The most unique junction I ever saw, and dammit I couldn't record it so it's almost certainly lost forever, was when a programme failed to go on air. After a little dead air, it went back to the roto sequence. First, the caption read the standard "Follows Shortly" message. Then, after a few minutes, a succession of live captions were generated, apologising for the break in transmission and announcing a significantly later time and date when the programme would air. The tight timings obviously meant that it couldn't air, even if it had been restored, once a certain short amount of time had passed. The roto and the announcement just went on and on, twenty minutes or more, no replacement show filled the gap. In the strict routine world of ITV Schools on 4, that was one of the most significant events in its history. And I didn't capture it. :-(

Do you know anyone else that has a recording on that?

@@laurenceodell2718 Unfortunately, not. I'd love to see it again, myself. Likelihood is, it's completely lost to history.

I actually came here as I remembered one specific time that the animation just went on and on and on for what seemed like forever (to young me) so I just googled longest every ITV schools junction and ended up here, I wonder if this was the same incident you describe? woulda been 1990 to 1994 ish. I bet there is someone in TV nostalgia circles who would know!

Great upload, one of the best from the 87-93 era that's been on YT. There's something about watching 4 ITV logos go round for over 10 minutes that's just hypnotic...

That was the point! They were designed to quieten children down so they would watch the programme.

11:11 onwards brings back lots of memories - nothing to worry about except homework and who’ll be playing out that evening 😂

Recall a joke someone else made about S4C's broadcast of ITV Schools of this type is that it gave the Engineer a smoke break!

That's hilarious! I love that! Either a smoke break or time to finish the daily newspaper crossword!!!

That's a longggg junction! The longest I ever saw live (also ITV on C4) was about 8/9 minutes, and that was pretty rare.

Often, here in Scotland, we would see the occasional long junction on ITV Schools on 4 during an opt out. The procedure was that as the network rotomotion device came on air, we would see an on screen glitch, and then it would be another rotomotion device, with the music at a different point, and the junction would, for us Scottish viewers, be about 9 minutes in total. The reason for a long junction, was to allow the programme to end at almost the same time as the networked programme, meaning less time between the opt out rotomotion device, and the network rotomotion device. Needless to say, the join between the end of the journey and the start wasn't as smooth as here!

their is a clip of a on screen glitch at 35.59 of ITV Schools on Channel 4 Northern Ireland rejoining the main ITV Schools service, I guess it was the same as ITV Schools on Channel 4 in Scotland i bet kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmXUn3x6qcx5gJI&ab_channel=jimmylecky

Did S4C not have a copy of the other schools interval track that was occasionally used I wonder?

The largest caption I've seen, said, "INSET: KEY STAGES 1-3 PROGRAMMES FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS follow shortly" in 1991. Sadly, I don't have it on tape, but they really crammed it in! To the point where the tail of the 'y' overlapped the border of the caption bar!
