Cascadilla gorge and its waterfall were my favorite. They are right in the middle of the city, connecting the commons and collegetown. The hike up and down takes about 30 minutes and that is one of the most magnificent daily workout routines a person can have. I have lived in 3 countries but nothing comes close to the experience of being able to hike a beautiful gorge every day before dinner. The steepness was perfect for my cardio. Sometimes I ended the trail with a nice dinner in the commons or collegetown. It was such a great time of my life. I really miss Ithaca.

I have lived in Ithaca my whole life (69 yrs) except for short periods of time away. Whenever I am away I yearn to see Cayuga's waters again! Head for Ithaca College campus on South Hill for a spectacular view of Cayuga Lake. If you retire here you will have lots to do. Ithaca is a college town with Cornell University and Ithaca College students everywhere! Much of the Ithaca culture is centered around student activities. The students will try to get you as an older adult to participate in their research studies and use you as their lab rat!...mostly questions, questions, questions and more questions. Participating in the research studies can be fun as well as informative. Some studies pay for your participation which is a perk! Lots of free concerts and lectures and festivals. We have thought about renaming Ithaca to Festiva because there is a festival or two or three for every season. Housing in Ithaca is expensive. As a senior I had to get into subsidized housing to make it on a retirement income. Crime is becoming more of an issue...just like in other cities. Ithaca is Gorges! Don't miss it.

I'm a native Californian and just saw Ithaca on a television show. It is "gorges"! Would I be able to handle winters there?

@@micheleanderson2710 The winter season could be challenging for someone from California. Ithaca is usually not as wintery as the rest of the state since we are in southern New York closer to Pennsylvania. Our Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons make up for the cold winter months!

How the housing for families?

You forgot the reason Ithaca exists... Cornell. Without Cornell Ithaca would have dried up more than a century ago, shrunk as a city and would be a small village with beautiful surroundings like Watkins Glen or Seneca Falls.

I still don't get why people associate Taughannock Falls with Ithaca NY?? It's not located in within the City limits nor is it even located in the Town of Ithaca. It's in the Town of Ulysses in Trumansburg, NY.
