In this episode I have to go and change my plans. Instead of riding dirt roads towards Sossusvlei, I am riding the main highway of Namibia so I can make it to the capital city Windhoek. One of my fork seals is blown and I'm leaking fork oil everywhere. I decide to have the fork seal replaced before I get into more shenanigans in the Namib Desert!

I'm an African .I see my brothers and sisters who are obsessed with materialism...He e Gucci this,Louis Vuitton that...There is a young lady having loads of fun on a 🏍 ...Water...just a few snacks...and educating us on some places we haven't been.Sometimes people waste precious energy on useless stuff. This is nice .I watch most of her videos cause I see wonderful places...It's very refreshing...Thank you so much...

I really like the lack of drama. Many other channels would have had " Savanna bleeding out in the middle of the desert. I can't continue. Is this the end?" I much prefer "Slight change of plans. Just nipping off on a 1000km detour for a bit of maintenence. Keep calm and carry on. Oh look Giraffes!" :-)

It's easy to take a nut from each wheel if needed in a pinch but the bolts on those are typically pressed into the rotor and a pretty big job to remove. Plus it seemed stripped out on the one giving them trouble but we can only speculate. EDIT: The bolts are actually studs to be clear.

Surely some will criticize the fact that you did not fix the shock absorber before, but those who really travel by motorbike know that there are a thousand variables and things to keep under control. Especially if while traveling alone you are also working, telling and filming everything. And often it is not possible to bring everything you need to fix everything. You also stopped to help those people in the car 👏 unfortunately not everyone does. You are a great inspiration and it is wonderful to see how you face every little or big difficulty with a smile and with the desire to move forward no matter what, and above all regardless of what others may think. 💪

The way to fix a situation like that where you have stripped wheel lugs is to remove each hub one-by-one and then, using a hammer, knock out one lug and then put the hub back on. That way, you end up with three good lugs on every wheel. Then you drive easy until you get to the next town where you can purchase new lugs with nuts and have a mechanic restore the three wheels with three lugs and replace all lugs in the wheel that had been damaged. It takes a lot of time when you're on the road like that to accomplish the job but it's effective. If you don't have a hammer, put a nut on the lug flush to the outside of the lug and use the lug wrench to knock the lug out. driving the lugs back in is easy. Probably the most difficult part is removing each hub in order to drive out the needed lug.

Noraly's definition of boring trip would be quite the adventure for most of us. Besides, Noraly could make paint drying interesting with her positive attitude and subject matter knowledge! 😉

tech tip for everyone driving their car in these remote places: if/when your bolts/nuts/wheel studs have stripped or damaged thread try to find a piece of electric wire inside the car. Strip the wire to get some of the copper strands out. Use those copper strands to wrap/wind around the damaged thread of the strut or bolt. Then screw the damaged bolt with the copper strands wound around it back in to fix the wheel. The copper is a soft metal and will deform and fill the voids left when the steel threads got damaged. Don't over tighten the bolt or nut. But this temporary fix will get you to the next workshop. This temporary fix also works for sparkplugs and oil pan plugs. If you really want to be prepared for this kind of situation you could also put a rol of copper TAPE in your emergency tool kit just for situations like the red pickup truck had to deal with. The tape will do the same job.

Hi Itchy, yes you are so right always prioritise a problem like fork seals as that could be very dangerous very quickly. Wow what a nice bloke and a good mechanic to boot well done. Jon🇦🇺

Noraly, loving your vids and am now addicted to watching them. Some info for any future rides, if a fork seal starts to drip oil get a coke bottle and cut out a triangle piece about 2" long, push it down the fork tube point first into the seal and turn it around the seal a few times, this will remove any grit from the seal and make it last a bit longer.

I hope you had the seals replaced in both forks, if one is leaking the other will be soon. I can't believe the guy didn't recommend dust boots for the forks, especially in that environment. Good Luck

Noraly you won’t get to read this but...if you get a damaged thread on wheel nuts in the desert there is a temporary fix to get you into town. Strip a rag down to individual loose threads. Wind a thread (or 2 twisted into thicker cord) then wind the cotton onto the damaged part. Being careful to wind the right way around. Then wind the nut carefully back on capturing the cotton as a packing all the way in. The wheel spanner will prove when it gets tight and you can get going. If the nut is stripped on the inside you can take one good nut of another wheel which is good enough to get into town..in the old days when water pipes were made of iron plumbers would pack the threads with hemp.

Who are these people that go out of their way to dislike these excellent videos without leaving any feedback? I just don't get it, if you didn't enjoy it, you should at least comment as to why you hit the Dislike Button. I can honestly say i have never enjoyed a video series more than Noraly's travelogues, they are just amazing

What stunning landscape. I think the most beautiful scenery encountered on "our" journey thus far... though our ride in the volcanic area of Chile was spectacular, as well. And then there was our exploration of the coast of southeastern South America......and Sani Pass. And Norway was so stunning so.. well carry on. Woo hoo. Got my buff ordered yesterday!!!

as a retired motocycle mechanic, ( re living the good times i had in the trade ) i would have replaced the seals on both forks aswell as the dust seals and the oil in both sides at the same time, i know it's an extra cost but it makes both sides the same and balanced, hopefully you won't be replacing any more in the near future, great video by the way, looking forward to more of your vlogs.
