My dad is a doctor. Was literally never around when I was a kid cause he was either working his two jobs, studying, or in class. He's been paying off his student loans for almost 20 years now. He is well known in my small hometown because hes a great doctor and just an overall good person in society. He isn't getting student loan debt relief, but these people are. Let that sink in.

That's because your Father grew up with a good work ethic and a plan. He also went to Med School because he actually wanted to help people, not just make money like the current crop of Med Students and Hospital Medical Board Boomers. He sounds like a rare breed and in small towns, manners and courtesy are far more common practice. I'd bet Wokie White Collar kids would snub their nose at him, but his work is criminally underappreciated and contributes far more to society than they ever will. He sounds like someone that should be sought for wisdom and guidance, not some fembot Gender Studies major.

UPDATE 7/6/24: She has gone back to school for a Masters in Museum Curating. This will add another 60 grand to her student debt. 9:02 That reminds me of a story I heard. A man goes to get a degree in ancient Egyptian archeology because that is his passion. Gets said degree but, there are so few jobs and he is not qualified for them. Decides he needs to make himself more marketable so he goes back to get his masters. Still cannot find a job. The only job he can find is teaching ancient Egyptian archeology. So he goes back to get his PhD to teach ancient Egyptian archeology. Thereby if not just continuing the cycle of too many degrees for to few jobs but possibly making it worse.

And remember; these are the people asking for help from the government, demanding forgiven student debt... the people who have already taken as much as possible in grants, subsidies, benefits, welfare, loans, you name it. None of it is repaid, nor would they repay you if they did have the cash on hand. The biggest blackpill I was forced to swallow after the pandemic was finding out what people did with the stolen PPP funds (ostensibly intended for suffering businesses or families, but largely going to thieves instead). The good part of us wants to believe, they spent it on food, clothing, medicine, and hobbies. But that isn't the truth at all. Look up footage of Miami Florida at the height of the pandemic. They were packed in like sardines at wild pool parties, funded entirely on stolen loans filed by fake companies like "Free Money, LLC".

@@py_a_thonwell, slaves probably only indirectly influenced the buillding of the pyramids by doing some menial jobs, most historians/archaeologists nowadays agree that it were the paid labourers who did most of the building. I've worked as an IT guy for over a decade and YOU ARE NOT FUCKING KIDDING. Most of my management teams have been totally incompetent. It is the BIGGEST stressor in my life, having to provide for myself and a disabled parent (and a cat) while having to navigate management who don't understand how to manage effectively. I've come to a point where I don't feel it's possible to continue. I've been fired from 5 jobs since 2020, and all because management was beyond incompetent. It's been mostly lack of work and lack of understanding the business they're involved with that lead to not only myself but others being terminated.

My husband just took over a position in management. The previous two people who had the position were either the company for about 6month to 2 years before his boss could finally prove they had done 0 work for the company in that time. They both have VP positions now at other companies. (They’re white men so it isn’t just a race/sex thing, it’s a failing upward thing)

I graduated High School back in 1997. I remember talking to my counselor about going to college and she was all about me "finding myself" and taking time there to *really* find what I wanted to do. That I could just "sign up for classes" to get my feet wet while I figured out what major I wanted. Yup. She wanted me to just go into debt for no damn reason. I told her I could just take a year, get a job and figure out what I career I'd like so I'd know what I needed to study. She got all offended and said that if I took that year, I was way less likely to go to college. So I compromised and went for one semester to the local community college for a Fine Arts degree. It took that one semester for me realize it was BS and that I would rather get a job instead of going into debt for basically nothing. Got married a year later and 26+ years in, I've had a great life as a stay at home mom. Hubby is a mechanical engineer, btw. So yeah, go to a trade school or college for STEM, but otherwise, avoid the universities etc.

GenX, '84 - My counselor stressed skipping college unless the goal was a Doctorate in STEM. If I had said I wanted to "find myself" there, she would have called in a rubber/foam lined paddy wagon. They would give me a lift to a place that would have helped me do that. What a difference 10 years makes huh?
