Ant, at 74 and Retired Navy, I would recommend an inversion table. Let some of the weight of your upper body reduce the compression on your spine. Otherwise the VA may want to do traction to achieve the same results. This you could do daily for short periods, where the VA might want hours and most of progress gets canceled by the long commute! As a retired RN and dealing with sciatica after retiring & due to “fruits of my labor” for 30 years, I totally agree! I did eventually have to have surgery 6 years ago, and happy with the results. However, my pre-op MRI uncovered a myriad of issues, so I still have occasions of discomfort, but not debilitating sciatica. Try some stretching BEFORE getting out of bed and physical therapy at home daily. They can give you instruction on that and there plenty of PT therapists on KZbin, that I've found to be helpful. But, most importantly, use your common sense, which I know you have! Happy Birthday, Ant, and enjoy your birthday pie! My sons always preferred pies for their BDs.

Despite your discomfort I admire your enduring positivity. I am surprised that the armed forces don’t look after their veterans without you jumping through lots of bureaucratic hoops. You would think that they have the records for everything that happened to their servicemen. It also seems like that in Australia too, all care no responsibility. But they are part of our government service too, says a lot about them doesn’t it. Apple crumble, yum! All three of you stay safe .

Glad to hear you’ve started the process with the VA. My brother is a Vietnam combat vet and he says the care he gets at Fort Smith and the big VA in Little Rock is really good. He’s a “grumpy vet” 😂 so if he is pleased, that’s saying something. His cardiologist is in Little Rock.

Happy Birthday Ant!! Also coming from a 100% disabled Veteran which took me 7 years of appeals and finally getting the DAV behind me!! Let me try to help you out a bit !! Dont ever let your appeals expire or you will have to start ALL over, always appeal till you get what you deserve and the biggest thing that helped me was getting DAV behind me and becoming a member which was only like 100$ but oh man did they help getting all the reevaluations done fast and put in for everything and anything that happened to you while in the service as you will be surprised what you can get for some things !! Wishing you the best of luck with your back as thats what my main disability is along with sciatic nerve damage!!! Also i dont know what your job was but i was an Aircraft Mechanic/Crew chief and i put in for tendinitis (ringing in my ears) and got that pretty easy cause of the whining jet engines!! Which is also caused from Motorcycle riding and shooting alot just saying but be SURE to CHECK OUT YOUR LOCAL DAV!!!
