I can understand why people would think Tavi overreacted, but based on their conversation I wouldn't be surprised if the context had Vinyl make a lot of empty promises to her, like to the point where she just got sick of getting her hopes up. Maybe she's someone who values quality time in a friendship and didn't feel like she was getting that anymore or maybe that was just the last straw since she probably stressed how important that show was for her and Vinyl just forgot again. I know they're both musicians with supposedly big careers with busy schedules, but if that's the case, why say you'll go (I'm assuming Vinyl said she would based on the dialogue) if that may not be the case? I don't know if I'd say cutting her off was the best reaction, but I can understand it. At the same time though this is like a 4 minute animation for a spinoff of another song that doesn't really establish many other parts of their relationship. So who knows?

Ya know hearing this again it makes me realize that Octavia was overreacting. Sure she has an important career but so does Vinyl. I think she should’ve understood that she can’t be there always because stuff comes up and we can be forgetful at times. She’s mad all over her missing another concert? I would be disappointed too but if they have something important to do then I’ll understand. Especially if they offered to take me to my favorite restaurant as an apology. You don’t just end a friendship over a concert. I just think Octavia was in the wrong and should have been more understanding.

I totally see your point, but I believe that the important here is background context. Yes, missing a friend's concert/presentation more than once, when you're a very busy person yourself, is totally understandable, and they can totally do other things together. It sucks, but it's not the end of the world and it's expected in that case. But Octavia has presumably had more than a few of these. If this happened one too many times (especially in a row which seems to be the implication), I think it's understandable to start being a little peeved. Things like a concert can be a pretty big deal to someone and it's clear this in particular was a critical moment to Octavia, and those things are where you most prove to a friend that you care whether you realize it or not. It's different for everyone, but it's important to spot these things because they can make a person feel very unloved when you consistently fail at them. There is always a moment where in a friendship you do have to bite the bullet to be there for them, and maybe that sometimes means having to adjust something or sacrificing some time you're working on other things to spend just a moment with them. If it was a long concert I wouldn't have blamed Vinyl for being there for just a moment/song and leaving but the important thing is showing you can make that effort still for something that a person needs in that moment, it can't always be postponed. Vinyl can probably get away with asking for some time to do something else before getting to work, unless it's something absolutely time-sensitive. Some things aren't as earth-shattering as we like to think. It does definitely sound like Octavia's decision was rash, an overreaction she'd probably come to regret later, but it sounds perfectly understandable to react poorly to what feels like someone always having something more important than you to do, even if the other person doesn't feel it that way. (Maybe in the reverse situation, "attendance" kind of things really don't matter to Vinyl and that's why she doesn't see it as a big deal, in which case, it's a miscommunication issue, but that's a bit besides the point). That's just my two cents anyway.

@@scribblecloud Because I like analyzing things! Oh, yeah. That's a nice detail actually. Octavia felt like Vinyl was just blowing her off for sure, but it's (in theory) an irrational reaction. She said it was fine and then got upset when Vinyl actually acted like it was. Painfully realistic. Still, that ties back into what I said, about the communication issues, namely because honesty is hard. We're taught early on to hide our true feelings in order to maintain the "peace" even when it hurts our relationships in the long run. It's frustrating, but of course if she says it's fine, Vinyl technically has no reason not to just...Move on. Octavia should've just steeled herself and actually said it was hurting her, and then they could've actually worked something out, and it would've been on Vinyl too to make sure she actually took this into consideration. Only then can you actually place blame on someone for not listening to you, but otherwise it's your fault for not speaking up in the first place. Sure, it's rarely that easy to get used to doing this, but it is an ideal that we should strive for.

Day by day I think the world is nothing but unintelligent, and that all the hope is in the past. But it's things like this that burn into my brain, reminding me constantly that I'm not the ONLY person who realizes how small and short this life is. Do you ever notice how whatever you're doing right now, it'll be like it never happened because you know you'll be in the next day before you know it, thinking back on how you though of the next day. And now you're there, realizing how quickly time DOES go by. That applies to life too. By the time you're staring death in the face, you'll look back and remember that time you though of staring death in the face, and you realize it seems like it was yesterday. Time is non-explainable, but it is understandable.

Daniel King There's an ironic truth to the statement "Live each day to its fullest", given how cliche it is. I can remember being in high school, thinking that I couldn't wait to graduate and grow up, and now that I'm here, all I want is that time back. But we don't get to go back, and that's hard to remember sometimes. Often times life gets in the way and we forget to appreciate the "small" things. I'm convinced that most people never really think about just how fast life goes by unless you bring it up to them, and that's why you see so few comments about it on places like this. They're just watching another video in a long line of videos; spending another 5 minutes without even really noticing it. Honestly, I do this so often that it terrifies me. Also, it's kinda depressing to a lot of people. Many of them don't like facing the idea that one day everything they know will be gone. Mortality is scary for most people, but to me it's all the more reason to appreciate what you have NOW. The situation you're in NOW. Plan for tomorrow, live for today, and remember the past. And hug everyone you love every chance you get.

+RachelCop Listen. I've done the same thing. No, maybe our friends don't deserve us, especially if we keep hurting them. They deserve better, right? Friendship is never perfect. What friendship is... it's a mutual acceptance. A few people saying "Yep, we're all screwed up, but I'm gonna choose to like you anyway." Yeah. Our friends deserve better. But you know what? They chose you, out of thousands or millions of other people. To them, you are 'better'. Sure, there are mistakes that we make that can hurt our friends badly. We make them because we are human. We are born to mess up and fail. So, when you make another mistake and hurt your friends, go to them and tell them how bad you feel, and ask for their forgiveness. If your friendship is strong, if you and your friend care about each other, I'd bet that your friend will understand and forgive you. Once they do that, then take that bad feeling, that guilt in your heart, and throw it as far as you can, because you don't need to carry it around anymore.

I can see Vinyl fighting with the bouncer until they end up bursting through the door, fighting and rolling over the floor, ruining the concert. It'll seem like it just made things worse, but at the end Octavia will forgive Vinyl for the effort she went to to get inside. Predictable plot, but you can't argue with a classic.
