I have never been so disappointed in an Italian performance as I have been in this tournament. There was absolutely nothing Italian about it. Can’t defend, can’t attack, nothing in midfield… Sheer stubbornness and pigheadedness from Spalletti, sticking with the likes of Di Lorenzo despite woeful performances. The players haven’t and won’t respond to Spalletti and he needs to go before he wastes another opportunity with what I can see are some pretty decent, young players. It’s been excuse after excuse since the Spain game. We need a Conte or a Mancini in charge, someone who can galvanise and energise the players…Where was the passion?!?!? There are 5 Italian mangers in this tournament and we drew the short straw for sure!

No heart, no organsation, no game plan, no composure, no tempo, no attack, no contingency plans.... and Godawful touchline body language and press conference communication and behaviour. Pathetic. An abject failure at every level by the coach. Also, please don't give me the "he's only had 14 games..." excuse. Strong and competent coaches leave a clear impression of their tactical, style and mentality within a game or two. 14 games in and we still have no idea what he's trying to do. It's clear that he's already lost the players.

Did you bother to watch the video before commenting? He says in his answer to the first question put to him that, basically, the players were not following his instructions and training poorly.

@@Romulan1993 If it was one or two players under-performing I would agree with you, but it's practically the entire starting lineup and most of the subs. Gigi and Calafiori aside, every player was less than a shadow of what we see at club level. Spalletti confuses the hell out of his players with his indecision, word salads, contradictions.... He had the luxury of time at club level. At International level, the coach has to be decisive and not confuse the hell out of his players with his constant tinkering, and make them anxious with his general behaviour. 14 games in and we still have no idea what Spalletti is trying to do with the team. I have zero confidence in him going forwards. He failed at every level.

That was the worst Italy display I have seen at any finals, brutal as I am a supporter. Great incentive for England to get to the semi as the Swiss are average.

The problem with Italian football is that it has not evolved. I remember my younger years watching Batistuta, Caniggia, Baggio every weekend and went out to play with my friends trying to copy how they would score goals. Now, I watch Serie A matches and wonder how these footballers even get paid that much.

Spaletti, you should quit. You have downgraded Italy football team performance severely. Italy played far better in the last EURO. It is not the matter of WIN or LOSS, It is the matter how much disgusting Italy was playing in this EURO. There was no beauty in their play. They were just unable to keep ball in their foot. And it seemed they did not know what they are doing in the field.

To be fair there have been warning signs throughout his career, especially in cup competitions. Roma's 7-1 defeat to Man Utd, Napoli's pitiful exit to Milan in last years CL. Also, Napoli fizzled out terribly in the run up to winning the league, and were very fortunate that a) they had built up such a strong lead, and b) their rivals did their utmost to screw up. His teams often exhibit a soft underbelly and get found out, most often in the biggest of games, at the most crucial times. In short, I don't believe he is even close to being the genius he, and many others, make him out to be.

Football is becoming a redemption sport for Africans. They get better body strength DNA, train harder. For them is either win and be a millionaire in Europe or be a looser in Africa. There is no mid way. We in Italy have less youth and less youth willing to invest their future into the ball ⚽️… it’s like Mike Tyson explaining to his son that he can’t be a boxer as his dad. Italy will never win a WC or Euro again. They can’t develop players especially upfront. In Europe, they’re one of the weakest now. Scotland would be Italy.
