see why people think this was rigged given Friedmans comments about the Dodgers looking at him for 6 years and how him going to the Dodgers seemed obvious because they have two Japanese players but other teams have Japanese players so that doesn't seem to be the biggest reason. It does seem more likely its because the Dodgers are a juggernaut right now and they are just taking advantage of the slow and cheap owners from other teams that dont do shit in the off-season. Blame the other clubs for not doing anything, they could have easily scouted him for 6 years too. But I get why teams that actually went out and tried to get Sasaki would be suspicious. They feel like they never had a true chance and that sucks. I see both sides of the argument.

Players don't want a salary cap. Stop crying. Royals need to worry about developing because other than Bobby Witt Jr, they really can't develop anybody. The Twins are getting new ownership soon, so hopefully it's someone who cares about winning. The Reds ownership literally told fans they can't go anywhere, so they're stuck with what they have. He ain't serious about winning.

if you’re a basketball player and was given the opportunity to play with kobe or jordan but in china or japan, would you take cheaper contract for that once in a lifetime opportunity? or you go somewhere else and play with ben simmons, kyle kuzma or austin reaves? 😂😂😂 for 10 percent more money. give me 50 percent more money then we’ll talk.
@danieldanielson2324Күн бұрын
The dodgers were an obvious choice, but not because it’s rigged, but because the dodgers made themselves the obvious pick. They put a lot of work into their club. No one really talks about being a foreign Japanese player moving to America. That’s a life adjustment. Why would he not choose the place that has his friends as a Japanese presence in the club house and that wins.

I mean MLB can say nothing happened but why trust them multiple teams complained in 2017 about the Astros cheating yet they didn’t do anything until 3 years later everyone knew the Astros were cheating but MLB did nothing so if everyone sees the dodgers have an underhanded deal it’s likely right, also kinda weird he went to the team with the highest rate of Tommy John surgery to “develop better”

There needs to be an international amateur draft. Period. Otherwise the idiot Dodgers are going to get all of them. Also, the whole deferment crap needs to end and all of that deferred money should count against the luxury tax. MLB needs to do this now.

Chiba Lotte could not make Sasaki do what they wanted him to do. I don’t think Dodgers or any other MLB teams are not able to make him do what they want him to do, either. Sasaki himself is the only person who is firmly in a driver’s seat of his destiny and will do whatever he thinks is right for him and his family. If anyone thinks or says otherwise, he/she is merely covering his/her inability to sign him to his/her ball clubs.

It probably wasn't rigged but the optics are just bad. I remember last year that the announcement of Sasaki being literally within a week of news stating that the Dodgers really wanted him. And then after that the league randomly announced a rule stating that MLB teams & their staff can't contact Japanese or Korean players. It was just too coincidental.
@hopespringseternal26246 сағат бұрын
The Dodgers will destroy Sasaki's arm. 14 pitchers on their team were injured last year and 3 pitchers of theirs had to have TJ surgeries last year.
