Amazing result for the 3.6. The secret is to keep the speed down as the L322 shape is not very aerodynamic. As soon as you start nudging 70 it really drops off fast and if you can keep it 60-65 they will reward you with this kind of distance. In almost any other car going that speed feels like you are wasting time but in an L322 it’s time we’ll spent.

True also one thing people forget that Diesel cars can still continue to drive for an additional couple extra miles due to diesel engines burning the fuel and running on fumes unlike petrol engines that straight up run from the fuel itself not the fumes from the get go

I used to have a 3.6 one of these. A truly wonderful car. Money no object and only allowed one car for the rest of my life, it would be a Range Rover. It’s harmed by the fuel consumption and tax cost. Servicing doesn’t need to be too expensive if you can DIY the basics and have a good independent specialist. Generally the car did about 26mpg over the ten years with the car but I did an economy run a few times and got her to 40mpg. Tricks were as Joel suggested, minimal acceleration so the turbos don’t spool up, anticipation, observation and using manual gear mode so you can select a high gear ASAP and lock it in.

hi joel, I work on land rovers/range rovers daily, so maybe this is why you was in my recommended videos, I could waffle on for hours about the advantages and dis-advantages of the various models, And don't even mention the Ingenium engines..... anyway, point I'm trying to make is, indeed the L322 , is by far the best Range rover ever built. Other than the regular maintenance, the occasional suspension pump, and odd pair of turbos, the 3.6 engine is near enough bomb proof. Im in my 27th year as a vehicle tech, I currently rebuild at least 3 engines a month, but never had to do the 3.6. plenty of l405 3ltrs, 4.4ltrs, 2ltr ingeniums, odd belt fail, oil pump fails on the 2.7. and we currently have an SVR in with failed timing, and valve to piston damage on the flagship 5ltr. sorry for waffling, you've earned a new subscriber, keep up the good content.

@@warrengeew The occasional reliable one is a unicorn and doesn't represent the ownership experiences of a overwhelming majority of owners. Owner's forums, reliability surveys, surveys of aftermarket warranty companies etc. all show them to be some of, if not the most, problematic vehicles on the road. Even in the UK they are #31 out of #31 marques surveyed in a recent survey. Their reputation was not earned by the company producing vehicles with stellar reliability and durability year after year.

Fun video! Most cars still have 4-5 L in reserve when the fuel gauge and display are on zero, more so for diesels as an empty tank can be damaging. Designed so you should never run out of fuel! Same for the speedo which invariably reads too high.

Great video and well done. A word of warning regarding the "hands free" fueling technique. It's unsafe. The fuel filler is designed to be held onto throughout the fill so that the user is earthing the car so that static doesn't build up. Letting go and then making contact again can result in a static spark and explosion from the fuel vapour. Some countries have hands free fueling and explosions from static sparks do occur.

Very well put together video, well done! Out of interest, did you work out pen and paper MPG vs. what the car told you?
@neilmckay86492 жыл бұрын
He mention 33.5 mpg, which I take to be the RR display. My calculation on his 700 miles and 93.83 litres 33.9 mpg.

Excellent video Joel. Subscribed for a while and wish you every success. I have a D4 that I’m converting to a camper but I so nearly went the L322 as I want a V8 again…. Just couldn’t justify the tax costs. The government obviously want these off the road but they are magnificent. Come on Land Rover…start communicating with Joel…..There are plenty of future customers watching this excellent content. Congrats Joel on your achievement and to your continued success.

Do it all the time Joel,I have a place up in the north of Scotland 858 mile round trip. My l322’s eat the miles and return me around 32 miles to the gallon.

Class looking motor! In the absence of a proper infrastructure to support evs,diesel is still king.
