It is another term for 'Italian' like Italian Disco is 'Italo Disco' which is pretty much what genre Fancy is who performed the song 'Slice Me Nice'. I'm guessing that's why this mod is 'Italo Doom'.

Yeah, no, I don't expect you to finish ANY of the maps blind. I've watched Arbys550 play this, and I tell you, Italo goes BALLS TO THE WALL. It's so hardcore that it can get annoying. But at the same time, it fits your preferred playstyle like a prosthetic: the maps are quick, high-energy, all-or-nothing and actively disfavour saving. I know Ribbiks and Danne are Boom-oriented, but damn does this start seem to beg for ZDoom features. Imagine noping right over those pinkies... and then getting swarmed by a dense cluster of Cacos in the nukefall section. _And then_ completing the final platforming bit by actively jumping. Really, this design would be a jungle gym for a default GZDoom compat setting. So much fun.
