I had no clue you are a meteorologist. Thanks for sharing your views on climate change - no disagreement here....very well put. On a related matter, I wish more attention was focused on messaging (what in my mind is) THE most important "quality of life" improving attribute of EV's - AIR QUALITY! This benefit alone should compel the world to adopt EV's. Big oil cannot debate this as it is FACT. Particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), unburned hydrocarbons (UHC like benzene, toluene, xylene), and greenhouse gases (water vapor, CO2, N2O, etc.) are all emitted from ICE tailpipes. We all breath it, some more than others depending on where you live. Toxic, (or at least unnatural concentrations of emission) components get into the soil and water and the fish - into the ecosystem AND, they may accelerate the rate of global climate change! Please people, spread this message as a vital reason for change to and adoption of BEVs. Of course, hand in hand with EV's is renewable energy development so that the emission is not just transferred from moving to stationary sources.

The stalk makes sense. I occasionally needed to signal direction while making a turn. I had to think about which button to press instead of going with my instinct.

Drive-by-wire would solve this because the steering wheel never turns more than 90 degrees from center.

It is a fact that from all Tesla factories, Fremont is by far the worst in terms of quality. Here in Europe, for many years now we get all Model 3s from China and Model Y usually from Berlin (maybe the first batch of new Model Ys will come from China, though). And we have way less problems with those Model 3s than with those that came over to Europe before from Fremont. Also the quality of S and X are substantially sub-par compared to the Teslas coming from China and Berlin.

It is still and oldest Tesla factory by many years and with some tented buildings. Before Tesla bought it it was Chevrolet and then Toyota partnered with Chevrolet producing a the New United Motors Plant which locals sarcastically referred to as the Toylet ...

To be honest, that what was learned from the first Fremont models was to a degree implemented in both the later Chinese and US versions. But maybe not everything. They both constantly improve. So, a later model will always have less imperfections than an earlier one, not matter where it was built.

Hey Kim. Joe Schmo here, from the Midwest. Yes, I have worked in IT my entire career and am very tech savvy. There are several more of us out here too, no matter what you think. I have adapted and love the push button turn signals and no I don’t crave buttons. At least you like the Model Y, your hubby is a little bit of a hater. Personally I hated the old Model Y look as it seemed way too bubble topped for me. The new Y is the same height but looks more streamlined to me. Beauty, of course, is in the eye of the beholder. As with all Teslas though, the magic of a Tesla is on the inside, ie the software/FSD, which will always keep me in a Tesla.

I use my model y also for towing. I have to charge about every 100 miles. Also if the batteries were bigger you would charge less. This means the cycle life would be less and your battery would last even longer. I also have a 2017 fiat 500e that I bought really cheap for commuting a few years back. This battery gets cycled every day mon-fri. Probably around 250 times a year. Where as the Tesla we probably are close to 120 times a year. So keep that in mind when thinking about range.

I’m in UK, not yet a T driver but fully on board with buttonless user interface - except for horn, hazard flashers, turn indicators and windscreen wipe. I’ll be ok with windscreen wipe not having a button once they solve detection and auto-wipe. But turn indicators are a must while we still drive manually some of some of the time, it super important for safe/efficient navigation

As an owner of a '23, this refresh is enough for me. It's actually a little more than I expected as I figured it would mimic the Highland stylistically. The improvements in ride quality/NVH will further solidify this as the ultimate per dollar vehicle. I was considering stepping up to a Gravity, but the newest version of FSD (12.6 for HW3) is so good, I can't go back to a daily driver without it. I love to drive, but rush hour traffic at the end of a long day isn't fun for anyone. FSD can drive me from the parking lot of my office to the driveway of my home (approx 25 miles) with little to no interventions now.

Tesla really needed the front camera, so I'm glad it is there now. But it also needs cameras under the mirrors so it can do the birds eye view, or 360 view. If you have ever used that on another car it's a hard thing to do without when driving a Tesla, all the other luxury cars have it. $50 for two more cameras. If not for FSD I would buy something else that has it like the Equinox or Blazer (with a NACS charging port of course)

As we know, this release is for the Asian-Pacific countries which source from Shanghai. This includes countries such as Australia and New Zealand which should be easy to compare fuel economy for given they've already got clear fuel economy figures for both the old and new Model Y. The stalks are clear on all of those markets and it's a must. In Australia I am frequent travelling through roundabouts. The rule for indicating in Australia in roundabouts is left for left, right for right but also left for exiting. For these movements the wheel is often in a heavily turned position when needing to indicate and it's difficult (and non intuitive given sometimes the wheel is upside down) to perform an indication correctly. This is why it's a must to have a stalk, because this is always in the movement of the steering wheel.

My first (and only) Tesla is a 2018 Model 3. The Model Y was not yet out and the Model S and X were way out of budget. I have wanted to upgrade is to a Model Y for a year or so but I really didn’t want to get the exact same car that everyone else is driving. Once I saw what they put into the Model 3 refresh, I knew I was going to wait. The exterior of the Model Y looks different and that’s all I really wanted. I am sure there will also be third party exterior modifications available quickly - I added a body color wing on my model 3 because I didn’t like the trunk shape. I’m most looking forward to having an easier time getting in and out of the car, but also can’t wait to experience the smoother and quieter ride. The extra space is going to remove any remaining reason to use my larger car for a task. I will be ordering a white AWD Model Y on the first day the US sales open - even if it’s a bit more for a ‘launch’ edition. I don’t even mind that the FSD transfer option is gone - I’ll just use the standard EAP.

The new Juniper Y is fantastic. If not V to L/G/E, no new Tesla for me. I would rather stay with Tesla, be it MUST have V to L minimum, and I want V to G/E. I also wanted a MUCH softer ride and moew ground clearance. Much plusher seats with message air cooled heated seats. Also, 11.5 kw V to V would be great. A "gas" can for EVs! 100 kwh battery pack would be great for long road trips. Also, the rear hitch is a must since I no longer keep a pick-up around.😊

Re the NACS rollout, the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 has native NACS but the idiots put the charger port on the passenger side rear meaning it will take up 2 charge stalls in most Supercharger locations. Also, it only allows max 120ish kw charging at Superchargers meaning it will be there longer while taking up 2 stalls. I see fistacuffs at congested urban Supercharger locations in the future. I don't think that the desire to have at least (some) physical buttons in an EV is limited to drivers who've never driven an electric car before. There's plenty of comments lamenting the lack of physical buttons in an EV from professional EV journalists/enthusiasts and ordinary EV drivers [new & old] alike, and plenty of praise for when they (are) included. It primarily surrounds a desire to NOT have to look through a menu for the basics of temperature, sound, and indicator controls, and the driver distraction safety issue that screen only controls can represent. There's also a lot of criticism of what is often mentioned as frustrating, fiddly, & not particularly responsive haptic steering wheel buttons; it tends to drivers absolutely nuts.

Please do an episode looking at sales data by US region (and other means) to tell us whether Elon’s intense politics are hurting sales or not. Investors are very anxious about this.

Don't buy into the FUD. Tesla sold ~633k EV in the US.. 2nd place sold about 110k... where is the sale hurt? Are you going to ignore the high interest rate on loans? Tesla's are just average $45k. Not cheap.

The logic at 6:35 doesn't hold. If 70 parts = 1 part now... a dent would need to replace that whole big part and cost much more. The simplified part casting definitely makes them easier and cheaper to build, but the downside of that is that they will be much more expensive to repair as you aren't just replacing a few parts but instead have to replace half the car to fix a fender bender.

Since they have tesla insurance too, they have an excuse to raise the price. Double profit.

I haven’t heard this logic supported by teardown experts like sandy munro. When you have a hundred welded together stampings you don’t replace a few like a broken engine component. Frame straightening happens on a large metal rack and there are demonstrations of this on castings on KZbin.

@michaelsmithers4900 i mean the existing models and their giga casting is already super expensive because you cant just swap out a quarter panel like most cars. Making it even more unibody seems like now you need to replace entire chunks of the car to fix it. Don't see how that will make repairs cheaper but fingers crossed.

The new model Y is a good deal. Interesting they only have the 20" wheels available in Australia for the launch edition. Will the Y be the new X for RHD markets? A budget model Y coming soon?
