Nearly stayed in a Buddhist temple myself: monastery of Tyenboche on the Everest Base Camp Trek 3,800 metres - one of the highest monastic communities in the world. A monk accompanied me from the entrance to the small town until we reached the tea house where we were to spend the night, and we communed silently for maybe 5 minutes. But I’m not disposed to any form of institutional life so in the end I stayed in the tea house. I was glad to have met him though and he is often in my thoughts!
