What are your must-bring items for cold weather camping?

I'm now on my second pop up, and the reflectix and pop-up gizmos are MUST HAVES for me now. It's incredible the difference those two things make in helping maintain temp in the bunkends.

we completely renovated a 94 pop up from the frame up - new walls, new floors, new electric, etc. Our Electric is powered by both solar and generator, but we don't have enough power for a space heater. We ended up getting a buddy heater and found it worked wonders. We camped in bellow freezing temperatures and even got hot! That thing is seriously amazing!

We have owned 2 different pop-ups and we enjoyed them. ( Me more than my wife tho ! ) We were always hooked to shore power and found that an ordinary electric blanket worked just fine for keeping that mattress warm. Keeping the inside temp just below the condensation level was ideal for us. Always cooked outside as far as food. Had a cassette toilet that worked well for us also. Thanks for your informative vids!

Extra Blankets! Throw Blankets make great wall coverings for insulation and visual aussthetics if they are graphic ones. Also, cool to touch ceramic space heaters. Handy heater keeps (in our case) toes nice and toasty but will shut off if it gets kicked or bumped. *watch for safety features, they may save a life*

Headlamps are great for setting up in the dark because the light is directed wherever your face is pointing toward....and your hands are free to work with. With LED lights, they can be bright and yet the batteries last a long time.

I have an co/ smoke detector. The same one as I have at home. If you are using a buddy type of heater you will need a co detector. It can save your life.

We have a Rockwood Freedom 1640LTD that came with the heated mattresses. They work great. We only use them at half power to warm up turn down to low (use flannel sheets and a heavy unzipped sleeping bag as a comforter) when we go to bed. Just need a light hat or cap so we keep the camper heat off or really low at night.

We have the heated mattresses that came with our2016 Flagstaff MAC. We used them on a chilly night in SD recently. They definitely cut down on the cold that can come up through the bunk ends, but not so warm that you got hot - if that makes sense. We also have a down comforter that we keep in our camper. Makes for cozy sleeping.

We do camping until mid October here in Quebec, Canada and we do get some cold temperatures in the mid 20's. Since we are off grid we do need propane but for a long weekend with 2 bottles we are OK for running the furnace and the fridge. We do have a spare battery just in case and the hooked battery is also connected to a 40 W solar panel to maintain the power in it. But I will sure try the Reflectick stuff in our bunk ends to see how it works on cooler nights.

ElectroWarmth bunk heating pads. 6amps max draw. I have used them and only used it on the lowest two setting. After lvl 3 it got to hot. The heat fills in between the mattress and the blankets. It is 12 volt so plugs right into a jackery battery system or if you have a 12 volt plug in your pop up. I will use the propane heater just to warm up the pop up in the morning if needed.

They also make click together foam tiles with carpet. We put it throughout our camper for the winter and it made a HUGE difference. The bed heaters are awesome, but adding a chill chaser to the AC made almost no difference to the interior temps.

We camp in every season in our mid Atlantic state as well as in adjacent states. We have never winterized our campers, but kept a quartz heater in the under storage of our 5th wheel rv. Now we have a pop up and there are many water lines and no good place to keep quartz heaters running efficiently. We store our camper on our driveway, exposed to the elements. We did buy a cover for our popup to protect it from bird bombers and uv rays. I dont want to have to not camp in cooler times. I guess I will have to try different methods to keep our water lines free of freeze damage.

Thanks for the tips. We had a house fire and then flood so now my son and I are in our old camper I use to go camping in as a kid and the nights are getting pretty cold here in Michigan. Idk how long we will be in here so I want to be prepared. Tonight is the coldest night yet. He isn't cold being in the middle bed but I'm on one of the ends. My cat has learned where the heater is and likes to get on the edge of the bed when the heater is blowing. It has only gotten cold recently and I was wondering how long 2 tanks of propane usually lasts if anyone knows?? We first turned it on with whatever leftovers propane was in the old tanks. They were so old that when we went to get them filled they were out of date.

Heated mattresses are nice when the temps drop under 40 degrees, but if a small quartz heater is running at same time, the 15 amp breaker needs to be reset often

Try running a separate extension cord to the electrical box, bypassing the pop up’s internal circuit breaker.

Hey there! Thanks SO much for the videos. I always find something new. Can you tell me what state you are in? Also, how is the pvc tube for your supports working out? Think I will try the same on my Coachman Classic 1285sst. Love the sliding storage bins in the front but such a hassle to dig those supports out.
@ItsPoppin4 жыл бұрын
We are in the mid-west. The pvc storage tube has been working out well thus far. Another commenter recommended using a lubricant on the threads, which was a very helpful tip. I used silicone on one side and white lithium on the other to test then out and both seem to work well to reduce the threads from binding.
