The F type is the most underrated car in the world....to me it is better than my old 911 turbo..way, way better looking (it is better looking than a Roma too....Roma owner had to concede this to me privately). Better made (996). Better sounding. The subsystems are Bosch...uber reliable car. Brakes are amazing. 99.999% of time people don't track..but they do need to eat and carry stuff and the coupe is amazing for getting stuff like food and moderate amounts of travel luggage. Tuned my v6 to 455hp (VAP). Put 265/305 conti dws06plus tires on it. Changed the plastic coolant pipes to metal...voila, reliable supercar I use every day in every weather including snow. :) Adding carplay to the old cars is easy...3-400 dollars....great to have waze and all the other stuff....navigation is suddenly current. For real world use, the Jaguar engineers nailed it. It is just fun every day. Porsches are too capable for the street so on the street they are boring now....not this F type. So if you want to have fun 99.99% of the time, the F type is your best option. For 0.01% (track), a Porsche is nice but so is a miata. The V6 sounds F1 and to me (biased) is more special since I am in the land of Ford Mustang V8's....and other V8's......the scream of the v6 with stock exhaust is unreal. 450hp is the sweet spot..you can use it all....550 or 575 gets into the partial throttle always lifestyle that leads to boredom...it is super fast but I am one of the types who has mechanical sympathy for the rear diff..... Great video.

Really sad that there is this misconception of Jags being unreliable, because I think it has cost them dearly in terms of sales. I own a 2010 XF and it still drives like new, and apart from a couple of minor niggles I've never had any issues in the 4 years I have owned it. I'm a member of various Jag forums and the opinion of most owners is the same. You can pick them up for next to nothing yet everybody goes for a BMW or an Audi. Their loss, but Jaguar's also. I'd love an F-Type and would buy one in a heartbeat but either the wife or the dog would have to go. Why there are not tens of thousands of these around I really do not know, why you would buy almost anything else for £25-30K or even way more is totally beyond me.
@Mat009322 күн бұрын
@@severnsea I wonder, too. I had the XF and the only things that sometimes hiccups was the multimedia console (electronic problems). Other than that it was reliable and I was sad to swap it after 4 years and 168km.
@gssf.gr2922 күн бұрын
Same here, I also have the 2010 model and all I've had to replace in 7 years is the front suspension arms, probably damaged by all the potholes we have here in the UK. It has just passed it's MOT (tough UK annual roadworthiness test here in the UK) with no problems. Look after them and they'll be fine, not like the current crop of new cars like Kia and Ford which are blowing engines and gearboxes after 15000 miles. What happens is you get idiots making videos who have never even owned it driven one banging in about how unreliable they are. There's one in here from a 15 year old kid who goes around dealers' lots reviewing cars, but he can't even drive so doesn't even get the keys to the car - and he's advising people what to buy and what to leave alone. Several others and countless comments from kids who aren't old enough to have owned a car for more than a year let alone have enough experience to be able to review a whole range of them yet somehow they get the views and everybody believes them.

I have an all black Santorini 2015 R with the optional carbon blade wheels. As for the handling each wheel is monitored every 500 milliSecs and it does have torque braking, so driving around a tight bend it brakes the inside wheels and drives the outer wheels, whilst monitoring each wheel as you go. This is quite good for spirited driving but I feel as if it removes the individual from the dynamics of the cars' handling and hence enjoyment. (The tech involved was what was banned from F1 back in the 90's where Williams had the system and trounced the field, so I believe). I agree on the steering wheel being big, but mine does have the flat bottom which makes it look smaller at least. I was put off by this wheel when looking & sitting in lesser models. Another important aspect as well is to ensure your 4 wheel alignment is good I had an issue where the front near side tyre was wearing more than others. In a nutshell the car does make me smile most of the time and I feel great in it and get a lot of appreciative smiles, it's British not German. Oh & btw to all F-Type owners be limited on the pops & bangs as this is unspent fuel burning in the exhaust which may degrade the cats quicker!

Just to let you know; 1/ the reason the values open over 3000 rpm was because you were in dynamic. If you had gone to normal drive mode the valves would have remained shut through the Rev range when switched off. 2/ most Rs have the nicer flat bottomed wheel. 3/ The RWD R is the rare monster that is lighter and breaks traction at the drop of a hat (and will try to kill you in the wet). It’s the one to have on a dry road with the traction control off! 4/ the ceramic brake option is epic.
@toastybuddy87433 ай бұрын
negative on #1 for a 2016 R (US). Opens around 4k and up during heavier throttle, in 'normal' exhaust mode. With exhaust button pressed it's loud all the time. Dynamic defaults to loud exhaust mode, but it can be turned off in dynamic, at which point it opens 4k+. This is almost surely different depending on year and market i would imagine... and my valve might be tired so maybe it's slow to open. #4 is very true. no real down sides except cost. no cold braking issues or excessive noise really either. no fade, no dust 👍
@Bluebottle_GB3 ай бұрын
@@toastybuddy8743 Correct - the car in the vid is mine, valves open automatically above 3k RPM. If you press the exhaust button they'll be open all the time (if you sit at the back and listen carefully you can hear the vacuum actuators turn them when the button is pressed by someone in the car). They need looking after with a bit of copper slip or similar so that they don't seize up, the problem being here a combination of speed restrictions and the mighty engine meaning that lots of people won't be getting to 3k before they hit the speed limit. Add in British damp weather and the chance of seizure increases markedly.
@toastybuddy87433 ай бұрын

Looks like that car is in Santorini black. I have a '16 3.0S manual trans coupe in that color, not as fast but lighter, still overkill for the twisty roads of New Hampshire, USA, where I live. Great sound too, I keep it in dynamic mode, the exhaust valve is always open. My car has all the options, 32,000 miles now, only goes out on the good days. In the US we don't have that silly airbag thing that pops the bonnet up, I think hitting the engine would be the least of a pedestrian's worries. Perhaps if British roads had cleared shoulders/verges so people could step off the pavement fewer of them would be hit, instead thick vegetation grows right up to the pavement, there is nowhere for walkers or cyclists to go.

I have a 2015 F-Type R, but I drive an SUV on a daily basis, which keeps my F-Type pristine and more special on the times I do take it out, maybe once or twice a week when the weather is good. It sleeps in the garage through the Winter. Most manufacturers, Porsche included, as making their bread and butter on SUVs, and many are going full electric now. These high-power ICE cars are becoming dinosaurs, unfortunately. It makes me sad, and I only pray that more progress is made in the development and cost reduction of synthetic fuels so that we can continue to run our ICE cars in an environmentally friendly manner. I would hate to think that EVs are our long-term future.

The F-Type was just a bit too focused for my liking. Seems like Jag targeted 911 track performance as their benchmark and left much of the Jag legacy in the bin. I ultimately purchased an XK as it's more refined, comfortable, curvy; like the Jags of old, yet it seems particularly well balanced when pushed to the limits. I'm equally thrilled to be behind the wheel of the XK rippin' through the 'Tail of the Dragon' or pulling into my favorite restaurant for dinner. The XK is a class act that is tough to beat and I think it appeals to a much wider audience. Yes, the XK is slower than the 911, but when you drive a Jag do you really care?

I do like the rear end styling, but the front looks a bit plain and gawky. They are certainly fast enough, but are they really a sports car ? I see them more as a GT car. No way are they a 'supercar beater', not in the same league. The majority of true sports cars will leave this for dead in the corners, and cornering is what a sports car should be about. Outright acceleration means nothing these days, there are dozens of SUV's that can beat this from a standstill, so 0-60 times mean nothing, because SUV's are not sports cars either. I looked at a few of these, when I contemplated my current car, but I didn't think the interior was that great, and the car just felt heavy and a bit numb. I couldn't quite stretch to a Cayman GT4, which would have been my ideal purchase, and a genuine real sportscar, so I got myself an M2. I made the right choice, it IS a real sports car.

You probably skimped on the tyres. I've owned the RWD F Type R for seven years and it's very predictable you just need to be competent with throttle control.

I couldn’t come to terms with swapping the P car for an F Type so I guess it’s one car that I never get to own but I can live with that I suppose.

My brutally honest review of this car: An alluring design, lovely noise.. and great as a trans Germany /continent crosser. But -I know it's an old man argument- but where can you really use that sort of insane engine power in the UK? Car companies spectacularly miss the point of what enthusiasts really want by making such overengineered, excessively overpowered, complex and high maintenance sports cars... It doesn't sound as good, but the 2.0 litre F Type has got all the power you'd ever need in the real World. Hell a 1.5 litre Miata or VW Up GTI would be more driving fun. You can actually drive them on public country roads at something approaching their limits. Plus the bills won't be as insane!

Maintenance on that engine is really much better than you'd expect, as long as you don't skip any. What is usable about that car in that guise is the low down torque, you can overtake really easily and safely on a good A/B road. Plus the shove comes in really low down, so you don't need to be at 6000rpm before the fun starts like you do in many other more highly strung sports cars.

Whys this costing £2400 to insure with 15 years no claims. Is it still a thief magnet. This was 100k when released. Not with that interior 😂. The new MG is a bargain and faster at 3.4. no sound though

My neighbour across the road in London had his stolen twice in18 months. After the first time I told him to put a lock on the steering wheel which he did. Then wake up to hear them cutting it off. There's a guy in the drivers seat plugging a computer in. Tried to chase them off (there were 3 guys) but they started the car and drove off. I woke up the neighbour and he got it back fast because he called the tracking company and they had dumped it close by.

Facelift models look 100% better

Tough one. I completely agree, at a glance, the new one is far nicer. But, as these have aged, I actually prefer the original design. It feels more pure - it was what was originally penned - and more challenging. Part of what makes the new one pretty is that it feels a bit like pop music - easy to like, but easy to forget. The original is flawed, cold, british - and more unique and characterful as a result.
@haydnd27643 ай бұрын
Judging looks of a car is obviously subjective. But the original design was definitely the best. The headlight design beautifully defines the big-eyed cat (Jaguar) look, sooo much better than the slitty eyes of the facelift.

Every faster rusts, all the subframes and components underneath rot… the quality is not there. The fuel economy is near 20mpg average with normal use. Dealers are crap. It feels heavy/leaden, both in steering and suspension feel/control. Lacks storage and the boot is very tiny. Sounds great if a little too loud in dynamic. Good fun but certainly not with out fault/issues.
