Sanremo is the biggest music festival in Italy...all big artists attend if they can. It has nothing to do with ESC. That is why Mahmood, il Volo and tons of others are taking part. You are underestimating the fact that Sanremo has nothing to do with Eurovision. That's why the winner can choose to go but that's not an obligation and that's why you may see old faces as well as new ones. Millions of italian people watch Sanremo and it's such good promotion both for new and old artists. I think no one outside of Italy can quite understand the impact this festival has. Think of that scene of the devil wears prada where they say Miranda is so powerful that designers change their collection just because of her ... Miranda is Sanremo 😂

This song is incredibly deep and complex both in the melody and the lyrics. “La noia” litteraly means “The boredom”. Angelina overturns the conception of boredom, which is seen as a moment of rebirth after pain. Boredom should not be fought: it is precious time to dedicate to ourselves. And in difficult times, it is the perfect opportunity to dance about it.

@@musicm1rage623Vocals aren't the only element. Personally I really like the song structure. About the vocals, this song is really hard to sing too, while the notes aren't impossible for a pro singer it requires an excellent breath control to be sung without falling flat.

These Eurovision folks just don't get Sanremo. To refer to it as a "preselection" for ESC is beyond ridiculous. Sanremo is a festival in its own right. It is older than Eurovision, which was actually modelled on it. ESC is not even a topic during the festival. According to the rules, the winner can decide whether to go to the ESC or not, and if they go, they can even choose to perform a different song. Italy skipped Eurovision so many times in the course of its history, but they would never dream to have a year without Sanremo.

Considering, it's been the Italian delegation's method of selection since 2015, it is a preselection for Eurovision. It's just different from your standard national final like Melodifestivalen.

If Eurovision stopped tomorrow, SanRemo wouldn't. It's not a 'national final'. It's the main event for those involved - ESC is simply tacked on by RAI because it makes sense to them to do it.

It's not a traditional national selection the same way the likes of Melodifestivalen and Festival da Canção are (even though they are also legacy song contests themselves with a legacy to uphold similar to Sanremo). The Italian delegation's current method to select their act to represent Italy for Eurovision is through Sanremo. But unlike most other preselections, they have a different way of choosing their performer. Whoever wins Sanremo has an option to accept or refuse RAI's invitation to go to Eurovision. Once they waived their right to refuse, the broadcaster would then tap into the pool of talent they have access to from the latest edition of Sanremo, particularly those who have provisionally made their intentions to go to ESC known beforehand. So I hope I made that clear to you. :)

Il festival di Sanremo non è la selezione per gli ESC, è il più importante festival della canzone italiana di tutta la storia musicale della nostra nazione, è il superbowl delle competizioni canore italiane. Gli artisti farebbero di tutto per essere presi a Sanremo, anche perché è due settimane di ospitate in trasmissioni televisive, si fanno gruppi di opinione, si passa la canzone in radio e su Spotify migliaia di volte. Non so se rendo l' idea e mi scuso se non uso l' inglese che capisco ma non so scrivere, quindi traducete perché qualcuno al di fuori lo deve capire! Essere scelti per partecipare a Sanremo è ancora sinonimo di essere destinati al successo per gli artisti italiani. Anche arrivare ultimi o penultimo ha sempre portato fortuna: il grande Vasco Rossi ne è un esempio. ESC quando ero ragazza io neanche sapevo che esistesse, mentre per Sanremo l' Italia si ferma come ai rigori per i mondiali di calcio.

@@Pggng non è assolutamente vero, durante la folle settima di Sanremo quasi tutta l’Italia si riunisce davanti alla tv, o comunque si parla solo di quello. Poi se a te non piace e non lo vedi ok, ma negli ultimi 5 anni Amadeus è riuscito a riavvicinare i giovani al festival. Fidati che il suo successo non è più dato dagli overo 50, ma da come si può notare anche solo dai social, il successo lo porta la fascia 15-35. L’ESC credo che in Italia venga visto solo per supportare il nostro paese: si vede la performance del nostro rappresentante e i voti finali, o almeno penso che per la maggior parte delle persone sia così. Non dico che non si guardino anche le performance degli altri paesi, ma lo si fa molto alla leggera e non con la stessa passione e attenzione con cui ascoltiamo le canzoni di Sanremo. Infatti non credo che mi sia mai capitato (a me personalmente) di risentire una canzone dell’eurovision dopo la sua fine, mentre le canzoni del festival le sentiamo per un anno intero e anche più; e questo lo dico evidenziando il fatto che l’eurovision lo guardo tipo dal 2012. Non dico che non sia una cosa bellissima per un’artista che rappresenta il suo paese andare all’eurovision, ma sta di fatto che vincere Sanremo, ma anche solo viverlo rimane l’emozione più grande a mio parere per un cantante italiano.

Let's not confuse Sanremo and Eurovision. We have many singers that participate in Sanremo many times, because Sanremo is more important than Eurovision in Italy. The winner is given the possibility to participate in the Eurovision, but this is not the principal goal for us.

after all these years Deban still fails to understand what Sanremo is and keeps being unnecessarily rude, this time against Mamhood. Sanremo in Italy is like the Oscar night for Hollywood. You don't tell an actor not to go because he already won once. It's the event where artists somewhat HAVE TO BE to keep being relevant in the Italian market. It's not about ESC, the world doesn't revolve around it. It's about having your song played on every radio for months, it's about getting invitations in tv shows, it's about launching a successful tour of live concerts. It's about building a career.

Ogni sua parola trasuda fastidio, snobismo, la volontà di guardarci dall'alto in basso. when will you learn that Sanremo has nothing to do with Eurovision? "Mahmood enough is enough". It's not enough because artists don't go to Sanremo with Eurovision in mind, at all. They go because Sanremo is the Super Bowl for us Italians, it's an honor for the artists to partecipate. Actually, she received 16% of the televote, the runner up received 60%, so it was the juries who chose her, not the general public. There was big big drama going on, right after covers' night, the fourth night, in which the final runner up won first place. Plus, the televote on the grand final was not working, I wasn't able to vote. Drama is still going on, we're Italians! 😂

You should also listen, and maybe react, to her cover of “La rondine”. This is the song of her father, a very famous singer in Italy, Pino Mango, who has passed away in 2014. She sang it in Sanremo in memory of her father and made cry an entire nation

In Italy Sanremo has an average share between 60 and 75% and only a few matches of the Italian national football team can beat it, while Eurovision doesn't even have the share of a South American soap opera, I write this to make you understand how the former is immensely more important than the second for the Italians. This year the final night had a peak of over 17 million viewers (almost a third of Italians) and *at 3 am it had over 90% share with 8,700,000 viewers* , Eurovision is not even remotely comparable to Sanremo!

I totally agree with you on the "recycling" issue, even before hearing a song of a comeback artist i cringe a bit at the thought of an artist who had such a great time or feel they haven’t fulfilled their Eurovision mission / dream that they wanna return for more.
