knob creek sib comes from the same barrels or batches as bookers from what i've heard.
@ItsBourbonNight2 жыл бұрын
From what we’ve read they have different proofs that they come off the still, so barrels that will designated for Knob Creek come off the still at 130 proof while barrels designated for Booker’s come off at 125 proof. Both enter the barrel at 125 proof, though and they share the same mashbill. Still very similar though.

Four Roses Single Barrel is a great value, but I've had bottles that I would literally pay double the price for and then I've had bottles that were just good for what their price point is. You'll obviously get that with single barrel whiskies, but definitely makes the Small Batch Select a little more safe. You're paying maybe $10 more, but for a more consistent product. I'd probably personally gamble and stick with the single barrel, but understand why others might not. Great stuff, guys!

Just my opinion - but 4Roses 80pf yellow seems pretty good - probably the best of the 'losers' on this vid by a wide margin. OTOH The 4R Select &* 1bbl are only marginally better. 4R has no real loser, but no home-run hiiters like Bookers of Stagg(lr).

For Jim Beam, I would have had Basil Hayden's as the worst. It's the same problem as OGD and white label (actually BH may have even less flavor than either) but costs twice as much. My favorite from Buffalo Trace would have been EH Taylor Single Barrel, but you definitely can't find it, or anything higher shelf than Buffalo Trace in my area.

That is why I will not support Buffalo Trace any longer. The fact that almost their entire portfolio is considered "allocated" is enough for me to be done with them. Plenty of bourbons that are just as good or better that I can find on the shelf, without markup, almost any day of the week.

I was slightly surprised at the number of "worst" bottles I've never even heard of for Beam and Buffalo Trace. I did agree with most of your "best" options, no surprise there. For Jim Beam I've only had Booker's maybe once at a bar and Knob Creek isn't a bottle I typically reach for. Four Roses I thought of Yellow Label too, then had the same "best" conflict. I lean into Small Batch Select as something I prefer, but due to price I'd easily go for a Single Barrel instead. As the beast that is Buffalo Trace, I only have tried Ancient Ancient age and even then I wouldn't call it worst. Stagg (Jr.) however I've only gotten to try samples of and haven't seen it in my area. As my own best I thought E.H. Taylor, also difficult to find and have only gotten bottles of via... donations. So with that I too would land on Weller 107... another bottle that I haven't seen and own now by pure luck. -_- As for distilleries to do next: Willett, Heaven Hill and Woodford.
@johnhunt17252 жыл бұрын
I can't believe you actually think 4YO Jim Beam White is WORSE than 3YO Old Crow, which is basically JBW minus 25 percent of the aging time. It just doesn't make any sense.

We don’t have any of those low end BTs in Southern Cal, but regular BT is $19.95 at Costco (Carlsbad). Eagle Rare is $39.99 at Vons (Bishop). EHT SB is $49.95 at BevMo (Vista). Stagg Jr. $150 at Beverage House (Vista). These are available at these prices on a regular basis, although not necessarily every single day. FWIW.

Excellent video. On best picks, I agree the the KC SB. While I’ve had some that were good but not “knock your socks off”, I’ve had many that were awesome. On Four Roses, I also teeter back and forth on Small Batch Select vs Single Barrel. This week, it’s Small Batch Select. I think it has a better, more balanced nose and of course great mouthfeel. When Sarah said Old Taylor, my brain thought E.H. Taylor and I had a heart attack. I’m ok now, my bad. Glad you chose to think of an alternative to Stagg, which is unobtanium and I've never had (sniff sniff). But these days, anything BT is hard to find. My pick? E.H. Taylor or course.

For Beam, Sara I agree. Any Booker’s, no. Certain Booker’s, yes. But, IMHO, it needs to be any Booker’s to be on top. For me Knob Creek SiB is up top, but Basil Hayden is my least favorite. Four Roses, Yellow(Tan) label for least and Small Batch Select is up top; one of my all time favorites since it came out. Buffalo Trace, I haven’t had Old Taylor or Old Charter unless they were dusties. And they were awesome! However, regular Benchmark is my least favorite that I have tried. (Although I love that Full Proof they just came out with.) 107 is my favorite. And I’m from Ohio where I can get it on a regular basis. Everyone can hate me, too. Love this series! How about Heaven Hill, High West and Michters.

I feel Stagg shouldn't count as well. I've seen it once. I have a bottle and my friend has a bottle. Mine isn't going to be opened until we finish his, or one of us finds another bottle. Weller Antique is a limited release here as well and I've never seen it. To meet your criteria of availability, I think Buffalo Trace 80 is probably the best 😂

My default worst BT is Benchmark. I don’t believe Old Taylor or Old Charter are available in my area.(I’d have to check though) I have had every regular release BT product at least once and I’d have to say my favorite is EHT.

Great episode guys. My choices are the same essentially. Beam and 4R, my favs are the single barrels. As far as BT, I don’t particularly care for most of their stuff. Don’t hate me. EH Taylor sb would be my favorite of the planets aligned and was obtainable. Plain old Buffalo Trace is my least favorite. There’s something in there that’s off putting to me. I’m not sure what it is.
@davidg53082 жыл бұрын
I have no favs from JB - just can't get past the peanut taste but that's just me. Agree with your 4R picks 100% - both are bueno! As for BT, it's what you can get. Never had any Weller out here on the left coast (refuse to pay secondary) and kind of same with Stagg. Will have to suck it up and get the EHT in a pack somewhere. Oddly, we can get Blanton's and BT pretty easy. Got BT for $17.99 yesterday for the 750! Like Michael's suggestion for next - HH, Makers, and WT. Cheers!
