Aptera's efficiency and solar panels make it ideal for apartment dwelling commuters. Most Americans aren't going to have a home charger or convenient access to a charger for a long time yet. I wish you had included the Telo Truck in your tier list. They are in the early part of the development journey, they have been testing a proof of concept chassis and are building a prototype, but they have a killer differentiator, a really small pickup. The Telo is cab forward, like Canoo, and is able to pack a four door cab and a 60 inch pickup bed in a 152in X 73in footprint. The truck also has a fold down rear seat and a midgate, so it could actually carry 4ft X 8ft sheets of plywood in the bed. It can do most of the things a modern pickup is used for with the main exception being rural cosplay.

Xiaomi, a consumer electronics company, is new in the auto industry and just debuted last year with one EV car, the SU7. And in just 24 hours it racked up 88k pre-orders. Even better, by the end of 2024, they delivered 130k. They also became the 5th most valuable car brand by market capitalization behind Tesla, Toyota, BYD, and Ferrari. So, yes new EV companies can succeed. They just need to produce a product that has power, lots of tech features, very good range, and the most important of all, a reasonable price.

ABSOLUTELY New EV companies can succeed, but they absolutely must offer "unique", "attractive" and "different" products that are priced low enough for the consumer to afford. I used to hate Tesla for their bland interiors, but now I understand that they do it to make the cars inexpensively and so they are more reliable as there aren't many points of failure. Model 3 and Model Y prices dropping below $30,000 is a great thing for first time car buyers/ students who can charge on campus or at home. The "luxury EV" depreciate extremely quick and the technology constantly changes - necessitating people to suffer psychological obsolescence. I like the new luxury EV using recycled materials and ocean plastics to make new trendy interiors while simultaneously cleaning the environment and reducing waste.

A little bit of constructive criticism, I think this video could stand to have a more defined premise. It could be ranking the quality of the design, it could be ranking who has the best shot at sticking around, it could be ranking strategy and how each company tried to differentiate their product, and so on. It felt like it was all of the above at which point I don't know what the takeaway is supposed to be. Additionally, I think it could have used a little more background research. Canoo for instance has had their remaining staff on a "mandatory unpaid break" since mid-December and as of three days ago have completely pulled their website.

@@davidtheinspector There are far too many people, as I suspect this commenter is, who judge something based on its ability to perform the 1% niche need in their life, instead of what they require in a vehicle 99% of the time. The problem with EV startups is since EV’s cost so much to build, they try to justify the super high prices by going all in on luxury, but at that point there’s still probably not much range (comparatively) and much more attractive/established gas-powered (or some EVs) that are already out there that come with more reliability and support, and then you’re also not acting as essentially a beta user

All of these cars are F tier, I'm sorry. There's a heck of a lot more than goes into being successful in the EV space than just making 3 prototypes and begging for money. * getting a consistent source of quality batteries * actually delivering a car with great performance and not a bunch of weird issues (I'm looking at you, Fisker) * setting up dealerships, service centers, the things necessary to make a person spending $90K on a car feel that they won't be abandoned afterward * building a charging network (who are we fooling? If they were smart, they'd build it to the NACS standard) * a differentiator - Tesla, Rivian and Lucid are becoming mature now. What would these companies do that's a. different and b. compelling enough to make me choose them over established EVs? I predict even LEGACY automakers will either have to merge or go bankrupt in the next ten years. How will these vaporware companies succeed? The answer is, they won't.
