Here's Nina being all gentle with the Phal roots. Here's me (pick any orchid): just going to push this root until it bends back into the pot. Oops, I cracked it. Oh well, the growing tip is in the pot now.🤣

Don Miguel 🥰💐 hola jefe!! I am as gentle as I can be, circumstances and my stubbornness permitting 😬 I have taken a root that was going out of the pot, and bent it into the pot, risking the crack, but while in active growth I doubt that the growing tip would stop growing. The root is still nice and the tip was not bashed in the process, so, a small crack in the velamen was well worth the risk ...lucky! 😆 growing tips in pots are important and when we get away with it, we walk off proud... at least I do 😬 thank you so much for watching, amigo!! I may need to set up the umbilical cord tonight because it has been chucking down relentlessly for the past 3 hrs. The clock is ticking before the fuse pops!! Really appreciate your support, Michael! Thank you so much for all you do 🙏🏼❤️ hope your day was beautiful ❤️🌸

@@NinjaOrchids I sure could use some rain here. It has rained ONCE since Ian, and that was when Nicole went by. They aren't calling for a single drop at all this month. If it was cool, wouldn't be a big deal. But when it is hot and (relatively) not humid, that's a different animal. I have plants in pots that are drying out in less than a day and it is annoying. I'm going to hope you don't have to resort to an umbilical cord, maybe you will get lucky.

Hi Nina, this is nothing to do with this video, but I just wanted to say I finally managed to watch a replay of your last live stream.(well not all of it because it went a bit too long even though I stopped and started several times). It was nice to be able to put a face to Sharon & Julie and how I wish you would allow us to put a face to Nina as well. I know you did give your reasons at the very beginning and I respect that, but just a quick peak would be nice. Ha Ha! So now back to the length of the streams, IMO only I would prefer them to not be so long. I look forward to seeing your next stream although in my situation it has to be watching the replay, which is ok with me anyway.

Renate, hi 😍💐 I am on videos for the Orchid Ninjas. When I post videos for them, I am on camera. I have as yet to film another video for them, but yes... behind the scenes, I am on camera. I do not see my self doing any facial appearances on the public side of KZbin until maybe I get to 50k subscribers. I would say that... should I get my channel to that size, it would be a time to have a celebration and post a video thanking everyone. Until then 😬 Orchid Ninjas have to put up with my visage 🤪😅 the streams are open ended, depending on the subject and how interactive those participating are in the stream. I pick topics that would go for an hour, IF no one joins me, but, if I have a guest on, then the length of the streams will depend on the guest sharing their topic, their orchids... tips, rabbit holes etc. I get a feel for when a topic has been exhausted when I have a guest on and then shut the stream down. However, I look at it this way, I have a guest in my home, I am entertaining them, we have a chat and a visit, and I cut the visit short because they may have 'outstayed their welcome'. That is not how I want anyone to feel if they are on the panel with me. Meanwhile... here is a little sneaky info... after I closed the stream down, Sharon San, Julie San and I talked for another 2,5 hours 😂 I went to bed at 5 am 😂 I do appreciate that you had a look see at the stream and of course, it is my intention to be informative and stick to the topic, as well as answer any questions from those in the chat. When and where I can, I will add timestamps into the description to make navigating the stream better on a replay. Hope you are doing well, Renate! That you are enjoying beautiful and agreeable temperatures ❤️🌸

Hi Samantha 🤩💐 so kind of you to also watch this video, thank you so much! I agree with what you are saying here, and before I had my channel, I was always thinking noooooo, don't repot straight away!! Even if the orchid is going back into bark etc mix. The orchid, no matter which one, is so stressed out, usually blooming as well... best to work with the state of the media in the pot and adjust pH if the media is old, and then wait for new roots. When I started growing orchids in pots, I too was too concerned about getting orchids cleaned up and learned the hard way that I had set many back for no reason AND worst case, I lost orchids because they could not cope with the added stressors. This orchid, even though rescued from the hot pavement of the August sun by the dumpster in 2022, is STILL in her old media, we came through the winter together, and now I am waiting for the right time to pot her into my preferred set up. So, yes... best to leave them, let them settle down. There is plenty of time to take care of the orchid at a later stage 👍🏼🌸

Sopressa superba! She looks so happy and content with you as her caretaker. Well done Nina! I was dying with laughter @ Michael McCarthy's comment. I suspect him and I could put a pretty good horror orchid repot video and frighten the most steadfast repotters. 😂 I do try though not to crack roots buuuuut.. it happens. They survive Robi's School of Hard Knocks. After that 5 hour saga Zygo transition and extricating small bark and moss the more recent Miltonia regnellii was handled a little quicker with ninja 'git 'er done attitude. The upside is when roots abound and downside when wanting to transition from organic to inorganic medias. I ended up cutting the bottom third off. Decided I'd wait out the recovery time. 😥 It's been fantastic catching up on all the videos I've missed. Loved the Hibiki repot too! Thank you Nina! 🙏☺

Hi Robi 😍💐 she certainly is taking off! I doubt that all the spikes are stress spikes as well. Just making sure that that is not the case. Now, I have her indoors without airflow, soaking wet and am hoping that my rain gamble will not backfire! 🤞🏼 with the shuffling I have to do, I have already cracked several roots, Robi, so... I am enrolling in Robi's School of Hard Knocks! There is a whole perimeter of pot, where to I have to bump up against? That tiny mm of space where a root is venturing out. It really annoys me, but it is part and parcel of what happens now that I am moving them around as and when they can go outside. I am sure that the recovery will go faster than you expect, Robi, because, it is Miltonia time and the conditions are working in the orchid's favor. Hakuna matata... just watch, the cooler temps and root growth, and everything should be fine 👍🏼👍🏼 thank you so very much for taking the time to watch the other videos as well. Hibiki... I was circling that orchid for months, just wondering how I would go about it. So, I had plenty of time to get my plan figured out, and so happy that it went according to plan 👍🏼 thank you for your support 🥰 you are so appreciated 🙏🏼 hope your day was fantastic... and that what is left of it, will be nice and cozy ❤️🌸

So apropos! Should have waited! I had some neos that were just in limbo. In pots with little media and I would simply mist daily while looking and waiting for some signs of growth, but alas I attempted to perform kokedama on 2 today. That's a fairly rough repot and transition. Was thinking there would be at least some media around the roots. Prolly killed them! That sidewalk find surely is showing how thankful it is. Yay!
@NinjaOrchids
@NinjaOrchids Жыл бұрын
HI WanderingBob 🤩💐 it depends!! Neos are usually resting this time of year, so you may get away with it! Different to an orchid that is a continuous grower, like this phal. If there is a good time to do a set up change on an orchid, it is during it's resting phase... (dendrobiums NOT included) but neos... seeing as the media stays dry for the most part, it is not a bad thing to go ahead and do what you did! Intuition lead you 🤗👍🏼 I doubt very much that you killed them! 😉 I am proud of the progress of this phal, that is for sure! She is a keeper...my little ugly duckling 🥰 thank you so much for watching, WanderingBob!! I sure appreciate your support and time. Hope that your Monday was fabulous 🥰🌸

FFF 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 good evening, meine liebe Freundin!! I wonder if I am going to get through replying to you before the electricity is going to go out 🔌 I have unwound the extension cord, moved some furniture to access things easier, because... it has been pouring down for several hours after a small break in the rain earlier today. We have had a lot of great rain and the orchids outside are loving it, but I am apprehensive. I have everything charged that I can think of.... ready to run out into the rain in the dark to connect to the other house. I have also started a spread sheet of when it connect, and for how long. I told my landlord that... I do not expect an electricity bill for the days or weeks that I have this inconvenience. We shall see. Also for my lawyer... I am keeping records of everything now. Its as if I am teasing the timing, because I am still typing! But, I appreciate you ... so, I am not rushing through the reply, even thought I want to disconnect my computer from the electricity source, just to be safe. I would love to know who owned her before, so that they could see this happening with Sorpressa. I am truly proud of her recovery. Not getting complacent though, because we are not out of the woods yet. None of my orchids are out of the woods yet. Many months to go 🤪 thank you so very much for watching, for your support!! @NinjaOrchids
@NinjaOrchids Жыл бұрын
I KNEW I saw a comment from you 🌸🥷🏼🔎👀😅 she can bloom on all of the spikes if she continues to extend the roots. If she stops the root growth before they are long enough, then I will only allow one spike to bloom, just so that we can get the color reveal video, after which, the spike is coming off. Temperatures could also be the reason for the roots to stop growing, but still... no matter why they stop growing the energy directed towards the spikes can be saved. Much better for her. 👍🏼👍🏼 was that what you were thinking? 😃

After repositioning... wouldn't 'mounding up' the Lecca.. under the new roots, to encourage downward growth?
@NinjaOrchids
@NinjaOrchids Жыл бұрын
HI 😍💐 yes... that would also work. However, I am more the kind of person to let the roots grow down and then once they have the length that makes them disappear into the media, I prefer to fill up around them, leveling up the leca like that. I want to monitor the roots in case they stop growing because of the weather conditions, and cooler temperatures. If it were summer, then those would be covered in leca, for sure 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching 🥰 I hope that your day is already off to a great start 🙏🏼❤️🌸

Hi Nanette 🤩💐 welcome!! I have not seen you here before, so first of all, a warm warm welcome and thank you so much for being here, watching the video, and leaving a comment 🤗 I really appreciate it 🤗 no need to worry if you have repotted your's. Ensuring that she does not get into low temperatures that she does not like, or gets too little light to continue with the vegetative growth, she will be fine. Back when I was using my grow space installations, with lights on and some heat mats on the go, I did repots like these because I could maintain the climate to the orchid's liking. So, if you have that in place, then... she will be fine 👍🏼👍🏼 I have my orchids in perpetual darkness atm, because we are having back to back overcast days, and I do not have heat in my grow space, so... that is when it is best to NOT repot. I always say, wait for new roots and then repot... when I saw this happening, I thought it best to put out a video that determines when it is NOT a good thing to repot even though all the green light signals are there. Yes, I am from Kenya 🌍 and I used to have friends at school that were in Malawi. You chose the right climate to live in after being in Africa, because, even though I am in Spain, the weather is NOT orchid climate from November - March and sometimes April. I believe I will loose a few more this winter. It is survival of the fittest situation and we shall see who comes out on top. It is good to meet another fellow expat here 😃 thank you so much!! Desire, hi 😍💐 I am so sorry to hear that your orchid has no roots left when you just got it. If you have more than 5 structures, she will be ok. If you have 3 structures without a new growth starting,... baby her with plenty of light and nice warm surroundings and she may pull through 🤞🏼 Ett. are tough cookies, they can handle a situation like this. Great info! Just making sure: the stable 20°C is 24h and not only the 10h light period with lower night temperatures, right? And how long do these temperatures need to remain like this? For example, would this need to last 3 weeks/1 months/3 months/longer? Or would that be dependent on the orchid type? I’m thinking I should probably make a little reference list with the minimum potting temps for my orchids to refer to. Thanks again for a great video
@NinjaOrchids
@NinjaOrchids Жыл бұрын
Hi Blais 🥰💐the 20ºC temperature reference is for the lowest temperature. The days can be higher, but if repotting happens at a time that the conditions do NOT guarantee 20ºC throughout the night, even if the days are warm, then that is what it refers to. If the conditions indoors are 20ºC day and night, that is fine, as long as there is not drop below the 20ºC. For at least 2 months, after the repot, more is better, but at least 2 months post repotting. I would like to stay on the safe side, and say, this applies to all orchids. Especially the warm growers. With any other orchid, their happy lowest temperature should not be breached when a repot is considered and the conditions are not ideal. Reference list was in the live where we talked about the relationship of temperature and humidity. The breakdown of cool / cold growers, intermediate and warm growers. Most of the time, the care guides only reference those 2 categories but do not give any temperature reference, so, to break their minimums down, Cool lowest temp is 10ºC, intermediate lowest temp is 15ºC and warm lowest temp is 20ºC (even though I state 18ºC in my live, which would be fine, but in that live I was not talking about repotting an orchid, so if you were to look back at that stream and see that chart, that is why there is a difference here, to what I am saying now 😬 I hope that I did not confuse things further with this reply! Thank YOU so much for watching and for your support, Blais!! I so appreciate it 🤗 hope you had a wonderful day 🌸

@NinjaOrchids
@NinjaOrchids Жыл бұрын
Hi Richard 😍💐 yes, it is possible the that happens. Even without having manually added ads to this video, YT will place ads regardless. I am able to manipulate the amount of ads on a video IF I choose to do so, however, I don't use that option because I do not want people to think that I am exploiting their time. So, YT places ads at their discretion and the amount as well. There was a time when I manually put ads in my videos, in places that were not disruptive to the viewer or the flow of the video, and it ended up that YT added more ads than I had positioned, so, I stopped the manual manipulation of ads to avoid things doubling up 🤷🏼‍♀️ trying to be fair, but YT isn't playing ball 🙄

do the roots outside the pot not dry up, or how to keep them moist all the time please
@NinjaOrchids
@NinjaOrchids 4 ай бұрын
HI Cheryl 😍💐 it is so good to see you! I hope you are doing well 🫶🏼 the roots outside of the pot can dry up, and it will happen if the humidity is too low, or the water quality is bad which will destroy the velamen. However, roots have a life cycle and they do not grow continuously. Sometimes they stop growing at the tip because the orchid is focussing on other things, like growing a spike, or a new leaf, or it is just resting. So, to keep them moist all the time is not always a good thing. If you have humidity that averages 70%, then the aerial roots will be just fine because they pull the moisture from the air. If it gets very hot and the humidity drops to approx 30%, with good airflow, it is ok to mist the aerial roots, however, because the velamen has a different characteristic when not growing in the pot, they won't absorb the water, which is absolutely fine. They can handle low humidity. Even if they are in active growth, low humidity may stop the aerial roots from growing, but they will not dry up. I have 30% humidity average in my climate, I do not always mist my aerial roots and they have never dried up because of not getting water. Not sure if this helps? Let me know if there is something I did not address properly! Meanwhile, thank you so much for watching, Cheryl! Truly appreciate your support and I wish you a fabulous day 🫶🏼❤️🌸

Hi Ninja, What if I just received the orchids from delivery now in April, should I wait until June to repot them and let them be in tight Spagnum pots for now? Thanks ❤🎉

Hi BK 😍💐 congratulations on your new arrivals!! I hope that you are happy with them 🥳 if they are not actively growing new roots, then yes, wait for as long as it takes to see new root growth or, actively growing root tips in the pot, that may include branching of the existing root system. If you would like to have peace of mind for the coming weeks, possibly months, the check out this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYHMhIiro5Wkm8k where I talk about how to tide orchids over in their existing media even if we don't like the media, if we think it may be old etc etc. The roots in the pot are used to that and any repot is going to change the environment around them which will probably cause them to collapse because they are going into media that is 'different' in consistency and moisture retention. Please let me know if you have any questions moving forward. I know that it can be concerning not to repot because our instinct is to give the roots a nice fresh start. That however can pose more issues than just leaving them be and wait. I have an orchid that I received back in Nov. 23 and still have not repotted it because it is a) acclimating which could have caused it to stall b) not growing new roots. I am going by the principle that I talk about in the linked video. Thank you so much for watching this video. I hope you are already having a fabulous day 🫶🏼❤️🌸

@@NinjaOrchids hi Ninja, omg why KZbin didnt notify me with your answer?!?! I thought all this time that you never replied me, so I just went with my instincts and repotted them. I feel regret now.🥲 But i tried my best to help them adjust by turning on grow light 12 hours and moving them in the my bedroom which temperature is over 20 celsius almost all the time. I hope my new orchids will thrive and their initial flower spikes will grow. Is there a way that I can send you photos? But if you can’t, I totally understand. I know you must be busy. Thanks so much and have a wonderful day. ☺️
