The thing that fascinates me most about this special is that there’s a part of the world of Peanuts where real live humans exist and the adults speak in clear sentences. 😂

Sparky (aka Charles Schulz) was once quoted as saying that he at one time considered this his "Citizen Kane", but it turned out not to be due to the poor reception. This was made on a shoestring budget, which explains why there is not much interaction between the animated characters and live-action objects. (All the props that the animated characters use are strictly animated.)

comments from Japan. I'm happy to see Spike for such a long time. I lost a beagle dog boy. My dog was single all his life, he was very similar to Spike. That's why I seemed to be able to meet my dog again and watched it crying all the time..... I'm sorry for my bad English.

I agree with Shops Shire. Your English is fine. Certainly it is better then Google Translate. I tried putting your post into Google Translate to make it translate from English to Japanese. Then I copied the Japanese and made it translate from Japanese back to English and this is what it did: "Comment from Japan. Nice to see Spike after a long time. I lost my beagle boy. My dog has been single all his life. He looked a lot like Spike. That's why I was able to see my dog again, and I was watching him cry all the time... Sorry for the poor English." The translation from Japanese to English made it seem like it had been a long time since you had seen Spike in a cartoon, not that you were able to see him in the cartoon for a long time. It also changed the meaning to make it seem as if Spike was the one crying the whole time. There is no telling what you will get if you try to translate my reply from English to Japanese using Google Translate.

Good to see Spike get a moment in the spotlight here! Though I did notice how by this time, he'd become a pretty popular character in the strip (he was also in a LOT of '90s Peanuts strips.) He even (SPOILER ALERT) makes a cameo appearance in the new Peanuts movie! I don't think it's fair of people to have said this was a "Roger Rabbit" rip-off. Combining live-action with animation is one of the oldest special effects in the book (look at "Gertie the Dinosaur" or the "Out of the Inkwell" shorts!)

Honestly this makes me yearn for a time when a sitcom tv show which was live action and a few 2D animated characters lived in there didn't seem like a distant possibility. There HAVE been a few shows and pilots made, of course, it is just they are rare and have never much been very good. It would be nice to see a show that made use of such medium blendings, and wasn't awful like "Out of Jimmy's Head" or reliant on nothing but tasteless 'Adult' humor (like that one show that was a parody of He-Man) and was made with a lot more sincerity and heart.

Nice to finally see this! I remember seeing a clip of the final couple of minutes with Spike and Jenny but that was all. Honestly, it really isn’t as bad as most people say it is. The scene with Jenny skating with Spike was actually quite good.

I wished Snoopy: the Musical is released on DVD. This thing is more criticized than the other Peanuts specials.

+Ruth Yeomans The show was not well received, largely because it was unfavorably compared to the recently released Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which also mixed animation with live action. Schulz was worried that people would think he had copied the idea from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

This feels like that movie "Thomas & the Magic Railroad" but it has Peanuts characters instead of Thomas characters.

Never understood why people disliked this movie. I understand it was obviously made to cash in on the success of Roger Rabbit, but as a kid I really enjoyed it. After rewatching it again though, I have to say it's quite flawed and feels like it was rushed out.
