"If women are able to work they'll have more children" that makes absolutely no sense 🤔. Women work in Japan, Korea and China and their population is significantly shrinking. Most women in the workplace do not have kids because of their jobs. Working women even make coupling harder because they have significantly higher expectations from their men, ie if a woman is educated and high earning, she's definitely going to demand that her partner is either on her level or higher, thus reducing the amount of suitable partners ( or partners that they consider suitable).

Yeah that was a counterintuitive and strange statement. There are definitely other factors that play into an aging population and low fertility rate, I don't really see how less women in the workforce would lead to less children. Germany and Sweden might have better measures to incentivise both working women and making more children, and not have the same problems as Italy or Japan. One thing isn't necessarily the cause of the other.
@dekev7503

@@ehmzed I live in Germany, its just as bad. The Birth rate here is 1.53 babies per woman ( 2.1 is replacement rate and anything less is depletion) even with the very generous maternity programs that they have ( like 2 year government funded maternity leave), affordable healthcare, free education, etc. Unfortunately it seems like the less "empowered" women are, the more likely they are to prove their worth in society by doing the 1 thing that only they can do ( child bearing). The truth is that western countries were myopic in their fight for gender "equality". They pushed for women inclusion in the workplace and all but demonised traditional maternal roles. They also shamed masculinity, inadvertently making men less attractive to women. This has turned society on its head because women no longer find pride in motherhood and the ones that do aren't finding men worth starting families with.

Italian here... Basically another problem is the work prospective in Italy, for 40 hours every week the average salary is 850€, but if you are fresh from university is even worse like 500 or even 400 for a junior software dev. How can you have a future?. This is why most of the young people has or wants to leave Italy, inside my group of friends everyone has basically left, including myself.

Italy is old. It's a bureaucratic hell that is typical of old levantin system. Italy failed into sorting or at least reducing the gap between the more productive and dynamic North (especially Milan and Lombardia) and the inefficient, partially still rural and corrupted South administrated by some of the worst politicians on all UE. Italy has an insane level of taxation that keeps away most of new investors (apart from Milan, only exepction). Italy spends too little funds in reaserching and education system preferring wasting in unproductive welfare as "reddito di cittadinanza" (sort of universal credit) and unreasonably elitaristic high pensions or for unproductive burocrats of the State. Italy has still strong and economically invasive mafias in some areas of the country. Italy has always been birthplace of huge talent and creativity. Aside the Roman Empire, it has been the heart of the Reinassance, the country of the first bank and university, the land of great architects (from Palladio to Renzo Piano), painters, merchants and explorers (Cristopher Columbus, Marco Polo), designers, brands etc. but at the moment Italy doesn't almost have any significant initiative or innovation and most of its iconic companies have been bought by foreign groups or conglomarets. Honestly I can't see how this very particular country can rise up without a "drammatic" reform of its own structure...

Women able to work are in a position to have more children? How nonsense. Sure we are all superhuman, having children ,working, looking after school, house all!! What are men exactly for nowdatys since we do all! I am Italian, mum of three expat lived in Ireland, Germany and now Spain..I have more around 10 female cousins and 2 sisters, all childless. It is not work Finance related. It is a choice, out various circumstances ( separation, no partner, waiting too long) but a choice and it is culturally and the way they want to live related. Our society has created weak and superficial men and most people who are so into themselves that have no real willingness to give that up to sacrifice their ego to dedicate themselves entirely to someone else because that is being a mum and a parent. But in our society mums have a bigger burden than ever before because they to do it all literally( at least in the past the man was the financial provider and protector, now these weak men don't even do that). Mums have to do it all and society takes it completely for granted. Mums are literally slaves, often criticized, but raraly given any credit or solidarity. And people wonder why there are fewer children? I don't wonder at all. It is Christal clear. I bet the woman journalist of this news report have no children or decided very late to have one, two max. And she asks question to a men economist/ politician ?! just ask yourself and will get a more accurate picture of this reality

I think you have stated the truth of the problem. Most of the men in Italty cling to old notions of what a women should be, whereas most young Italian women choose not to be like their mums or grandmas .A similiar situation exists in Japan and South Korea, the young women are on a birth strike, and a lot of the young men have no interest in a relationship or being a parent.

My paternal and maternal great-grandparents were Italian and Portuguese who came to Brazil, I'm white, but neither Italy nor Portugal want me in their country. It's no use, they see us as animals because we were born on another continent, no matter their appearance or cultural similarity... They prefer immigrants from Africa and the Middle East... That's the truth! make it difficult for us to get a visa and make it easier for others. The process to obtain citizenship is expensive and time-consuming. Sure, here is the information about the Italian invasion of Libya in short: * Italy invaded Libya in 1911 for economic and strategic reasons. * The war lasted for two years and resulted in the deaths of about 80,000 to 100,000 Libyans and 5,000 Italians. * The Italians used brutal methods to suppress the Libyan resistance, including aerial bombardment, concentration camps, and public executions. * The war left a legacy of bitterness and resentment that continues to this day. Here are some key points: * The Italian invasion of Libya was a major turning point in Italian history. * The war marked the beginning of Italy's colonial rule in Libya, which lasted until 1943. * The war also left a legacy of bitterness and resentment that continues to this day. We will take revenge from you Italy one day. Keep It in mind. You treated very dirt way immigrants and some weeks ago more than 700 people were killed in a way of Italy. Your country don't help them
