when kendrick says “I might just push the button” that symbolizes calling the west coast to “go to war”. He previously mentioned he is the only one next to snoop that could push the button.

This song makes me cry. I am a mixed person who comes from a hispanic country (where my blackness was heavily discredited). To me It expresses the pride of being black. And when i listen to it, i can feel my pride still inside.

There's another layer of meaning to this track that you might have missed. I don't blame you, it's a first reaction, I get it. But since no one has mentioned it in the comments yet I thought I'd do it. Notice how Kendrick begins each verse with "I'm the biggest hypocrite of 2015", and goes on to say that if you listen to the end you'll agree. Well, at the end of the third and final verse he raps "So why did I weep when Trayvon Martin was in the street / when gang banging made me kill a n-word blacker than me / hypocrite!" He spends the majority of the track addressing society's racism against black people, and yet at the end it's revealed that he actually feels conflicted about it because he himself (or a fictional character he's rapping from the perspective of) has killed someone because of the shade of their skin. So, not only is this track about racism, it's also about a kind of self-hatred within African-American people that is a result of racism. I certainly can't speak to it as a white guy but I can be thankful for artists like Kendrick and try to learn from what they have to say.
@thefreshmailand4 жыл бұрын
I agree, although I don't think he killed him because of his skin color, more like other reasons like pride or greed. However, African Americans killing each other is the point where they turn themselves into hypocrites while they talk about their problems which are self-made to some degree. This point is mentioned by him in other tracks too.

The chorus is too deep! "They put me in a chain, cause I'm black - imagine now, big gold chains full of rock" from chains as a slave to golden jewellery full of diamonds "And then with the whip they left scars on my back, but now we got big whips parked on the block" slaves use to get whipped for disobedience and now they got big whips (cars) parked on the block 🔥

Kendrick is known as the best of our time for a reason. This was one of his most controversial songs. He performed it at the bet awards the year of its release. Amazing performance you should check it out on your own time. Love the reaction. Now that’s I have said my thoughts back to my requests. J Cole - everybody dies and Joey badass - La leakers freestyle.

In regards to the comment below me I honestly don’t know why people find his music not re-listenable? Even the songs that are heavy in lyricism still have banging beats! But if you take out the heavy songs you’re still left with AT LEAST 5 songs per album that are just great bangers.

I love how honest and respective you guys are of your own personal opinions I love that. No matter the difference we are all the same and bleed the same no matter what. Just because someone has a different belief doesn’t mean we hate them we should respect one another everyone has their OWN belief and not everyone thinks exactly align or alike as one another. That doesn’t mean we can’t be friends some political issues get in the way of being an actual humanitarian to one another we only have one life make it count.

There are very few people in the world who can do what Kendrick did in this song. And if it was anyone but him, it would not have done this justice. The thing about this song is that you can’t only agree with one portion of the it. Half is about people who use stereotypes and condemn systemic racism, vs the self hate inflicted within the black community that results in gangbanging as a product of greed. “I’m the biggest hypocrite of 2015” is his way of saying, “you don’t get to just choose one”. There is so much more in this song to dive into that opens 100 more doors with even more meanings. This is why people need to give Kendrick time for his albums. This will be a significant piece of history and to see it popping up now with all of the protesting shows me that Kendrick owes nothing to anyone. He’s paid his dues already.

"i know you hate me as much as you hate yourself, jealous of my wisdom and cards I dealt. Watching me as I fill my tank and peel out. Muscle cars like pull ups, show you what these big wheels 'bout".. The white man is jealous of the flamboyant nature of a successful black man knowing that he would never live up to the social applaud as the black man, even if he displayed the very same antics of having a muscle car with big rims. The black man is jealous of the successful black man because in many cases you need hard work, determination and a lot of LUCK to get yourself out of the hood, buy a car and live the good life... these forms of jealousy both culminate into a form of hatred that comes from jealous, a hatred of one's self and love for another's good fortune
