That I could just "sign up for classes" to get my feet wet while I figured out what major I wanted. Yup. She wanted me to just go into debt for no damn reason. I told her I could just take a year, get a job and figure out what I career I'd like so I'd know what I needed to study. She got all offended and said that if I took that year, I was way less likely to go to college. So I compromised and went for one semester to the local community college for a Fine Arts degree. It took that one semester for me realize it was BS and that I would rather get a job instead of going into debt for basically nothing. Got married a year later and 26+ years in, I've had a great life as a stay at home mom. Hubby is a mechanical engineer, btw.
