I have a variety of filters, none need power of any kind. I also have waer treatment tablets. if I need to I can put together a "bucket Berkey" with the 2 filter elements I have plus spigot and priming pump and 2 dedicated buckets for it. I don't have additional filters for that but I do hope to get some in thenear future

the following applies to reverse osmosis too: Gravity filters are designed to remove certain pathogens from perfectly clear water such a mountain stream. If there is any silt in the water they will plug up and not allow water to flow through. You can scrub the cartridge, but soon you will reduce the thickness of the media and then it will not remove pathogens. YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST PRE-FILTER THE WATER UNTIL IT IS PERFECTLY CLEAR. This can be done by a combination of settling, flocculation, sand filtering, and/or common cartridge type sediment filters that are easily available. If you don't believe this, take out all but one of your ceramic cartridges, plug the other holes, add some dirty water like what you will have to use during a crisis, see how long it takes to plug up your ceramic cartridge. You will ruin one cartridge but you will know the truth! Another issue: if there is water in a ceramic cartridge, even a little, and that cartridge is allowed to freeze, a fine crack can occur that will allow pathogens through. You may not know it as you cannot see the crack. NEVER ALLOW YOU CARTRIDGES TO FREEZE!

Sorry, but you probably shouldn't use the waste stream of a reverse osmosis system to wash the dishes. If they are present, bacteria and viruses are concentrated in the waste stream. I hate to be a wet blanket, but that unit does not appear to function like a true RO uni, at least any I am familiar with. I don't know the system and never heard of the company, so I would have to do a lot of research. I am in municipal water treatment and wastewater treatment with over 30+ years experience. The industry has changed so much and too many players in the game now days from China to know the good from the bad without lab tests. Just glancing over the details on their web site, there are a few red flags for me.

After you are done filtering water you turn the system back on to run all the water in the system out of the system before you store it do you happen to know what the best way to store the machine (and used filters) would be after each use to avoid mold? Is it best to remove the filters and let them air out before storage, or should the filters remain inside the machine while being stored, even if it's for several months at a time? This would be good to know for people who only plan on using it for camping, or emergency situations.

I just got some more portable water filters today. They are hand pump, so no batteries needed. I also use gravity filters, also no power needed.

What type of hand pump filters?

@@bman55bsbeats84 FS TFC, through Amazon. I unpacked them, and they look like good quality. For primary, I get Berkey style replacement replacement filters, with 5 gal buckets. There are videos to show how to do it yourself.

I have 3 5gal. bucket stacks with ceramic dome filters in them with prefilters prior to adding water into them......... I have several good water sources on my property .....hoping between these or boiling in batches that will be enough......we carry grayls in our packs and chlorine also
@MrOldclunker7 ай бұрын
We have multiple springs that flow hundreds of gallons a minute in our area. They have been flowing since the settlers, guess they will long after we annihilate each other.

@@ChefPrepper I looked at it but was confused about the different filters. There seem to be a few kinds. Which filters should we get?
@ChefPrepper7 ай бұрын
@@gratefulprepsnj The filter uses a Hybrid Filter for the initial filtering and a Reverse Osmosis Filter for the purification. The unit itself comes with both filters when you buy one. The hybrid filters are good for about 300-400 gallons and the Reverse Osmosis Filters are good for 600-800 gallons. So the Reverse Osmosis Filter last twice as long. So, if you were going to buy replacement filters one Hybrid would probably be needed for the life on the RO filter. So, in my understand it will take 2 Hybrid filters for each RO Filter. Hope that helps.

Cool video. Does anyone know about how long the filters last?
@oldbloke2047 ай бұрын
I worked in irrigation for many years and filters, even very large setups, will block extremely quickly depending on what's in the water. Clay type particulates will coat filters for example. I've yet to see anyone actually use these types of things in various water quality scenarios even though I've seen a few of these now. If I was using something like this I would be filtering water through something like cotton cloth first or letting it settle out before filtering until I knew what it could cope with.

@@oldbloke204brilliant insight. Thank you
@stex19857 ай бұрын
@@kevindutton3676the trick is,if you are forced to use questionable water. Remove water from source let it settle as much as time allows. Examine the settled water visually. No oily film floating and no peculiar smells then filter that water. From the top two thirds and discard the bottom third.

Looks like an awesome product thank you. Would you not have to boil water to drink it using this product? In your opinion?
@ChefPrepper7 ай бұрын
No boiling wouldn't be necessary after going through a Reverse Osmosis filter.
