I just want to point out how positive the comment section is on Jessica’s videos! With so much drama in the KZbin beauty community, it’s so refreshing and heart warming to see that there are still channels where women are supportive and kind to one another and just talk about our love for makeup!! For me, watching beauty videos is my outlet and a space for me to just relax and forget about work/problems/life even for just a few minutes. Love you Jessica and everyone here! ❤️🤗🥰

This is what most of us ~want~ youtube beauty videos to be. just regular people that we can relate to. while there are some awesome beauty gurus and makeup artists that have made it big time and stayed out of trouble, a lot of the more famous ones have become obsessed with money, fame and power (y'all know the ones I'm talking about). the DRAMA that goes on between them is like something out of a bad reality show and literally no one needs that toxic energy in their life.

I love the lessons at the end because they're things that I've also learned in the past couple years. When I first started watching youtube I bought a million different shades of the same lipstick that people were doing search videos of and did the whole full coverage all the time with colorful eyeshadow and triangles of concealer and was sad when a lot of those things didnt look great on me in real life. Now I'll do a colorful look occasionally, am slowly paring down all the lipsticks I bought in a frenzy and definitely have taken a chill pill with the concealer because it made me look crazy. It makes me sad to think about all the money I spent following trends.

I bought a large train case in 2015 (my collection was getting out of control!). I decided that I have to fit all my makeup in that case. So i only buy something if I have room for it or I will have to declutter something else to make room for it. This makes me examine every potential purchase. Its been amazing. I will never go back.

You are so correct about not following trends that don’t serve you! I’ve spent the last year trying to find a full coverage foundation that works for me. And you know what I realized? I just don’t like full coverage on me. I love my skin! And work so hard on my skin! Why do I feel pressured to have a full coverage that works for me? Because most people say you’re “supposed to” have at least one “wedding” or “special occasion” foundation in your collection. Well - I hate how self conscious I feel with full coverage on! Cakey and nervous when people look at my face up close. It’s ridiculous! At 37 I can now confidentially say I prefer tinted moisturizer because my skin is so beautiful! And I love that you just validated that! Thank you! 💜

This video made me think of one of my favorite quotes: “Comparison is the thief of joy.” I agree with you on all the products you mentioned. I have forever loved the look of black liquid eyeliner on others, but it never looked good on me. I never mastered the technique, and it never felt natural when I did wear it. I’ve bought liquid lipsticks and lip glosses on recommendation, but I hate the way it feel on my lips, and I want to wipe it off as soon as I put it on! I’ve stopped buying things I know in my heart I won’t love or wear. As our lives change, so do our desires and priorities.

Jessica, I LOVE this video. I really appreciate your forthrightness, how unashamed you are of being yourself for all these strangers online to see. It’s really good, at least for me personally, to hear and be reminded of the simple idea to just be ourselves and do what we like. It’s honestly so freeing and encouraging. It’s a good push for me to do my makeup and dress the way I like, simply because I like it. I don’t need to worry about what someone else thinks of it, or try to impress anyone, at least not everyday. Reminds me of my favorite quote from Peggy Carter, (fictional Marvel character) “I know my own value, anyone else’s opinion doesn’t really matter.”

I like what you said about not needing to follow trends. I agree with you, everyone should look at themselves and see what they truly like and dislike rather than what other people like. Before I started watching beauty videos I was influenced by my friend. I would buy whatever she raves about or we would go and buy the same makeup products together. And although it was fun buying things together, I came to realize that not everything she recommended worked for me. When I first started to watch beauty videos, I got mad whenever anyone didn't like something that I liked, and I was surprised whenever I didn't like a hyped-up product. Now I'm starting to finally I understand that we are all different when it comes to what we want and/or need. And I'm starting to figure out my own preference and I'm trying to take what other people say with a grain of salt whether they are people from the internet or from my personal life.

I love toe nails with a ruby slipper look! I would never wear that on my fingernails, but sparkling ruby red shimmery toe nails make me smile. Of the few brush sets that I have bought, I have given away most of the brushes in those with the exception of my Wayne Goss set, my rephr set and my recent BK Beauty set. They are all curated down to what I will actually use and I have my best set for home and my secondary set for travel, as I have that already packed for business travel (when that begins again!). I took your declutter videos to heart and downsized so much over the last year, but I do have a back up of my base skincare as I get it at cost and do bulk orders every six months. I'm a nurse and have to wear two (!) masks every day (an N95 and a regular surgical mask because we keep the N95 for 2 weeks). I haven't worn lipstick or foundation for about two months. I don't wear it when I go out either (to the grocery store or somewhere for plants) because I also wear a mask then. It has been so freeing, I would have NEVER gone to work without makeup in a million years before. I do wear eye makeup but my time getting ready is so much shorter now! Also, I don't dry and style my shoulder-length hair anymore--I have to wear it in a ponytail for the straps on the masks. It seriously takes me 45 mins less to get ready now. On the downside, I had combination skin before--now my skin is like an oil slick. Go figure.

Hi Jessica I am enjoying this video lots. Many months ago way before Covid I had in mind getting rid of unnecessary stuff we buy (mostly with no need of it, just for impulse, or because is a bargain). I found myself buying makeup and things I would end up never using or too much backup expired before I would have the chance to use it. I also realize how many chemicals are in most of the products we use and it's terrible how these can even attack your health and how poor animals are used for money and vanity. The beauty industry makes a lot of money by putting us into risk also. I'm decluttering everything in my home. I've learned that less (and only what's really necessary) is better for so many reasons. When we grow in age also we grow and concern of who we are, what surrounds us and what can we do for a better me and for a better environment, but most of all what lesson and values of life I want to gift my children and family. 🙋❤Hope you and yours have a great day. Thanks for sharing your videos.

I'm completely with you on the liquid lipstick, and I finally gave up trying to make it work on me, just because I like it on others. I love tinted balm-type lip products (that Revlon glass shine lipstick I bought because of you is amazing) because my lips are almost always dry. You guys are just so genuine and kind and have the same sense of humor as me. I love watching your videos. I've seen each one. Even ones that literally have nothing to do with me (like baby videos when you were pregnant) because it was like hanging out with a friend. While I've been in quarantine and working more from home, I have been rewatching a lot of your travel videos and daily vlogs and your declutters. It's funny how I have matured in many things in a way that you have as well. Whether that's because we're close in age (I'm 28) or just because we have similar tastes, but I have recently decluttered so much makeup I was keeping because I felt guilty I wasn't using or I was not into but had because of KZbin hype. I find myself very much hoping that I will find a guy who is as sweet and kind as Tylor to start a family with. I'm not sure why I'm telling you all of this, truthfully. I guess it is just a long way of saying: thank you. For being you and not changing on youtube like some youtubers. Thank you for being a friend. I have been collecting nail polish for years. I am that person with the nail polish rack (2 actually, 3 if I can ever get it put up)😕 I have used them all at least once. I am always adding new ones to my collection. And yes I use nail polish thinner when I need to. Just added a new essie polishb to my collection today as I loved the color and it was on clearance. I do de-clutter now and then. My granddaughters love it when I do, lol.

I like your tangents. My go to nail polish had always been Begotta Blackberry by OPI and Peacock by Wet N' wild. Those 2 colors are my holy grail. I use old nail polish to decorate mt bobby pins. Need a purple hair accessory...paint it purple and maybe ad a glitter top coat. Its a cheap way to accessorize as I already have the nail polishes.. It uses them up without disposing of them in a landfill to further contaminate the soil. I make the bobby pins for my friends whenever they ask. Also a great, easy afternoon project for young ladies wanting to be crafty.

I only bought the individual ones (those with 3 hairs that you have to place yourself and come in different sizes). I only use them to certain events, and prefere them because of the natural glam look they give, opposed to the obvious fake lashes.

I bought a pair of lashes from Primark a long time ago, people say that the lashes are good but the glue that comes with them sucks. I never tried them, never had that interest because I don't even like the feel of heavy lashes when a mascara leaves a lot of product with only 1 coat.

I’m done with the masks too! Especially the sheet masks. I am down to a good quick skin care routine and that’s good enough for me. I think as you get older you do start to realize what you are realistically going to use. This was great!

I agree with SO many of these. I definitely fell into the KZbin trap of needing and buying all the things, and to an extent, I do regret it...but I also, like you, learned who I am and what I like. My collection is still fairly large compared to some but Ive done a lot of decluttering over the years. Bless my husband's heart, he's seen me through all of the years of trying to figure this out, from mismatched foundation shades, to cake face to where I am now. Thanks for another great video Jess!

Quality over quantity.💗 I remember in a past video you mentioned you preferred buying single brushes these days. Since then, I’ve decided to buy single brushes I like, rather than sets with a bunch of brushes I won’t or will rarely use. It makes sense and it’s also less wasteful. Overall, I really liked this video. It’s getting me to also look at my other spending habits and getting me to think twice about how much I’d actually enjoy or use certain products on my wish lists. Sometimes we just need to hear that less is more and that we should try to be mindful about our purchases. Thanks!

I’m totally guilty of the nail polish thing. I just found my new fave color (Ella+Mila “Mediterranean Mist”) but I have so many I don’t use but I keep them just in case (I never get mine done professionally though) Also, I need to declutter my brushes (and clean them lol) But for makeup wipes, I use them for swatches and for bad symptom days (when fully washing my face is out of the question-gotta love the mental/chronic illness life) And now I’m masking so I can use it up and it’s a bonus for self care today

I was always buying big pallets and only using 4 shades but I had to get it cause KZbin was OBSESSED with it. After watching you and Dr.Drey my whole approach changed. I realized I don't need Sephoras skin care. All I needed was a strong sunblock and a really good skin lotion that works for body and face. Since I simplified my skin has looked younger, I don't need full coverage and I'm not spending so much money. Drugstore products are working better for me. Dr.Drey and you are the real change for me!

I’m so with you on the liquid lipstick. That’s all I wore for a couple of years and I’m completely over it now. I miss the convenience of not having to re-apply but it’s not worth the dryness and crinkly look. Edit. Actually I’m with you on all of these things 😂

I think the very medium of KZbin does actively encourage people to buy stuff, as we do live in a consumerist society. That being said, I think Jessica is one of the few youtubers who encourage you to be wise and think about what you purchase. From someone who spends too much on stuff in general, I think your position on this topic is really helpful. Good work! 😊

I’ve noticed my makeup habits have changed a lot too. I think you played a big part in that through your declutter videos. I used to do heavy coverage, full glam makeup every day and now even though I have acne, light to medium coverage concealers are more my style. I don’t really even wear eyeshadow anymore, so I got rid of all my big palettes. I like the small 4-6 pan eyeshadows now but even then I usually just sweep highlighter across my eyes and call it good. I don’t think I look good in the heavy looks anymore either. I used to wear black eyeliner under my eyes and now I could never pull that off. It’s interesting how tastes change. It’s a bummer about all the money I wasted, but I guess in the moment it brought me joy.

A lesson I learned last year while putting on my makeup looking at all the products I have; God made me a place to live (earth). A place to breathe and thrive. It’s my responsibility to take care of it. Having large amounts of makeup (or anything for that matter) that don’t get used and end up in landfills is not taking care of our beautiful earth. Let’s just say I’ve only repurchased makeup that I’ve completely used up since then (which isn’t much!) Great video, chica! 😊
