In Mexico we call it “POSADAS”. It’s exactly the same process of caroling going through the neighborhood and singing and asking for lodging. Getting denied until they are accepted and food is passed to all those who are singing. And also during the Christmas season
@FluffyWhisperCloud9 күн бұрын
I was just about to say that! We did that in our neighborhood when I lived en el D.F.

Thank you for the talk about how when you’re trying something new with makeup and it doesn’t turn out or go well “it’s just practice” tried something new yesterday and it apparently according to people around me “looked like you were beaten up” which rather hurt my feelings but this made feel better

Oh, I actually only just remembered, the Mari Lwyd legend was kind of like the first ever rap battles 😂 It'd sing to you through the door in rhyme, and you had to rhyme back through the door. This rhyming battle would continue back and forth until such a time as either you would win, or Mari Lwyd would. If you won, Mari Lwyd would leave to rhyme at someone else and you could return to enjoying your festivities. If Mari Lwyd won though, you had to let it inside and it wouldn't leave until it had eaten all of the food in the house and drunk all of your beer/ale. I have no idea what was supposed to happen if you had no food or ale, though. Perhaps in that case it just wouldn't show up at your place to begin with.

This is actually a cultural celebration in Mexico, it’s been around for centuries, it pays respect and celebration to the love ones that had passed. Dia de Los Muertos. It’s crazy how welsh and Mexico is so similar when celebrating the dead.

The white, green and red made me think of the Mexican flag and, accordingly, Catrina make-up. On a human, the sheet looks reminiscent of a nun as well, which fits with the catholicism there. Funny, serendipidous crossover in my mind.

Ohh I loved this. It's also called a selkie here in Newfoundland which is a heavily Irish province in Canada. It is part of our traditions at xmas as well. It goes along with mummering. You could do a creepy version of a mummer. People dress up in anything. Sheets ,wigs,old pantyhose,rubber boots are imperative ,skirts with pants anything to disguise who you are. And you don't speak just kinda mumble and nod yes or no. Knock on doors of usually those you know and someone say "nee mummers lowd in?" If yes you go in and they must be given drinks and cookies or what have you. They dance around to a few tunes and you try to guess who they are. Then they leave and onto the next house. Of course purity syrup mixed with water( kinda like kool-aid but super sweet is offered to the child mummers). It's an almost dead tradition now as people are more wary of letting people in their home they can't recognize. But in its time it looked fun.❤

I loved this! My great-aunt Barbara was a first-generation Welsh woman, and she did this every year growing up. Mostly just sort of dressed up for us kids, but it was still cool. The words are actually pronounced differently in the actual language. In Welsh, it’s more phonetically pronounced eh-fari-lloid, and you roll the R a bit. It’s got four syllables, five if you include the “eh” sound at the beginning, which I usually do. It translates probably to Grey Horse, because the skulls looks a bit grey I guess. The Christians who fucked the British Isles up at the time thought that it meant “Holy Mary” because of course they did. I hope you’ll get to enjoy your skeletal horse sing battles in exchange for booze and snacks each year in the future! Fair warning, horse skulls are heavy as shit and you kinda need to really attach it to the carrying poll. Also, it might be a good idea to put velcro around the back of the skull to attach the sheet to, so you don’t have to have it pressed against your face and ruining your makeup and hair quite as much. That’s what I wanted to do, anyway.

Wait, this video has been out for 2 days? Why is KZbin only just now notifying me and saying it was released 8 hours ago? What in blazes is going on around here?? Adored the look! BUT as someone who likes facepainting and does it quite frequently for birthday parties, I would suggest doing the teeth on the bottom lip and a tiny bit on the chin. It gives the enlangated skull look if that makes sense.

This is so fun!! You did a great job. Maybe for the teeth (if you do this again), you could just paint the top lip white, and make the bottom lip and a bit of the chin the teeth? To make it look like just one row instead of two? I have no idea if that would work or look ridiculous, but it is an idea!
