The preparation of one of the live animals (fish) was outrageous, in my opinion, and in many countries this is considered animal cruelty.

That picture will be stuck in my head for the rest of my life:( I loved the videos here so much, but I wasn’t prepared for living fish stuck on a stick and cooked alive (I assume without being able to watch till the end)..

I love that it's family-owned. I love the cozy comfort. No gimmicks, or crazy luxury, just a nice, slow-paced place to actually unwind. It seems a good place for an extended stay, honestly.

@@betterburnoutTraditions, we do have such cruel ways of cooking things here too Even tho I don’t like it it’s quite hypocritical to blame this man just for following the traditions
Lovely ryokan. Your videos are always so serene and calming. Also, THANK YOU for the live fish being cooked warning before you showed them on the screen.

Seeing that plum sake reminded me of a dumb thing I did years ago. Back when I lived in Canada, I took my mother to a Japanese restaurant. At one point I ordered a bottle of sake because I never tried it before, and I was curious. Well, what I didn't do was check the price of said bottle of sake, which ended up being $40, which *then* bumped the bill up from a $40 dollar meal to an $80 meal. Edit: Also, as gruesome as it is seeing live fish cooked that way, I also thought it was kinda fascinating since I've seen fish prepared that way in anime, but I assumed they were dead when cooked 🤔

Are they not? I thought it just moves as like different parts expand or shrink when heat-prepped because they're on a stick and not flat...

The Ryokan is very beautiful and the landscape is so relaxing. Felt sorry for the fish though. I just hope it already suffocated before it was served & it was just the nerves still moving. Dead fish‘s nerves can move quite long. But that’s why I‘m a vegetarian because I feel sorry for animals suffering. People who eat meat need to be aware that pigs, cows etc. are suffering too for food. Or the fish is suffering too when people go fishing. However I couldn’t watch a fish moving while roasting.

At first, I feel everything pretty good about this 旅館 until I saw how they treated the fish. I cannot stand that the fish was pierced by sticks alive and suffering by heated to death. Freshness is good, but in such a curl way was definitely acceptable. If the fish were you, how are you feeling?

Impaled and slowly roasted. My goodness how cruel.
Das ist Tierquälerei! 😢 bei einem so kultivierten Volk wie den Japanern hätte ich das nicht gedacht. 😢
@areareare9953 Жыл бұрын
I'm not "shocked" by the fish thing, because I grew up in New England and oysters/crabs/lobsters are boiled alive, so it's not a Japanese culture thing, for those thinking that. I certainly could never bring myself to boil things alive - there are equally plenty of Japanese who wouldn't roast fish alive either. I do eat meat though, so I certainly have no high horse to ride on. Paul McCartney always said if abattoires had windows, we'd all be vegetarian, and he's probably right. Just be careful implying things about Japanese people or culture as a whole, please.
