Cody I rode in a 4 day bike ride to benefit a medical research fund, we ended up raising $2M+ and I rode over 330 miles to fight a good fight. I do not think I would have gotten as in tune with my fitness if it was not for this channel so for that, thank you so much!

I got hit by a motorcycle three weeks ago and fucked up my entire body (which was in the best shape of my life) & therefore cant workout for months which really bummed me out. Ive been watching cody for years but just started following this channel while recovering and its already giving me strength and energy to motivate me back once i physically can. Thank u cody & kelsey for keeping me company while i healed

totally feel you, i was in a car accident last year and it set me back to the beginning and even with consistent physical therapy it took me months to get back. i’m still not 100%, but regardless it felt so good to do my first workout after that although i have to stick to low impact and bodyweight type stuff now. go slow, wishing you health and recovery!! 🫶

One of the keys with implementing strength training into your life is choosing an appropriate intensity (i.e. weights, overall difficulty, workout frequency). Strength training should not make you feel like you have to crawl off the floor at the end of the session or like you can't get your heart rate down. You've got to send an appropriate signal to your body to build strength, and because you're a new father + running so much, you should not be doing a crazy high intensity workout that has you gassed & sore for days. Think of it this way, if you're trying to build a callus on your hand but you just keep scraping it with sandpaper, your body will only ever be trying to heal its destroyed skin and will never actually adapt by building a callus. Just start small -- maybe a full body routine with 3 sets per muscle group for 1-2 days per week. Choose exercises that will help with running like lunges, single leg deadlifts, goblet marches, etc. Keep it simple and take it easy!! I highly recommend Mind Pump's MAPS Anabolic program to complement your running training! I'm a personal trainer & have gotten huge value from their podcast & programs.

Cody! I ran my first marathon yesterday. Most of 2023, I had injuries back to back from other sports. I've never been a distance runner, but you and Russ Cook were big inspirations for me to give it a shot. I trained for 4 solid months with only minor injuries along the way. It wasn't perfect, but I was happy with my longest run being 18 miles as I had never run over 4 miles before. I was running well on race day! I felt great! I was on pace with my nutrition. I wasn't breathing heavy at a strong pace, feeling confident at mile 5. That's when I got some minor knee pain. I figured it was because I had little time to warm up; I got lost on the way to the start line and rolled up as my corral was getting ready to start. I ran through it, pace still solid, but the pain was getting progressively worse. At mile 10, it was pretty severe, so I slowed my pace slightly figuring it would ease up. At the half, my foot went mostly numb, and the pain in my knee was now radiating. I couldn't run without a limp or more than a mile at a time. I thought: you can finish if you wanted, but what if you hurt yourself? why should you push through this? just get medical to take you to the finish line, and meet your friends there. Sometimes, you need to prove it to yourself, though. I never stopped moving forward, limping most of my way to the finish line. When I had it in my sights, I picked up my pace. I ran as fast as I could through it; I felt like I was sprinting. I later saw the video, and I was moving much slower than I thought... I crossed the line, and they put the medal on me. I limped out to the exit of the course, and sunk into the grass surrounded by my friends all excitedly congratulating me. It was a powerful moment when it sunk in, nearly bringing me to tears. I did prove it to myself. I can push past what I thought was possible, and achieve something I could have never conceived of. Despite the obstacles and imperfections. Thanks for inspiring me! Choo Choo!

I am so glad that I found this channel. As you can see, my channel name is Sara's weight loss journey because I had lost 86 lb over the course of a year and a half and I documented it every week. And then last year around may I started drinking and slacking off and now I'm back to where I originally was. I've been very depressed and it's been very difficult for me to get out of bed if I'm being honest. I've been following your other channels for a while now and I didn't even know about this. I didn't know that you and your precious wife would be the ones to inspire me to want to get up and move but thank you

Just gotta say these vlogs are really motivating! I've been getting back into running over the past 6 months, and just did my first 10K today.. Average pace of 10:36/mi which I thought was not too bad, and it was definitely all I had in the tank. I have newfound respect for the pace you hit on your runs! Hopefully I get there one day.

Heyor Cordy! I have signed up for my first 10K run in 4 weeks. I have started to run last year, just to get a bit of change from just sitting around in the office. 2 days ago I officially beat my pb and had my first 10K longrun. The running hype is strong and your videos keep me motivated to reach goals, that I have told myself I couldnt reach. It's calming to see, that even an i r o n m a n struggles, but in the end its about pushing yourself. thank you and choo choo

Your weight lifting vs. running question: Your body is built more aerobic than anaerobic. Runners tend to be more aerobic (has to do with breathing/HR) Weight lifters (or sprinters) are more anaerobic built. You can train your body to be better at either or, but nowadays we are usually born better at one, not both. Ex. A long distance runner may suck at sprints but a sprinter will suck at long distance 🤷🏼‍♀️ nothing wrong just our evolution of physiology.

I just did the yamacraw 20k in Kentucky. I am from Alaska and consider myself in pretty good shape. “Let me tell you” It is a mean course. It’s got 3000 feet of elevation gain with tons of stairs and switchbacks. I was doing well despite this and maintained a sub 10 pace until the last 1.5 mile. Being from Alaska, I am not used to the heat and humidity of the south. I suffered from severe heat exhaustion and sort of passed out for ten minutes then finished up the race at like 20+ min pace for the last 1.5 miles. Reminds me of what Cody was saying his first ultra marathon was like.

Hey Cody, I don't know how you implement stretching in your training but if you're having a hard time getting your heart rate down after lifting you might want to consider doing more stretching after your running cool up! If you start with some dynamic stretches and then ease into static ones it's a gradual decrease in intensity that lets your body know you're done with the hard stuff. Even just five minutes should make a difference. Choo choo!
