Basic Italian pronunciation is easy, thanks to Italian being a mostly phonetic language (and probably helped by the fact I already speak English, Dutch, and German). The tricky part is figuring out which syllable needs to be stressed, I've found that if a word looks similar in other languages, I usually get it wrong because the stress in Italian is on a different syllable. Example: the word for 'microphone.' In English the stress is on the first syllable (MIcrophone), in Dutch and German it's on the last syllable (microFOON / microFON), but in Italian it's on the second syllable (miCROfono).

Ciao Scott! Yes, it is tricky😅 But if you listen often to content in Italian, your ears will get used to how the words sound! Thank you for your comment, we appreciate having you on board 🤩

I am in the Beginners Course in Unit 6 and the video of your recipe, which, by the way looks delicious. And I am having a hard time keeping up with some of the grammar. We have not had any lessons to do with some of it. So, I decided to dive deeper and figure it out more. So I am using the Verb Conjugator, online dictionary, etc. to do that and I already started my own "Italian Vocabulary" Word document. So I just added another section for the video. And figuring out which are verbs, adjectives, nouns, expressions, etc and listing them accordingly by those categories with the conjugations, masculine/feminine/plural, etc. So hopefully one of these days I will really get it. I want to dream in Italian ;-) Thanks so much Manu for helping me to get there. Grazie.

Manu! Your lessons are AMAZING! I feel like I will eventually be fluent and be able to write Italian….but I am starting to panic! I have 42 days before I arrive in Lucca🙈I feel like I wasted 2 months with Rosetta Stone (I feel it taught me to read Italiano but I had to simultaneously use my phone to translate because it didn’t tell me what I was reading, which was a pain! Your lessons are FANTASTIC but I need to a suggestion on what to focus on because ITS CRUNCH TIME and I am no where near ready to communicate in Italiano….do you have a lesson of just vocabulary/words? Fork, spoon, shoe, coat, napkin LOL words for in restaurant, at a B&B, directions on the street - words Manu words 🙏🏼😘🙏🏼

@@j-view3858 Instead of listening to news and movies, why don't you get flash cards or a vocabulary book and keep repeating rhe words again and again, while doing your chores etc? Or why not spend a few hours each day totally focusing on vocabulary. How else do you expect to learn quickly? There's not shortcut to learning a language. Especially vocabulary.

With due respect, I disagree that passive (mindless) immersion is "the only way to learn Italian," as you say. I know plenty of people who have moved to the US and have lived here for decades, who have made no effort to learn English. They hear English all day and night around them, but they can hardly speak a word, because they never studied, and they never listen with desire to learn. Passive ANYTHING is never a good way. My opinion.
@italymadeeasy
@italymadeeasy Жыл бұрын
ciao Darren! Sure, we agree with you! We don't mean that immersion is "the only way to learn Italian" meaning that doing immersion is enough and BOOM - you speak Italian! We mean that you can't learn a language only from books and grammar drills - you need to expose yourself to the language and practise immersion! So, in our experience, practising immersion is the only way... but paired up with all the other tools available! 😊

You must have not seen or forgotten that during the first few episodes/videos, Manu did stress that actually studying is necessary, and that passive immersion is a way to trick your brain into thinking about Italian, and train your brain to recognize the rhythm and melody of the language so that learning pronunciation is in fact easier.

I think it's just a thing to do as a "stop gap" if you are going about your day and don't have a list of Italian words to look up or any text. This way you can keep practicing pronunciation. I think it could be very hard to do this...Manu is right, you're fighting your brain trained in English.
