Consider Trestles lucky to be a tour event. Definitely not deserving of a final. And also prefer old style league. Way better. Finish at pipe which deserves the grand stand wrap up of year

7.8 for one meh rote. ill give him it was a chonky section but still 7.8 for one maneuver seems high at trestles. Great heat though. Incredible surfing both sides just wildly different styles. Personally I think EE took that one but that's cuz i love me some clean ass powersurfing.

The scoring in this heat was atrocious. But I called it yesterday: this is the WSL and there was only one Brazilian on the men's side. There is no way he isn't going through. That last air was the sloppiest, lamest, worst reverse I've seen in a long time. To get a 7.8 is ridiculous. But, again, if Italo doesn't make it through, WSL loses viewership from Brazil and loses money. It all makes sense. This final 5 was created specifically so Toledo and Italo would win titles -- and here we are. [Side note -- just like we are seeing Weston-Webb being overscored -- this isn't rocket science].

It’s funny how some Brazilians argue the exact opposite, that the Americans and Australians are being pushed since the biggest viewership is still in English, along with the biggest sponsors, over all I think both sides of this argument is nonsense, unless you wanna believe in conspiracy theories.

​@@leandrodias2050 But the facts are that viewership and money coming from Brazil is enormous in this sport. Huge. Viewership is so big, there is a portuguese only feed. The OI Rio Pro remains on tour because -- and everyone in the industry will tell you this -- it is the biggest money maker on tour by far. A Brazilian not in the final against JJF here is a net loss for WSL. A Brazilian as world champ, going from 5th to 1st? A HUGE economic opportunity. I think folks need to realize that WSL is entertainment -- it isn't some pure, clean, wonderful thing. It is about money and generating more viewers, more TV coverage, and more money. Video of Italo spitting in mirrors, freaking out, breaking boards, sells. It is what it is.

@@zenmaster6780 Yes, Italo does the same slash and same air over and over again. EE's turns are always different, and always have different style and variations. He has like three different versions of his top rail turn (unlike Griffin who really only has one). Now, if you think airs should get scored higher than rail turns, I get it. But that is a different subjective discussion.

Italo does amazing airs but he always looks out of control. The judges set the benchmark with the scores for single airs and so the power surfing was always playing catchup.

Sad, surfing has gone in the wrong directions what happened to rewarding speed, style and flow. The whole get as many turns to the beach thing is jacked, italo is a great surfer but his rail game is weak. Peter media can teach all these guys about what a cutback should look like e

Rad power dynamics against smooth flowing.carving. .competitions judges have work cut out to compare too totally different styles is it even possible both surfers are awesome. Guess have to break it dwn inch by inch which sux this not how surfing should be decided.

@kevinmikaere48 It reminds me of so many young kids when first learning guitar...they just want to play as many notes as quickly as possible when soloing. It is some adolescent human nature deal. Then there are the guitar greats who play less notes while soloing, but that which are played are perfect. The butt wiggling gives an illusion of better I guess...like extra notes/too many notes played.

or....you could just stop complaining about every heat. Judging isn't perfect and surfing is very subjective. You could make an argument that either surfer won (they are very different style wise) but at the end of the day Italo moved on. I think Ethan's last wave should have gotten the needed score but I guess the judges didn't. Somehow I'll go on with my life.
