I think the emotional spectrum is a fascinating expansion concept for the Lantern umbrella. I think so personally because at the time I was getting into DC comics back in '07 I picked up Green Lantern Rebirth and have been a huge GL fan ever since. It paved the way for a lot of ideas, plots and characters over the last several years now :)

The emotional spectrum is a cool concept that elves a lot for the writer to really make up what they want if they are creative enough. Blue is my fav but i would love to see a pink lantern fueled by revenge

Well Kyle as a white lantern can refill the reservoir and the blue light of hope is the most powerful light but like you said can't reach their full potential without a green lantern present and in turn can overcharge green lanterns. Blue can also dissolve greed, rage and fear just how red dissolves green energy.

Elmar A. Hannah and ItsSuperEffective: I, too, like the Indigo Tribe and Violet Lantern or Star Sapphire Corps. I find it very interesting that the indigo power staff and ring can imbue compassion to its wielder. The Indigo Tribe's oath is the only oath spoken in an untranslatable language. Related to the first point, Abin Sur and Natromo purposefully created the Tribe from various psychopaths the former met, such as Indigo-1, the leader of the Tribe. Before she became Indigo-1, she was known as Iroque, and was the one who killed Abin Sur's daughter, thus becoming his greatest enemy. According to Natromo, Abin Sur chose to create the Tribe from psychopaths because he needed an army for the Blackest Night. It makes sense for the Indigo Tribe to have the ability to channel the abilities of the other emotions in the emotional spectrum because compassion means, "sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortune of others" and has the connotation of "suffering with" or "fellow suffering". This makes it an empathetic emotion and it is from here that the unique ability originates. As for the Star Sapphires, I like them because they're the warriors of love. Usually, the love that's being channeled is eros, as its the most passionate of the four (eros, philia, storge, and agape), but I hope that the writers will show examples of the other three types of love.

Zephyr Chan I must congratulate you on a fantastic breakdown of those two corps. Bravo. A very interesting read. And I must say, after I finished two semesters of psychology, I am really interested in seeing a Violet Lantern that is powered by his/her philia love. Seeing someone (maybe a male Violet Lantern) joining the corps because of his love for a friend. Although I feel like only four of the four loves would fit a Violet Lantern, that being storge, philia and eros. But the final one, agape, is unconditional love and sounds more like a Indigo Lantern. Not bound to one or a few people but to everyone regardless of circumstance. But this is just from a basic understanding of psychology and it sounds like you have a bit more. Can you eleborate more for me, telling me perhaps if my connection between the Indigos and agape is just in my head or if there is anything there?

Hannah: What you stated about the large overlap between agape and compassion is true, although I would say that as compassion is the empathetic concern for another's suffering, it provides the drive to help alleviate the suffering or pain of others; whereas agape doesn't seem to be limited to that. I mean, agape is the selfless love that is passionately committed to the well-being of the other, regardless of who he/she is and thus, includes but is not limited to compassion. I may not have studied psychology, but to me, agape is the broader concept.

Suppose I could be wrong, but all white lanterns can access the powers of the entire spectrum, save death can't they? Which makes sense due to white being all colors mixed save black. That being said, I think it'd be cool to make a grey(or silver/platinum for a more elegant look) lantern corps in the future. But only the most worthy of ALL the corps gets the honor to wield that ring. Interesting concept yes?

Unless you're specifically askin Faust, that's hard to say really. Pretty sure in the end it'd have to be Superman and Captain Marvel(Shazam) as some refer to him. Not for their power, but both just have childlike innocent moralities, hope in all situations, resolve, protect their team and people at selfless whims, and sense of justice. I imagine cuz maybe it's the only one of that part of the spectrum, so if it did, oj would be lost, possibly disrupting the spectrum overall, and you can't have a white w/o all other colors right? Just a guess.

Rage, Greed, Fear, Willpower, Hope, Compassion, Love. It always annoyed me that the spectrum lacks some important emotions like happiness, and despair. Though I suppose it could be argued that the spectrum itself sits on a range of emotions that can cause despair or happiness in oneself and others.

Well, the highest form of happiness can be considered love. The highest point of fear can be considered despair. They picked the main emotions that have within themselves various levels that in turn contain each of the degrees of the emotion in question.

I think when you experience love you automatically feel happy to some degree. In my opinion any positive emotion, such as confidence, peace, enthusiasm is an aspect of love. I think love has every positive emotion inside of it.

nfcoard Hmm, interesting, though it really depends on the kind of love. Romantic love can be quite... dark. Take the movie 'Misery' for example, or the anime 'Future Diary'. Your response also brings up a different train of thought to mind. Compassion requires love. Not necessarily the romantic type, it can be familial, friendly, likes, and even the general love of everything. No one cares about something they don't love/like even a little. Kinda makes forcing compassion on villians in the indigo tribe a bit of a logical and emotional paradox. Then again, people are willing to believe anything, even lies, so long as they feel they are right, or gain, for doing so.

zetsumeinaito In my opinion no kind of love is ever dark. If "love" is ever dark then there is some sort of negative emotion in the mix - probably some type of fear. In a huge number of cases what people call romantic love or "falling in love" is not really love at all, but a person thinking that someone they are in love with can fulfill one or more of their desires or needs. And when the person they are in love with fails to live up to their expectations and fulfill their desire or desires they "fall out of love" and the romantic relationship ends. Love is unconditional. It is it's own reward and doesn't want anything back in return for what it just expressed or gave. If a person truly loves you then they will ALWAYS love you. Compassion is an emotion that arises because of a deep caring about another person's well-being and a desire to remove their suffering. Some people are capable of loving/caring about their enemies so I guess they could send the energy of compassion towards the villains. Who obviously need the love otherwise they wouldn't be villains in the first place. lol

You can have your ideals about love, but any kind of love that isn't pure altruism has tinges of other emotions mixed in. Needs some lust for that romance, Need some reverence for that fanaticism. It's worth saying, the love you give your wife is different than the love you give your mom, unless you're unhealthy. The concept is a big can of worms, as emotions are complex and some people just don't have the capacity to feel, deal with, or understand some or all of their emotions. There's too much variability when it comes to this topic as I can agree and disagree. It fits some, but not all people and/or situations. I suppose it's just one of those things to keep in mind when trying to handle others. Close. but to force your will on another out of compassion is a paradox. It's like batman killing the Joker. Something that shouldn't be a thing.

No worries Adam. It was explained down the road in later issues upon when Saint Walker met up with Hal Jordan where he had explained how the Blue Lantern's rings work. While they are powerful, they come at a cost, which is fine since personally it's good to have a handicap sometimes, in fairness.
