Not really! They will peck if you're not gentle with them.

Thanks. I do too. You should see my basket of multicolored eggs. The egg color is unique to each variety of chicken.

I absolutely love to hear roosters crow...they are one of my favorite things. I ind their crowing very peaceful and soothing. LOL. I am rewatching this video just for that reason....love chickens!

Oh, the chicks are so sweet. Such good mamas. The Purple heart looked like it had been Bedazzled. The dew on the leaves looked like diamonds. Very pretty. Thank you for sharing.😁🐔🐤

So neat to see the mamas working together to raise the chicks. I had two broody hens but when the chicks were hatched they fought over them terribly until one hen won the battle and kept all the babies for herself.
@GrammaRosesHomestead4 жыл бұрын
That is sort of what has happened with these two. The chicks are sleeping at night with one of the hens, but during the day, they both take care of them.

I think that when the little chicks start to learn to scratch that they look like they are doing a little moon walk. Every scratch moves them backwards because they are so small.

Oh! Your chickens are SO pretty. I don't know if I could have them just running around. I live in the middle of a city and saw a chicken run out in my street the other day from one of the yards. I would be very nervous not to have them in their own separate area.
@GrammaRosesHomestead4 жыл бұрын
In your situation, you should have them more contained. If you have a fenced yard and clip their wings, they'd be fine exploring your back yard. Clipping their wings doesn't hurt them. It's like a hair cut. Since I live in the country, I want mine to be able to fly to escape predators.

Stupid question probably but here goes, do you eat your chickens 🐓 or are the pets and more for eggs 🥚 mine were! Pets but it did eat the eggs I had 12 black sex links, and 5 fancy feather footed nannies , all my sex links we’re supposed to be females but tractor supplies accidentally, got one rooster so I had three roosters and they all got along just fine, they would squabble sometimes but for the most part they did great! I got rid of mine when a neighbor harassed me, but as soon as I can afford fees again I am thinking about getting more back, I miss my chickens 🐓 they would follow me all around the yard, never left my property once I got them trained, they followed me because I took care or them from the day after they hatched 🐣 I must say there wasn’t a bug anywhere I my yard when they were patrolling, or spiders, or my garden plants 🌱 they thought my garden tasted good too, but they never bothered my tomatoes 🍅 I think they sensed they may get sick from them, they went in the coop at night but were free ranged all day long, I had to put them in at night because of predators out here in the woods, I raised the babies in the house 🏡 in a cloth popup dog kennel too! Till they were big enough to go outside! I love your videos and you as a person! 🤗❤️💕✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️💕❤️🤗🐣🥚🙏🍅🏡🐓

You're too kind, Duane! I haven't intentionally harvested any of my chickens to eat, but my dog has killed some and I did eat those. My chickens are pets that give me eggs and I'd miss them terribly if I had to get rid of them. Tractor Supply is notorious for mixing up chicken breeds, but I believe your male Black Sex Link was a hatchery error. TSC shouldn't have even received a male. As for others, I've gotten Blue Wyandottes when I thought I was buying Silver Laced ones (again, a hatchery error), and my one Long Island Red hen was mixed in with ASA Browns. It's easy to put one yellow chick back in the wrong brooder of another breed. When you look at my garden, you'll see plastic totes and other things upside down around the property. Those aren't just me getting distracted and failing to put them away, but instead, they're protecting seedlings I don't want the chickens to scratch up! Not many bugs here either, except for the ubiquitous fire ants. Even the chickens won't bother them!

They’re so pretty- do they stay in their coop in winter
@GrammaRosesHomestead4 жыл бұрын
I live in Mississippi, and it's not too cold for my chickens to free range in winter too. They always go back to their coop to roost at night.
