I worked with product managers at my last job, and they seem to fall into two categories which may or may not be their fault. First you have more tenured ones, who seem to control everything and have a very good understanding of the company’s product, the direction that should be taken, and the industry overall. But then you get the new guys or the ones lower on the totem pole and they don’t seem to really matter at all. It’s kind of unfortunate because I don’t necessarily think it’s their fault, but some PM’s can definitely get away with doing little to nothing or having no impact at all. It’s a job that seems to get laid off a lot, and it seems to entail many different responsibilities depending on the company you’re working at or the nature of your job. I’ve seen PM’s carry out responsibilities from that I don’t think align with what a PM actually is. The chick on the other hand has a Macbook and a pie chart with a bunch of words around it, she’s likely from marketing. This is the modern day problem, people (especially women) who work at tech related companies are mostly doing non-related jobs, and they know that researchers and engineers are just superior titles and individuals, so they want to highlight that they work in tech but they don’t want audiences to know their real lame and easy boring job. I worked at Bosch on autonomous driving for a while, they have 5 extremely fancy buildings and only about 3 floors in one of the buildings are for R&D department that’s full of engineers who write real code and equations, and do real tests on experimental systems. His Younger Brother, who was an aspiring fitness coach, who wanted to do YT Videos, who did who knows what for work, ended up renting a house with 4 people for $1000 a month each or something, in the same area, and while it was a nice place, I don't get wtf he was thinking doing this. He BOUGHT a SHIRT PRESS(They cost multiple hundreds of dollars +) `to make T-Shirts for his business that didn't exist(instead of maybe hiring an outsourced company, which we actually had one locally). These people are crazy.... He had no job, no anything, Idk how he even had the money to spend(maybe had something saved up, doubt it with how he operated).... Yet was just spending all this money like wtf... Meanwhile his older brother living at home saving up ---------------- This also reminded me of a situation a guy I knew told me. His Wife's Sister's Husband (Now Ex I think), created this idea for a YT competitor where... GEt this..... People would PAY 25-cents per video to watch... He also hired a guy to create a cryptocoin for the platform too. He somehow got investment money, which I believe was something like $500,000 worth, and instead of investing in his company, he decided to fly around the world trying to get more investments... This was going on back in 2014? or so..... I kept asking my buddy and he claims that even within the last year or so this guy is still trying tgo come out with this site.... Imagine in today's market of mass scrolling... People paying for watching videos LOLOLLOOLOLOL Worst idea ever... Even back then I thought it was a horrid idea, because people don't even know what htey are watching,s o why would they pay for something they don't even know... Do they get a preview? As an engineer in tech this is demoralizing. The average tech company is 25% engineers who work hard, 25% managers and sales reps who make it all possible, and 50% no sense positions. Thankfully my company is an old, traditional company that pivoted to tech, so we're much more efficient, but I've seen so many companies like you are highlighting here, it's infuriating.

Xbox said they’re working on next gen Console but lack of mid gen upgrade suggest it’s going very bad for Xbox. Iwon’t be surprised if they even abandon next gen project altogether and just going forward as GamePass subscription model for PC and other consoles. I just don’t see any of the upcoming title going to be mega hit. MS is not a fan of Xbox brand since they haven’t turn profit in terms of hardware sales for a very long time

@ Every successful console ever since PS1 got a refresh to squeeze more sale out of hardcore fans. Technical upgrade was never a big part of mid gen refresh. Consoles get new design, little boost in performance or technical spec to make fans to buy another console. Switch and PS5 are success in general picture and that’s why they got two different reversion to push more sales. Lack of Xbox action can be interpreted by them moving on from current console and they already waved white flag

@@AkagiRedSun uuuh right… maybe its that xbox is focussing less in the console and far more on player numbers with gamepass etc etc. Its know gamepass makes crazy money for xbox, so they need to focus less on a plastic box. Guess its hard to understand that for some…

Had those types coming in as paid interns when I left my last job. Couldn't trust them to do the job without significant training on the job, one spent all their time organizing social events with other interns and management types then complained to management about being bored and got moved out to another section. They made our jobs harder as they hated being told what to do by 'old men', didn't do the work properly and we'd end up having to clean up their mistakes, apologize to customers for issues they had caused through hubris.

@kingnull26972 ай бұрын
As a general point, I'd expect "significant on-the-job training" for anyone coming in, esp. interns who haven't had a "real job" in the industry.
@TheEnigman2 ай бұрын
@@kingnull2697I can accept that but even the basics weren't there for a technical role and in which they had specialized in college. We'd had interns before with no problem but it seemed like there had been a shift somehow in only a few years. I'd had high hopes as we had had a number of interns who while they moved on to other roles had really flourished when working in our team. One would volunteer to come in after hours unpaid to learn how to do work with which they weren't familiar - paid off for them because we got a large request for work later on and he earned a lot of overtime (paid for by a customer) doing that work after hours. Another loved working on hardware and got scouted by a technician from an affiliated company. We had documentation on anything and everything as some of the customer systems were very complex. We'd have them read through key documentation broken up by tours of the facilities. I knew how boring the documentation could be as we had all gone through the same thing. They certainly didn't enjoy one big customer administering online training and 'tests' to be allowed to work on their systems - you didn't get access unless you had completed their trainings (some technical, some ethical), background check etc. A lot of these interns were on a fast track for the management stream so technical work seemed to be beneath them even though their majors were in technical fields. Their expectation for promotion was also unrealistic, Team Leader after 3 months, Manager at 12 months etc. Even on the fast track those expectations were unrealistic.
