You caught me ! The first time I saw an A500, I was still rocking my ZX spectrum.. and of course it was instant jealousy.. In around 91' we had a 386sx PC at home, and I was still jealous about my best friend's Amiga. Although through the next years the PC revealed itself being a more capable gaming machine than the amiga, specially for 3D games, if you had a svga card, HD, etc.. the Amiga was special and I would eventually get one later. For me Amiga was the "Golden system" of a "Golden Era".

The Amiga was an absolute powerhouse. Games had an energy that you just didn't get on other platforms, especially Darkmere; I adore the atmosphere in that game.

Nonsense. The Amiga was a second-rate gaming platform. It had the Euro developers but all the great gaming IP at the time was owned by Japanese companies and the consoles had by far the most popular titles worldwide, including Zelda, Sonic and Mario, and some of the best games which have ever been written.

the Amiga actually made the other computer platforms struggle to catch up.. for years they tried to push the idea that "serious computers" shouldn't use a lot of color or sound.. and deep graphic power was not useful for anything but games.. The thing that made Amiga so unique is that it also had the most ambitious and sophisticated games including strategy, RPG, management, crossover games. It allowed ambitious gamemakers to go crazy with ideas never seen before. It also provided a serious amount of tools like programing environments, graphics and sound editing software that made the system a workstation for creative people.

Another great video on the Amiga. About half this games are just new to me. Thanx. In 1988, when full steaming on ZX48k, still remember the first time I saw an A500 at a friend's house, it was running Saint Dragon. I became so confused... How could that be possible!? A home computer running a hot arcade title of the time, at that high level of conversion! The same later, with Silk Worm. Later in 1992 I became a proud A1200 owner, bought at SilicaSystems, Tottenham Court Road, London. This time my favorites became Frontier, Syndicate, Chaos Engine, F-15 Strike Eagle 2 and Pinball Fantasies. Cheers 🍺

I was addicted to Turrican on the Amiga, but by far the worst design aspect was that the character would run close to the right side of the screen, not in the middle or even set back. Whatever direction he is running, most of the screen should be showing what is coming, not what he has already passed.

I don't know anyone from back in the day, who was jealous of me playing Banshee on my A1200 (the CD-Version on my SCSI-Squirrel-CD-Rom). In 1994/95 Shoot Em Up's were cosidered kind of B-Type/Arcade-games, not high class titles (like Zelda, Mario, Turrican) you really cared for. Games you rent from the video store on a console or got a cracked copy from on your home computer. At that time most had moved on to PCs able of performing well on tiltes like "Doom", "Heretic", "Formula One" or consoles like the Super Nintendo or Atari Jaguar, which could graphically at least do the same or better. I consider this a myth. The really impressive time for the Amiga was from 89 to 93, when it still outperformed most common PC configurations and consoles and Games like Lemmings, North & South", Lotus TC, Monkey Island, Turrican II, Cannon Fodder, Another World, Lionheart, Powermonger, Golden Axe, F-19 Stealth Fighter really offered you an gaming experience in graphic, sound and gameplay you hardly couldn't find anywhere else (at least in Europe). Even if some of the mentioned ones didn't push the Amiga hardware to it's limits. So I think, your video seems a little out of touch with reality. It's more of a very modern perspective, because today anyone seems to know, which games were hardware pushers and which not.

The Amiga exclusive I played the most was actually a public domain program, IIRC. The Amiga version of Space War was very different from other versions, and generally unusual because it used hires interlaced mode (which, on an AGA machine, would be a very rock solid 640x400 flicker-fixed mode). The thing that made Amiga Space War so different was that your torps had a low muzzle velocity and low range compared to the ship's natural acceleration. You had to use very different tactics, including firing an arc of torps while facing and thrusting AWAY from the enemy. Anyway, I think that the Amiga games which made others envious were generally not exclusives. In particular, look at the Cinemaware games. Most of them would be ported to other systems, but the graphical inferiority of the ports would just hammer home the superiority of the Amiga hardware (albeit perhaps unfairly). But honestly? The jealousy direction went the other way after Wing Commander. And after Wolfenstein 3D? After Doom? You already know this. DOS machines were the top dog. The Amiga's 3d graphics games were lame in comparison, and VGA looked better for point-and-click games (which is sad, because Amiga point-and-click games could have looked better with interlaced or HAM modes, or even just using the copper for dynamic palette). I'm disappointed that we never had any games take advantage of HAM mode. It would work particularly well with pinball games, point-and-click games, and isometric games. I actually started working on a HAM interlaced isometric game starring a "killer ball bearing" (a shiny sphere armed with a battle axe). But I never got further than drawing some graphics in DigiPaint3.

Realmente a US Gold não publicava assim tanto jogo que mereça muito do nosso tempo. Naquela época talvez, mas hoje em dia nem por isso.

Great vid, I found Shadow of the Beat 2 impossible though. Apidya is one of the best shmups ever, that fucking soundtrack! Chris Huelsbeck is the man and I love that first song in Rock n Roll...I even tried learning in on the piano...same with the music of Yo Joe!

I had the same joystick for my Amiga, but eventually switched to a Saga Master System gamepad as I found myself more comfortable with a pad than joystick. Today’s games might be graphically beautiful, but they lack the playability of many of the old games on the Amiga.

So Banshee is about 4 Mb- to get it onto a flash drive for the gotek is not possible unless you do fancy segmentation of the .LHa file. Remember we dont have working floppies anymore. Yes I could transfer it using Win UAE- but that’s a total pain 😅
@off1k7 ай бұрын
??? Can the Gotek read LHA files, if so I didn't know that. Anyway there's a floppy version of the game, just grab the ADFs and copy them to the Gotek, done.

Shadow of the Beast 1989 was the pinnacle of amiga envy. At that time it was ahead of what any other comparably priced computer system could do. Crazy to think that it was already running on 4 year old technology. To my mind 1989 was the last year that commodore could have really kept hold of the lead 'multi media' computer if they'd released a new machine : min spec should have been 16bit sound and 12bit gfx ( the Turbo Grafix 16 was already doing 482 colours ~9bit on screen in 1987 ): both the digital art and music industry at the time would have been blown away by such spec. Instead two years later we got the A600, a repackage of a repackage, killing a dying platform. Who was envious of A1200 games in the mid 1990s? Not Playstation or Pentium owners. Not even Atari ST owners, they had the superior Falcon, which sadly came at least 3 years too late as well (needed to be out '89, came out in '92).

Boas amigo , Infelizmente nunca tive o prazer de me dedicar a jogar Amiga.

The AMIGA was ready in 1984 if they had released the A500 around that time it would have been way ahead with its advanced features instead they tried to sell it as a business machine and let the ST become established thats what would have happened if Tramiel had not fallen out with Commodore
