Because it was really tough to keep a child still in a recording booth, the voice directors just followed Boo’s voice actor around the recording studio with a mic, throwing in whatever speech felt appropriate for the scene. Some of these voice clips were reused in Inside Out for toddler Riley

Fun fact: After the release of this film, It had a prequel called Monsters University released 11 years later, taking place before the events of this film. However, there was originally supposed to be a sequel called, "Monsters Inc, 2: Lost in Scaradise", taking place a year after this film. It was going to be about Mike and Sulley surprising Boo at her birthday, however she's not there and they realize she's has most likely moved somewhere, so they decide to travel to the open human world to go find her. The film was cancelled after Disney-owned sequel rights were moved to Pixar.

There were loads of abandoned early storylines for Monsters Inc. In one, Boo was going to be a 10-yo. whose brothers were always playing practical jokes on her, and when she finds her way into Monster World, she thinks it's their best "joke" yet, and tries to pull the "costume" off of Sully.

One of the funniest coincidences of my life was the first time I went to Disney land my little sister was the same age as Boo, additionally, and completely coincidentally, my sister had a pink shirt and two pony tails exactly what Boo was wearing. Funny details: 1) Have you noticed that Sulley's chair has a hole for his tail? Now that is comfort, I'd say! 2) There's a trailer where Mike and Sulley play charades and Mike cannot guess 'Harry Potter' (it was shown before the first HP movie, I guess) 3) One of the magazines (alas, don't remember the moment) contains the Scare Different motto (a reference to Think Different)

Personally, I think Turbo/King Candy is the best twist villain. King Candy’s reveal to being Turbo was the most unexpected, no hints made it clear that he was the actual mastermind the whole time. Waternoose comes close though, I will say that.

In the Monsters Inc universe, the monsters beleve humans carry deadly disease and viruses. They still need the scream energy, so being a scarer is seen as noble but dangerous job, like firefighting. Obviously the movie proves this germaphobia is not actually justified, but by this point the paranoia is so deeply ingrained that most monsters will avoid humans like the plague. (personally I think what happened is at some point a scarer brought back a germ the monsters weren't immune to and it resulted in a pandemic. They never fully recovered mentally and treat everything from the human world as another potential plague catalist)

Fun Fact: movies like King Kong 1933, a number of Ray Harryhausen films and other monster movies served as an inspiration to this film. The restaurant Harryhausens is named after Ray Harryhausen. And 16 years later John Goodman (the voice of Sully) would star in the 2017 King Kong film Kong: Skull Island.
